We booked this cruise as a back to back from the 4 day cruise on Jan 17! We saved so much with the Kids sail free that we had enough to book this 3 day and stay on the boat for 7 days!:banana::banana:

The 4 day cruise will be a Christmas present :santa: for our kids and we are not telling them about the 3 day until we get back on the boat!

We are going to Atlantis on our first stop in Nassau, but we don't know what we are going to do on this cruise. My DH and I are thinking about leaving the kids in the club and lab and doing the Segway excursion.

My kids are DS 9 and DD 6.

This will be our 4th and 5th cruise!

Tiffany

Hi Tiffany-

I'm finally going to get a chance to meet you and thank you personally for your great work.

Can we join to? I couldn't pass this one up with the kids sail free program. I had wanted to get one more cruise under my belt before our Baltic next year so that I could be platinum. The kids are out of school Friday, so they won't miss too much. I feel bad enough taking them out for a week before Thanksgiving break, but Florida resident rates were great for the week we are going in November. The boys don't know about the cruise yet. There will be 5 of us:

Myself
DH-Ray
DS 10-Michael
DS 8-Zachary
DS 5-Christopher

Wow! I can't believe that it is less than 3 months till the cruise. It's close enough to start getting excited now:cheer2: Anybody else out there starting to feel the excitement? The weather in Virgina is starting to turn colder and I am eargerly looking forward to the warm Bahama temperatures. I saw postings on some of the DIS boards about people being able to upgrade their cabins at the port. My DH and I will try to do this as long as it isn't too expensive. We booked the smallest room to save some of our DVC points but it would be great to have a larger room even just one category higher in order to get the split bath - we had that on the 7-night Western Carribean Cruise we took in January 2009 and it made getting ready in the mornings much easier. My DH and I will be celebrating our 3rd Anniversary :love2: and I am considering surprising him with a special couples spa treatment while we are on the cruise. Has anyone done a couples spa treatment before and can recommend something? Anyway, hope there are other exicted people out there looking forward to a magical time pixiedust: on the cruise like I am.

Hi... it varies by cruise and by availability, but a general rule-of-thumb is -- a port upgrade will cost $100/person, per category. Sometimes the rate is as low as $50/person, but I think that applies more to longer (7-day) cruises.

So, if you have a Cat 9 room for 2 people, and ask about upgrading to a Cat 6, you will likely be quoted $600 for the upgrade (2 people x 3 categories x $100). If you wanted to upgrade from a Cat 9 to a Cat 3 suite, it would be more like $1200.

If you're willing to spend the money, getting the upgrade is super-easy. First you check in as usual... then you go down to the far end of the counters to the Supervisor's Desk. Ask what upgrades are available, and you'll be given some choices. There is no pressure or anything, and there is no haggling.... just say "I'll take it" and plunk down your credit card, or say "no thanks" and walk away.

I will be checking for a port upgrade too... there are 3 of us, and we booked a Cat 12 room. The chances are good that we'll get an "automatic" free upgrade to a Cat 9... then at the port, I'll ask about going from a Cat 9 to a Cat 7... if I can get it for $300, I will probably do it. Personally, I won't pay more than $300 for an upgrade, for just a 3-nt cruise.

Thanks for the info. I'm not willing to pay more than a few hundred dollars for an upgrade either since it is only a 3-day cruise. Hopefully, the cost will match what I'm willing to pay.

Hi there... a recent thread on the DCL forum discussed the upgrade rates a little more. A person (KCashner) who knows better than I about the port upgrades, shares her rule-of-thumb here:

http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=34269994&postcount=5

It's a little different than what I thought...

Inside cabin to window--approximately $50 X number of days in the cruise
Window to balcony--approximately $50 X number of days in the cruise
Balcony to cat 4--approximately $100 X number of days in the cruise
Cat 4 to cat 3--approximately $100 X number of days in the cruise.
Cat 3 to cat 2--approximately $100 X number of days in the cruise
Cat 2 to cat 1--approximately $100 X number of days in the cruise

So, if you had a Cat 9 (window room) and were interested in upgrading to a balcony, a fair price would be around $150. If you had an inside room, the upgrade to a balcony would be $300 (inside to window, $150, plus window to balcony, $150 = $300).

We booked an inside room, and if this chart is accurate, I can get a port upgrade to a Cat 3 (1 BR suite) for "only" $900 more -- I just might do it!

We're sailing our first Disney Cruise on Jan 21st and can't wait. DH, DD (6), DS (almost 4) and me! See you then! Just read back on the posts and figured out what the FE stands for and we are totally in. We can't wait!

63 days from today.

Last January 2009 was our third cruise, and we had our first verandah room. On Nassau day, the weather was so nice and perfect, we pretty much just stayed on the beautiful verandah all day and watched the hustle/bustle of the port. It was a great day, and we knew we had the next day at Castaway Cay to enjoy the beach - right?

Wrong.. the next day a "nor'easter" hit.. the temps dropped 20 degrees and the winds were 30-35mph. The Wonder tried twice to dock at Castaway Cay, but the winds were too strong... and even if the Wonder HAD docked, Castaway Cay would've been miserable. We ended up spending a frigid day-at-sea. The temp was in the 50's, and with the windchill it was probably in the 30's. It was an awful day to be outside. To make matters "worse", we hadn't even left our room the day before, and got a little stir crazy being "stuck" on the boat.

That's a long-winded way of saying -- the lesson we learned was (for cruising in January), if the weather is nice, GO TO THE BEACH... because you're not guaranteed a nice day at Castaway Cay. So, on this cruise we will be going to Cabbage Beach on Nassau day, weather permitting.... "just in case".

Hey all fellow cruisers!!!

Me and DH will be joining you all onboard on the 21st! WAHOOOO!!!! Wondering if anyone would be interested in doing an adult FE gift exchange... I don't have kids, and if anyone else who is kid-less or going without kids wants to do it, let me know! If not, not biggie, I'll still be decorating my door!!!

I'm hoping for amazing weather, I must have been on the same cruise as one of the previous posts where in Jan of this year it was sooo crazy windy that we didn't even get to stop at Castaway Cay. Saddest day ever. :sad2:

Can't wait to see you all, and soo soo excited!!! BTW, have any of you looked at the pics for the new Dream. It has a water coaster on it, like at Typhoon Lagoon in WDW... AWESOME! :santa:
