January 21, 2010 - Wonder

LOL- yes I do looovvveee my disney soooo much!!! Everyone says you should really work there, but no I think that would ruin the magic for me! Its just a good thing I have a great husband who will wear my bright pink and purple princess backpack in the parks when I'm tired of wearing it!! :rotfl2: People always comment, hey nice backpack dude, and he's like yeah I know, I like it!

I'm glad you posted that it was your son who's birthday is coming up, I couldn't remember and thought I need to look thru the posts to see who's child it was having a birthday. If you wouldn't mind, can you send me his name in a PM, I'd like to include something in your FE gift (its almost same as something in the family gift but will be just for him for his bday) !

I love the disboards, they really do teach you so much about all you can get out of a cruise. And I love hearing people reactions as they pass your door when its all decorated! Last year we put up a dry erase board with daily trivia. Not too many people played, (we were at the end of the ship) but it was still fun!!! I can't wait to meet everyone and see their decorated doors !!! I've been on the disboards ALL day, and also working on my door decorations... I get quite obsessed with everything being perfect.

Any volunteers to make my actual FE though?? come on, you know you want to... AAHAHAHAHAHAH :lmao:

No kids for us either... but We are huge Disney fans as well. We make at least 4 trips from STL to WDW each year. We are DVC. DH is not a big cruiser (Chloe's Mom ;) ) But he is sucking it up for me.... We had terrible seas the last time and he did not do so well. I think there were over 25 foot waves... it even broke out one of the lower cabin windows (the big round ones:scared1: ). We had a Nav. Verandah last time but did not use it, so this time we are going with a Ocean view.

The last time we cruised was in 2004... it seems like forever ago!

Ok hawky,, not sure who has spent more time oneline today.. ME or YOU????

:lmao::rotfl2: TRUE that... I have been on here all day! My DH just got home from work, and he's like, still on the disboards I see... HAHA!

Okay we need to meet for drinks or something, since you guys dont have kids, and you have DVC ... I have lots and lots of q's for you!!!

But what do you mean it broke a window?? That FREAKS me out! I think Titanic when you say that... okay I swear I'm getting offline now...Even if for just an hour... hhehehahahaah

We got off the ship in Nassau, and I said "Wow, look at that plywood,,, that looks like crap.." It was the roughest seas the ship had ever seen and it was terrible. We went ahead and did our excursion to Atlantis.. we were both feeling kinda "green" from the night before. When we returned we both realized that something in the water had broken the window during the heavy seas that night, we had heard later that it had even flooded 2 of the state rooms before the got it patched.

We missed Dinner and the show. I had heard that food was falling off the tables. You could not walk down the hallways, you had to hold on. The closet doors were slamming open and closed with each wave.. and they wern't just front to back but side to side too! The automatic closet light was switching off and on.. it was like a bad, bad nightmare. The Castmembers were even sick. It was so funny..(or it is now ;) ) The closet light would be on, then off. then the curtians would swing so wide that they would let the ships lights in.. it gave everything an erie strobe effect. The noise of the ship creaking and all those doors slamming in unison was creepy!

I never posted anything about this because I knew it was very scary, BUT now the good news... I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYONE ELSE WITH A STORY LIKE THIS, SO IT MUST NOT HAPPEN VERY OFTEN. I THINK THIS WAS A ONE TIME EVENT. So don't flame me!

Holy smokes!!! Thats freaky!!!!!! We had a pretty rocky cruise on Carnival once, but NOTHING like that!!! That sounds really really scary!

When my DH and were on our 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise last January we had a similar experience except that it wasn't necessarily the rough seas every night but more the room we were in. We were in the very last room on our deck at the front of the ship and it was constantly in motion. I thought at first it would stop once the seas calmed down but it didn't. Let me tell you, it was very hard taking a shower with one hand clinging desperately to the shower hand rail. I had to get used to putting on makeup without poking my eyes out and balancing while drying my hair at the same time as well as sleeping in a bed that literally bobbed up and down all night long. Our bathroom door kept opening and slamming shut all night so we had to use a shoe to keep it propped open all night. I got so seasick after that first night I was very glad that I brought Dramamine with me to take. After taking that, I wasn't sick to my stomach anymore; however, I still had to deal with the constant motion in the room at all times. This time, we specifically asked for a room in the middle of the ship so we don't have to deal with that again. I feel sorry for the people who were in that room that the window got busted out and flooded. I hope Disney compensated them appropriately for their inconvience with having to move to a different room and any damage to personal items that occurred. Thanks for sharing the story. It doesn't scare me into not wanting a room with a porthole. I'm sure cruise windows hardly ever break even in the roughest seas.

Just like you, my DH has been telling me recently that I spend too much time on the disboards, but he thinks its great when I find information that is helpful to us. I just recently found information about getting a $50.00 discount on purchasing the Disney Photopass CD if you are a DVC member. We had already decided that we were going to purchase the Photopass CD since we plan on getting alot of photos taken of us during our 4 days (pre-cruise) in the parks. I'm constantly getting great information by simply reading postings on the disboards.

Meeting for drinks with another couple who doesn't have kids with them on the cruise sounds great, it's getting my DH to agree that might be a problem. Not that he is a "stick in the mud" by any means. He is great once you get him talking. I am always up for meeting new people though. I probably won't be able to get him to agree to the disboard group meet at 2:00 p.m. but maybe we can "run into each other" later the first evening. I know that we are planning to go Wavebands after our late dinner seating to watch the "Match Your Mate" game. We saw this show on our very first cruise and it was absolutely hillareous. You would be surprised what type of intimate (and funny ) information couples will reveal about themselves when they are on vacation and perhaps have had a few drinks . If you happen to go to this adult entertainment show look us up. We are both in our late 30s/early 40s. My DH is tall and has a military-style haircut even though he is not in the military. I am much shorter than he is and I have very long (waist lengh) reddish/brown hair. We would be happy to answer any questions you have about being a DVC member. This invitation is open to any of the other disboarders - just stop by and say HI! :)

We are cabbing over to Cabbage Beach on our Nassau day,it is just past Atlantis beach is awesome, locals are friendly. Cannot wait for the white sand and turquoise water:cool1::cool1::cool1:

you are? That is our plan too, if the weather is nice. We'll surely see you there. we went to Cabbage Beach on our last cruise (Sept 2009) and had an awesome time.

CC197823- Thats awesome that you and your brother and both families will be on the cruise...wish I could convince my siblings to go on one with us, they just don't get the love I have for Disney...Speaking of is you brother and his DF planning a Disney wedding.... if so I want to talk to them!!! We are planning a DCL vow renewal for May of 2011.... Its really just so I can have the MK park all to myself in the morning and stand there in a big pretty dress and get my picture taken... A girl just needs to be a princess sometimes, ya know?? :) LOL ahahahah, but I'm serious. I really want to see mainstreet with no one else there, thats worth it to me!!!

Hawky- My brother is prob more of a Disney freak then my mother or me but he would prob not admit it. He actually worked in Magic Kingdom years ago while he was still in college. (The free passes were nice) They are not planning a Disney Wedding but I believe they are considering a cruise for their honeymoon...My mother tried pushing a Disney Wedding but I think it was just too much $$. Good luck with your May 2011 vow renewal sounds like it will be a great experience.

I can't believe we are 10 days away....

We weren't planning any excusions but would love to hear more about this? What do you need to do to get there, how much is the taxi and what's there when we arrive?

Thanks pirate:

LOL- Okay first I have to say we've totally BEEN in one of those games before. In addition to be Disney lovers, we also LOOVVVEEE Sandals resorts! They are amazing, but anyways, this last year we went for our annual trip, and they were having a "lovers" game, like the newlywed game. Well they only pick 5 couples, so we went in and asked how many people are in the sign up for the drawing, it was around 50 couples. Ohhh we'll never get picked (as of COURSE, we never get picked for anything GOOD!) so we're sitting there with our new found friends and then all of a sudden I hear our names. I swear time stood still. I'm like ohhh crap we can't duck out, people know our names. So we played, we totally lost, which is quite embarassing since out of all the couples there, DH and I have been married the longest by far! (Most of them were on their honeymoon) But they were such random questions, like who would you like to have killed off/disappear in your family? Well what if there is more than one??? :rotfl2: Anyways, we were DYING laughing!!! I have a ton of videos, and luckily other people let out alot more embarrassing info than we did!!

Okay we will go to that, those are fun! My DH and I are almost the same height, around 5'10. I about an inch shorter. I've got mid back length dark brown hair, and bangs that go all the way across my face. I'll probably be wearing some sorta dress, nothing fancy, just like a short sleeve summer type dress. And I'll prob make him wear khakis and a polo!! :)

Thanks! We are actually doing it on the Disney Cruise, because they are sooooo much cheaper. I had always wanted a vow renewal at Disney, but knew we could never afford that, or even if we ever could, didn't know if I wanted to. Then I found out about the DCL weddings! If they would ever want something like that, let them know its much more affordable than a WDW wedding, and I'd be happy to answer the few questions I do know the answer to! :) Just in case that is an option.

Can't wait to meet you all next week!! OMG... NEXT WEEK!!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!

I don't think we will be able to meet for the 2:00 meet and greet but here is info about the kids:

We have twin boys (DS-12/DS-12). They just turned 12 on the 29th of December. They are in 6th grade and play football, basketball and summer swim team. Athletic, like Wii, DSi, just typical boys - not identical twins.

DD is 6. First grader. Loves dance and animals - Santa brought two kittens to our house for Christmas for her - Disney & Pixar. She is a very out going child and makes friends quickly.

We did a 7 day Disney Cruise in 2008 and all the kids had a blast - DD is looking forward to disney kid activities again. DS/DS are looking forward to a little more freedom.

HAALLLEEELLUUJJAAAHHHH from us too! Glad to see the heat wave coming! We're from Northeast Tennessee and it's downright COLD here. Normally it's 30-50 range in January, but it was 5 DEGREES here last night. Ugh....

We will try our best to meet you guys at 2:00 at secret deck 7 for a quick meet and greet. We plan on getting to port about noon or so, then eat lunch after boarding.

Let's all tell our kid's ages and a little bit about our family. Not a LONG story, but just a little so we'll already kinda know what our kid's interests are. My daughter is 6 and is an only child, so would love to have another little girl be her friend in the kids club so she isn't going it alone. She's not really shy.... but may feel intimidated if all the other kids all have siblings to hang with.

We were married 17 years before we had her, so she is our entire world. Hubby didn't want to go on this cruise really (he's kind of a home-body) but I really wanted to go so HERE WE ARE! lol.

I never got to go to Disney World as a kid, so I'm making up for lost time. We've been once a year for the last four years and now spreading our wings to the boat!

Anybody else with a daughter in the same age range?

thefyshes,
When you get off the ship in Nassau, head through the Welcome centre area, there will be alot of cabs there waiting, look for one going to Atlantis, when you get on tell the driver you want to go to Cabbage Beach and just stay on when everyone else gets off at Atlantis, it is about 1/2 mile past it.. It is beautiful there.
I think you can do a search on the boards about some info on it...
Can't wait:cool1::cool1::cool1::banana::banana::banana::banana:

Boy were you guys good sports. I tried to get my DH to sign up for the "Match Game" because the winners received great prizes, like spa treatments and free rentals on Castaway Cay but he was not to be convinced. Don't worry, we probably would have lost too if we had played. I would like to think I know my spouse pretty well but the questions are written in a way to ensure that not everybody matches answers - what would be the fun in that . Hope to see you at the game. My DH will most likely be dressed like yours - in khakis and a polo shirt. I will be in a skirt and dress blouse (the same stuff I wear to work each day). I only plan on really dressing up on the last night. I will be bringing a cocktail dress for that night. Honestly, I love dressing to the nines but my DH doesn't. It was like pulling teeth to get him to dress up fancy each night on our last cruise which was a 7-nighter. He said he didn't want to do that again so I compromised and got him to agree to one night of more dressy clothes.

I only became a huge Disney Fan a few years ago when my DH and I started taking our children to Disneyworld regularly. Now, I love everything Disney, especially Tinkerbell - she is my favorite. 17 months ago I got a 4 inch Tinkerbell tatoo on the lower half of my right leg - I love it!!!

Can't stand the excitement - the cruise is almost here :yay:.

thefyshes,

yes it's really easy... just go to the taxi stand and catch the next taxi to Atlantis. Tell the driver you want to go to Cabbage Beach. it's $4 per person each way. Don't worry about getting back -- the taxi drivers wait up on the hill, under the trees, so when you're ready to go back to the ship -- someone will be ready to take you.

After our September cruise, I posted a brief "panarama" video here: http://www.flickr.com/apps/video/st...s&photo_secret=dd4fd493fa&photo_id=4030762264 . It shows Cabbage Beach at about 10am in the morning... we were just about the first people there. It didn't get very much busier than this. You can see my son and wife already in the water... it was so warm, we stayed in all day long. My wife says she enjoyed it MORE than Disney's Castaway Cay (the water is clearer and the sand is nicer).

In the video, you'll see a glimpse of a staircase and some yellow buildings. That is the Sunrise Beach Club (http://www.sunrisebeachclub.com). They have a tiki bar (Archies) and a massage cabana right on the beach, and up the stairs they have a restaurant (Viola's). I didn't know these were there, so we didnt' have enough cash to partake... THIS time, I will bring some extra cash and the VISA, so we can get a massage and maybe eat at the restaurant (there are vendors selling coconut drinks and Cokes on the beach, but no one sells food).

This sounds like a great idea should the weather hold out (it's looking good as of today YIPPY). Thanks for the tidbits and the great video shot. I think I've heard enough people say they are going there and it's a simple adventure - we might head there too :)

Less than 3 more days until we leave for WDW!

Okay I will be sure to look for you guys. I prob could convince my hubby to do it, he doesn't really care, and neither of us get that embarrassed that easily...BUT with that being said, it is a little weird to be talking about your bedroom life to complete strangers, and a room full of them at that...maybe I'll drink this time...hahaha, we shall see. What kind of things do they ask on the DCL? At sandals there was, what's her bra size, what is he begging for in bedroom that u won't do? What is the item of clothing u hate seeing her wear, which family member would u get rid of...rate them in bedroom, multiple choice. I'll have to tell u guys that not on disboards, because we had predetermined a letter if there was a multiple choice. It turned out very embarassing!! Ummm, what would u change about your spouse. And a few others. Stuff u really never think about. Good memories though for sure!!!
Is itsad that this is what I'm spending my lunch break doing??? Lol

Melynn...where r u today??? :) darn mondays and work!!!

yeah the odds are the weather will be AWESOME (heck, it's the Bahamas). The thing I'm worried about is the water temps... after this big cold snap, the water might not even be back to 70 yet... brrrrrrrrrr  Might just spend the day soaking up some sun.

We'll look for you and the others (mickeyMick1967) at the beach on Friday (the 22nd!)

Hi, I am here now.. feeling kind of crappy. maybe like the start of the flu??? I work 10 hr days and I did have a chance to check in once today. My work is very Hectic. I am leaving for WDW (orlando) on Thrusday so I have tons to do! LOL.

So tell me what you know about the Hilton day pass? I did a bit of searching and that sounds like what we will do. Can we walk to that??? it looks close on google earth???:hippie:

Editing to add that I have had my H1N1 shot, so don't worry, It's not that! LOL
