January 7, 2012-- 7 night Western on the Magic!

:welcome: everyone! Wow, I haven't had much time on the boards lately due to work, but its great to come back and see that our cruise is starting to gain more people! party:

I know the group seems to be mostly adults/young adults at this point, but is anyone interested in doing fish extenders??

Starseeker
My family and I. Are interested in joining the fish extender group, please let. Me know where we can sign up. Thanks in advance

158 days or 3792 hours or 227,520 minutes or 13,651,200 seconds . . . . however you count it - our cruise date is getting closer every moment. We're all very excited :)

We've started looking at port excursions and I was wondering, since I've noticed a few of you have been on this cruise before, if you have any suggestions? I've read a few of the reviews on the site but it hasn't helped me decide. I'm concerned about booking too much - too little - and so on. Do any of you veteran cruisers have advice for this first timer?

Thanks a bunch,
Steph

Ok....excellent question.

Best advice??

Have fun, take lot of pics and video:goodvibes.

ok.....seriously -

I hear ya about feeling concerned about if you feel that u are booking too much or too little.

If this helps, I take the whole day and ask myself, "What do I wanna do?" and take it from there.

Meaning, I take:

1) what to do while on the ship
2) what to do while on a shore excursion
3) what to do after I am back on the ship

then -

4) what to do in the evening.....

tie that all together &

viola!!

you have IMO the perfect DCL adventurepopcorn::.

NOW,
it could be as little as you want or as much as you want.

It's all up to you.

ME??

Well, I am on the go a lot and have a lot planned for this upcoming DCl cruise.:smickey:

Hope this helps.

OK - so what exactly a "FISH EXTENDER?"

Good Question. I feel that the best way to get a good idea what they are would be to do a search on Disboards.com & viola!!

up will pop up many a thread about the subject.

ANYWHO -

thought I would begin to compile a FE list (putting all info down on it isn't mandatory) and w/o further adieu:

Oke-dokey - Gotta run for now. I promise to update the list from time to time.

P.S. Ok......who wud like a DISmeets??? Give us a shout out via a posting please on when, where & what time. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's basically where - well ---- we all actually get together to talk for a bit ( like "putting a name to a face"). . So far we have for two inputs for the Promenade lounge on the afternoon of the embarkation day BUT we would also like to field more input from all of you to see if this is a do-able thing.

Also, since I am volunteering to put this together (unless Trekker objects), it would be nice if I can please receive some input from all of you as I am literally flying by the seat of my pants on what to do and how to coordinate this -as for all of you who have cruised b 4, you know just how intracite these FE's and or DISmeets can potentially get and well.....the last thing I wanna do is offend or upset anyone.
So, hope that prev paragraph makes sense as my intention is to just have some DISney fun on this adventure and enjoy heading out to Key West for the very first time (I am a Jimmy Buffett nut), etc.:goodvibes

AND......

Countin down the days.....including the # of days left until Dallas Texas SSTTOOPPSS having this heat wave!!

wE JJUUSTTTT may dip below 100 degrees.........next Tuesday for the VERY FIRST TIME in over 7 weeks!!:woohoo:

We were on this exact same cruise THIS year but I'm not the best person to ask as our one and only excursion (on Cozumel) was rained (stormed) out and everyone I talked to about their Cozumel excursions had horror stories to tell because of the weather.

For Key West and Grand Cayman we just walked around, had a snack at a local restaurant, did some shopping, and otherwise just enjoyed visiting a new location.

We also had a very unseasonably cold day at CC. I snorkeled with the rays at CC and would now like to try it at Grand Cayman (I wanted to on this trip but DW wasn't interested so I opted for a shorter swim at CC).

On this upcoming cruise DW has already stated she is going to visit 7 Mile Beach at Grand Cayman but I plan to go see the rays. We are going to hit our favorite Rum Bar in Key West. No plans yet for Cozumel. Not sure what DD and DS will do - thats up to them as they are old enough to be on their own.

On my one and only Disney cruise, we met at the Promenade Lounge about 2.30 or 3pm if memory serves. We introduced ourselves (screen name, real name, , where we were from and cabin number). Our coordinator handed out a list of everyone with their cabin numbers prior to the introductions so that if anyone had changed rooms corrections could be made. Also the same for the FE. It was interesting to see how several people quickly linked up to chat. I think we spent a grand total of 30-45 minutes and then everyone beat feet back to their rooms to prepare for the Muster drill.

The nice thing was that during the rest of the cruise we might recognize a face and reintroduce ourselves.

A bunch of us also linked up at the terminal prior to boarding. One of our members wore a distinctive hat to help people find her and then we all just hung out together until it was our turn to board.

Now that sounds like a good idea.:goodvibes

If anyone is interersted in meeting up also at the terminal prior to boarding, hey---why not post a repsonse.

Say, meet up at the HUGE Mickey Ears?? (where u walk thru to boad the ship).

Just thinking outloud here:).

On a different note, wish me luck everyone as I am in the process of crafting a "plea" ;) letter attentioned to Ms. White (first name Snow).

and deliver it to Guest Services on the day of embarkation.

WHY??

Well, during MNSSP last year, I had fun taking a slew of pictures w/my new camera (NOT A GOOD THING TO TAKE YOUR CAMERA ON DCA'S ROLLERCOASTER earlier in the year .....THAT"S WHY I HAVE A NEW CAMERA).

DOH!!

So, here I am takin allllllll these pics ; esp Ms White and 7 of her friends.............

So, later on in the early am the next day (after 3 hrs sleep), I awoke to say, "Hmmmmmm.....lets edit these pics."

NOT REALIZING THAT ON MY NEW CAMERA THERE IS A DICTINCT DIFFERENCE between delete pic and delete file.
:scared1::eek:

YUP!

I did the unthinkable. Pics w/Dr Facilie (hope I spelled his name right), Ms DeVille, etc......

ALL DELETED:headache:.

Got most of them back on a reshoot the next day but NOT MS White.

So I am out on a mission to get her and as many of the Princess' friends together for a quick pic or two.

So far, I have had a Goofy Fan letter and a Thank you letter make it up onto WDW's internal BB -

Hopefully three times will be a charm:goodvibes.

WISH me luckpopcorn::.

Gotta run 4 now.

HOPE U AND YOUR 401-K;) HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND:goodvibes.

I got the hot stone massage (I was signed up for a deep tissue but for some reason which I've forgotten they added upgraded to a complimentary hot stone). It was very nice. They escorted you to a changing room where you put on a terry-cloth robe and waited on some heated lounge chairs (similar to those in the Rainforest room) for a few minutes until it was time. Massage went like most other massages I've had. We were experiencing some high seas and the rocking motion of the ship caused me to fall asleep during the massage.

I did three tastings: one whiskey and two wine.

We went to guest services on boarding and they gave us a schedule of the tastings and let us sign up for them right then.

I signed up for a whiskey tasting the first night figuring if I liked it and the other tastings were different, I could one or two more. Turns out it was a typo and there was no whiskey tasting scheduled the first night so the bartender had to call several people until they could get it laid on. Two others who were also signed up for the tasting got tired of waiting and left, so it ended up being me and the moderator (or whatever he was called). We sampled 5 whiskeys, all of which I'd had before: Maker's Mark, Canadian Mist, Glenfiddich, Jack Daniels, and Dewars. I found out the other tastings used basically the same whiskeys, there being two others that they would rotate in (but only the one single malt). We did the usual look, smell, swirl, and sip. After we'd finished, the moderator asked which one I liked best and I chose the Glenfiddich (I like single malts) and poured another measure in my glass. The he started clearing up the glasses and asked if I'd like the Glenfiddich samples he had poured for the other two gentlemen who had left, which gave me a very healthy measure of single malt. I was feeling pretty good by the time I got back to the cabin.

We also did two wine tastings - the regular and the sommelier. The regular was with 5 wines (including a sparkling), and the second was only 4 wines but very high end. All of these wines are available at the bars and for dinner. In fact, we ordered a bottle from the regular tasting for dinner that night. We had the same sommelier for both tastings and covered much the same information and followed the same tasting routine, the only difference being the quality of the wines.

All three tastings took less than an hour. We do wine tastings quite a bit, and I've done several Scotch tastings, so much of the material covered we'd heard before, but it was still fun and relaxing. We'll probably do the wine tastings again, but I'm not sure about the whiskey tasting (it was well done but I wasn't overly fond of the selections).

Hi!
We are 'older' folks, cruising without children/grandchildren.
We are DVC Members using points for this/our 5th Disney Cruise.
Although we are veterans of other cruiselines, we enjoy Disney.
We haven't sailed the Western Itinerary in January and hope the weather will behave.

Hey, now worries cuz neither have I been on a Western cruise b 4 either.:goodvibes

Welcome aboard tho:yay:.

Hi KNEWTON64 - -
We HAVE been on the Western Caribbean Itinerary (NCL) but in Spring - not January!!!
I've read that it may be wet and cold?? - If so, we'll just enjoy the ship.........(Oh yes - and of course new sandals from KINOS in Key West (the best)......

Well, we are back from our Alaska cruise and are going through Disney service withdrawal :sad2::sad2: just not the same.

Anyways, here is my info for the FE group. We are looking forward to another cruise as we have not done the Western (but have done the Eastern)!

Hoping to connecting with you all in Port Canaveral or in the Promenade Lounge, or wherever......

Mike & Monica (adults), and DD: Kimberley 14
(The Moran Family) :dance3:

FE?? - I understand this is a DOOR DECORATION?? (New to me :lmao:)

We will not be decorating our door  but will enjoy seeing the decorations!
Have fun all you 'crafty' people!

We do put up a Cruise Critic sign with my Cruise Critic name (GOTTOCRUISE) when joining a ROLL CALL on Princess, NCL, HA ships.

I started a ROLL CALL for this on the Cruise Critic Board, but I see that a lot of Disney cruisers don't follow that board too closely.

Disney lovers are a special group unto themselves - I find the best Disney information on the DIS Discusion Forums

Anyone using DVC POINTS for this cruise?

Since things have changed since we last took a Disney Cruise - I would appreciate some information and input on the Travel insurance offered by DVC (TRAVEL-X) for my point reservation.

I was told they will charge by @Use Year points used??? not the amount of points used - just the USE YEAR???

We are using a few BANKED points, current USE YEAR points, and a very few BORROWED pts.

Seems like I would have to pay for 3 years @$79 per year pp. for the insurance ($237 X2= $474) way too high I think?

We would not travel out of the country without insurance - any suggestions on how to approach a $$ value to be able to insure with (another?) insurance
company other than Disney??

I appreciate help or suggestions from anyone who has recently cruised on points. :confused3

Thanks
