we originally planned on going last month but Katrina made us reschedule to january. does anyone have feedback on crowds, weather, and any tips. would love to be able to do mount everest :earsboy:

i just bought myself a set of luggage yesterday for the trip. we were going to drive from new orleans, but now since we relocated to austin we are going to fly. we also have a home to stay at for the week two miles from disneyworld.

again, any information you can share would be helpful to us.

thank you

we went those dates in 2004 and the crowds were pretty light. The temps were great during the day. Jeans and a T shirt or shorts and a sweatshirt most days. Nights were pretty chilly but it only almost rained once.

We were there that same week in 2005, the 21st through the 28th. Our first and last two days were warmish, so we wore capris and short sleeves with light jackets. But, the in-between days, were cold! It went below freezing at night twice which is a major deal there. There were CM's everywhere at the AKL rushing around and covering the plants as the sun set. The days were brisk at about 50 and wind. But, the sun shone the whole time. The crowds were great. We were able to get right up front for all the parades without having to get there more than 15 or so minutes early. Most rides were walk-ons. Especially at EMH. We could easily get into restaurants that would normally be totally booked on a whim. It was a nice time to go. I know my kids would've enjoyed swimming if the weather had been warmer, but for the crowd-level and pretty weather, it was worth it!

We will be there the same time! We fly down on the 22nd and leave on the 29th. We're so excited!!!

I agree its the best time to go, we will be there January 21-28 (driving from KC, MO), and have been down there the same week for the past five years.

Lines are usually pretty short, we will usually arrive at the park around 11-Noon as we are late sleepers, and have very rarely had a long line. We also usually make very few AD's (we have one at California Grill for our anniversary and that's it) and if we want to eat at a popular restaurant we make a reservation the morning of, or day before, never had a problem. (we have walked into Whispering Canyon, Le Cellier, etc and never had an issue)

The weather is hit or miss, 2002 was VERY warm (highs in the mid-80's!) and last year was the coldest (lows near 38-39 degrees!) if you are driving thats good because then you can pack for all different weather options.

I usually will pack sweaters and sweatshirts, jeans, and one pair of shorts just in case it gets warm. Also I bring a jacket/coat just in case it does get cold.

The crowds are very light. You don't even need to use Fastpasses because you can pretty much walk right on everything! I'll be there the same week. The only thing is they tend to do a lot of refurbishing that time of year since the crowds are so light and the parades are much less frequent, so check the WDW calendar before you leave so you can plan accordingly. So far, the rehabs I know of that week are Splash Mt, Buzz Light year, and Test Track-unfortunately.

We will be there 20 - 28 @ OKW.

We LOVE this time of year...shhhh....don't tell anyone....okay?

Low crowds and short wait times. We are from MIchgian, so any weather is better than at home.

We found the same as far as clothes any combo of shorts, tees, jeans during the day.

My best tip for you is to pack those thin strechie gloves, a headband and a turtleneck (for under a sweatshirt) for the evening. These items take up very little room in the suitcase and is just enough to take the edge off to make a nippie night enjoyable. Besides WDW will charge you a bizzilion dollars for any of the above mentioned, of course it will have a mickey on it!!! :)

Have a great trip.

January has been a great time for us too, short lines, cooler weather (we're from Omaha in January, brrrrrr). We will be at AKL January 18-26.

We will also be there at this time (Jan 21st-28th). I know the weather can get cold...but, my opinion...I would rather be a little cold, then way too hot (as in July or August). We live in CT, so cold to us in January is 12* :sunny:

we have always gone in the early part of the year so I really have nothing to compare it to. BUT, the crowds are generally small. Lines are very short. Meal reservations are not usually 'Necessary' but still highly suggested.

We are from northern Ohio so it is very comfortable for us. One year we needed coats but usually just sweats for evening shows and we swim all hours of the day or night.

We can't imagine going any other time of year.

And we are leaving in 26 days.

We will be there the 21 - 28th too!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am starting to get really excited!!!!! This time next month I will be HOME. :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Any one want to do a happy dance.... It is almost time to go...... :rotfl:
