Day Six

I woke up to realize that when we sailed on the Wonder in April, we had a day at sea after Castaway Cay but that on this voyage, we were beginning our final day at sea. So, we needed to cram in everything that we didn’t get to do on the first couple of days at sea!!!

I had perused our Navigator the night before and saw that some events were being repeated, such as the Art of Entertaining cooking demonstrations. There was too much to do on Sunday and Monday but I thought I might have time to attend one of those on this day. Also, we wanted to make a kite to fly on Castaway Cay and that was being done this morning.

We hadn’t gone to a sit-down breakfast yet on this cruise, so we got ready and went to Lumiere’s. Because we are slugs :crowded: , it took us a little longer to get there than we had anticipated so we ended up eating around 9am. On the way to breakfast, I noticed Steve (DH) was limping pretty badly. By the time we were eating breakfast, he was in a lot of pain and decided he better head to the Health Center when we were finished. Nonetheless, he enjoyed breakfast – the Eggs Benedict was very good as were the pastries. And, if I’m not mistaken, Isabel’s (DD4) doughnut looked like a glazed Krispy Kreme.

So, Steve headed off the doctor and Isabel & I went to kite making. We were late and I warned her that we might not be able to do it but we still had 20 minutes to color a kite in Animator’s Palate. One word of caution – the markers don’t dry on the plastic so be prepared to handle it with care for a while, even the next day on CC. It was fun for her and she was proud of her creation.

We didn’t have any idea how long it would take Steve to get his foot checked out so I had to scrap the idea of going to a cooking demonstration. We had missed the Character Autograph Sessions so far and there was one scheduled for 11:30 so we headed back to the room to drop off the kite and pick up the autograph book. Now, we haven’t taken Isabel to WDW yet but it seems like the characters are ubiquitous on the ship and that was thrilling for the little ones. We headed down the midship elevators and started down the hallway past the Atrium (where the event took place), trying to find the end of the line. We didn’t have to go as far as the Promenade Lounge but almost – and it was around 11:10. Isabel didn’t seem to mind, though. The line had just started to move when Steve found us – he was out of the Medical Center. It ended up that he had a stress fracture and they had taken x-rays and such but most importantly, they gave him a shot (probably a steroid of some sort) and the pain was much, much less. He didn’t even mind waiting in line with us at that point.

Soon, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Daisy were signing autographs and the line moved quickly. When we got to the table, “A Whole New World” was playing and Donald and Daisy did a dramatic interpretive dance to the tune. What a riot!

Isabel really wanted to go swimming, so Steve volunteered to take her and gave me some free time. By now, the cooking demos were over and there wasn’t really anything else I wanted to do so I went to the shops for a bit and wandered around. I ended up back in the Atrium and sat down to look at the Navigator again and suddenly, Lumiere’s was beckoning me to come have a nice, quiet sit-down lunch. So, I headed over to the steps and got seated at a table right by the door. Right behind me, another gentleman who was also eating alone, was seated at the table. We struck up a nice conversation – his wife just wanted to sit on the Promenade Deck and relax and his kids were having fun somewhere else so he decided to sit down to lunch, too. This was their family’s first cruise and he was from Minnesota so they were escaping cold weather as well. Lunch was yummy (I had melon and proscuitto for an appetizer and a chicken casserole thing for lunch that was out of this world!) and the company was very nice as well!

After lunch, I headed to the room, met up with the family and we headed to the matinee of “Disney Dreams”. Isabel remembered some of the show from our cruise in April and just loved the show. We sat in the front row and I was really afraid she would run up on stage a couple of times, especially when she was trying to pop bubbles during “Under the Sea”. But, luckily, she remained with us! The show was very enjoyable – I’m still impressed with the hydraulics and everything else they have in that theatre.

We got ready for semi-formal night, which basically for us meant Steve wearing his suit again and Isabel deciding which princess she wanted to be (we brought complete ensembles for Belle, Aurora, Minnie and Mulan – the latter of which she never wore because I tried to get her to wear it for “Small World” night but she had a meltdown. I tell you…these divas…grrrrrrrr….). We ate in Lumiere’s – we didn’t know where our table was because we had eaten at Palo the first time around the rotation but we quickly found our tablemates and had lobster for dinner. To be truthful, by the time lobster night comes, I’m not all that hungry but I managed to chow down all the lobster that was in front of me.

We thought about taking Isabel to the Oceaneer Club right after dinner but we took a long time to eat and she wanted to see “Disney Dreams” again so we just took our time after dinner and headed to the theatre again. The only difference is we sat in front of stage right this time – still in the front row, Isabel still popped bubbles, I was still afraid she’d storm the stage but she didn’t. This time around, we sat with our tablemates so Isabel got to sit next to Alyssa, her best friend for the cruise and that was fun for her.

I was tired after the show, even though we probably did less this day than any other. But once again, little Miss Energy wanted to go to the OC and play. So, we dropped her off and we decided to go watch “Walk the Plank” at Studio Sea. I think it might have been fun if you had 9 or 10-year-olds but we didn’t stay very long. We wandered around a little – I saw someone at the desk where they book return cruises and there didn’t seem to be anyone talking to her. I thought she looked lonely and I should be a good person and go talk to her, perhaps book a cruise or two to give her something to do but Steve didn’t share my compassionate enthusiasm (we are already booked on another cruise – the double Castaway Cay kind - for May 2006 which I had originally thought I would book while on this cruise but the price was starting to go up in December so I booked it before we sailed this time – I think all those 10-day Christmas cruisers booked while onboard or something). I headed back to the room and Steve picked up Isabel at the club. We watched TV for a while and I read through the next day’s Navigator before being rocked asleep.
