January 31, 2010 - Wonder 4 Day! Join the Fun!

so tomorrow is the big booking day. And I still don't know what to do! Anyone else going to try and book things tomorrow?

I had it written down on my calendar that today was the day, but I still forgot about it! Probably because we aren't booking a darn thing. Trying to do this thing as cost-efficient as possible, and am hoping/planning that the cruise and ship itself will be enough fun and entertainment without having to spend any extra! By the time we pay for gas/food for the trip down and back, tips, parking at the port, a little bit of spending money for souveniers and a virgin drink or two.... and we'll be over-budget!!

Hope y'all all have fun at Palo and your excursions, though!!

Lexi - can you tell me more about KSC? We are going the Sat before we cruise. Me, dh, ds7,ds4,dd3. Any do/don'ts to rec?
Well, yesterday may have been run slightly different than a day without a launch... Before yesterday, the last time I was there was so long ago... way before I had children, and before the heightened security, so I cannot even remember how things were. But being there on a launch day was quite hectic, as you can imagine.

I am sure you have all this, but here is the link to KSC:

And this is a list of what not to bring in:

(food/snacks are VERY expensive. hard sided coolers are not allowed, but on the launch day almost everyone, myself included, brought in a soft sided cooler bag full of snacks and drinks)

I would just plan to go early and check the daily schedule to see if and when they are running the guided tours, IMAX shows, astronaut encounters, etc... and plan your day around the events you think your kiddos can tolerate, since they are young. Being that you are going so close to a scheduled launch, some tours may or may not be available... so just keep checking the schedule and plan an itenerary that will work for the length of time you want to spend there.

We basically spent all day yesterday sitting in line and out on the causeway claiming our front row spot waiting for the launch... I plan on taking the kids back for a "regular" day soon.

I called our local congressman this week and I am waiting to hear back about tickets for KSC. I have no idea what tours or anything to do there.

This trip is going to sneak up super quick on us!!

myohmy - we are a quiet group!

Is anyone going to do Fish Extenders on this trip?

Myself, daughter and her friend will be joining you on the cruise. We look forward to our trip. We will be celebrating my daughter's 18th b-day.

While I like the idea of fish extenders, I don't think I'll be making one for the trip. I'm a college student and most of my time is spent in my studies.

I might bring stuff for the fish extenders though. ;)

I'm counting down the days right now till the cruise. I can't wait. Is there going to be a meet-up on board?

We are all so quiet on this board! I'm sure everyone is busy with the holidays but I am getting excited to finally let the cat out of the bag and give the kids their big surprise....this cruise!!! I have also been reading about the ship not being able to dock at Castaway Cay :beach: alot in January and I am starting to get nervous! Wishing all of you a safe & healthy holiday season!

Thatdoesn't sound good. Where did you read that. BTW we are getting excited as well.

About a month till we sail away. Hooray! :)

Are we going to be doing any kind of meet on the ship?

This will be our first cruise and I am so happy to have found this forum! We have 2 boys as well, 9 and 5. Our DS who is 9 has been to WDW twice and is so excited for the cruise. It sounds like he will have many other boys his age to make new friends with.

It will be so awesome if we were able to see the shuttle launch!

There was a shuttle launch scheduled for Feb 4. Unfortunately, according to the latest schedule, it appears to have been rescheduled to Feb 7. :sad1:

There is still an Atlas V launch scheduled for Feb 3 (our sea day). It doesn't have the glamor of a shuttle launch, but it would still be cool if we could see it.

The launch schedule is listed here: http://www.nasa.gov/missions/highlights/schedule.html

Happy New Year to all. We sail in a month!!! :thumbsup2

Seeing any kind of launch would be cool! I never even considered that might be an option!

Starting to think about what all to pack, and it's so hard to plan without having some idea of what kind of weather we might have! I sooooo don't want to have to pack for cool weather!

Got mine, too, and am slowly gathering stuff up to pack! Whoo-hoo!!

Please, oh please, oh please let there be WARM WEATHER for our cruise!!

Got my documents too! I really could use some warm weather, too. Though I guess anything over 35 degrees would be warm weather to us! Starting to think about what to pack and get a headache...guess I have alot to do :rotfl:
