January 2022 Trip Reports

Amcc,
Sorry to hear that. Hope you guys are feeling better soon and things work out for another family trip with those adorable littles!

And unless you had 42 of your closest friends with you and an acoustic guitar at your jam site/camp kitchen site, I believe we can safely rule you out.

I like to give the 1500 loop a hard time, but when it comes down to it, I got nothing but love for that loop! In fact, I will golf cart that loop no less than 10 times a day….slowly….like a stalker….but a friendly one. Just to see everyone’s tent camp and how they do things.

Jim,
Thanks for the movie times!

It’s too bad things have changed a great deal since our last trip. I peeked in on the park ticket thing last night and got slightly informed about the Disney Genie and paying extra for attractions and up at 7 am to try to make those on the same day?!?!? What is all this? It sounds crazy! That doesn’t sound magical, it sounds insane. I’ll be done looking into that park ticket madness…..for now.

The whole Genie+ and park reservation thing is crazy at first. From what I've been reading, Genie+/paid FP seems to be the most beneficial at MK during slower times. During busy times, like the last 2 weeks, it is frustrating to spend $15/per person just to have the available slots for the rides you want gone by mid-morning. Then the "individual paid FP", not included in Genie+ seems like even more of a money grab. I have 10 day tickets and will be hitting all the parks at least twice. I'll see how the 1st park visit goes and decide what I'll do on the following days.

@Teamubr when are you starting your drive Friday after work or Sat? I am going to work on more packing today. the forecast is not changing but saw a potential for rain early on Friday morning (when i am standing around outside) so i need to remember to grab throw away ponchos. The temp will be 60 so not a big deal and it could change still. I basically sweat the weather the entire time until the race. If the weather is good for standing around the 2 hours before the start then it is NOT good for the race. I think Friday will be pretty good for me 60 and i should finish in an hour so 60 waiting, 60 at start and 60 at finish.

Surprise indeed.

That's great Boomer. I added you to the 1st post and also added site numbers for those posting them on this thread. I'll update the list as people arrive and let us know where they are. If you don't want you site posted, let me know or don't added it to the thread.

Was 1700 loop your choice or where they assigned you? I'm still deciding what loop to shoot for. I was considering 1800 since FtW Mike was there, but he is leaving early, before we get there now. I'll probably do what I normally do, get there mid morning and see what is available that is long enough and go from there.

We request the 1700 loop. We find it the perfect balance between quiet enough and close enough to the bus stop, road and Meadow.

The plan is to leave after work on Friday and drive to Clarksville, TN. There is a Sam's and Cracker Barrel we can stop at overnight. We are forecast to get a little snow Thursday morning and Clarksville is forecast to get 1-3 inches Thursday morning. That isn't much and it is 36 hours before we will be coming through, so hopefully roads will be good by then. I'm going to keep an eye on the DOT sites Friday though. We may wait to leave until very early Saturday. We have a stop booked through Boondocker's Welcome at a farm outside Gainesville Saturday night. That makes for a 13-14 hour drive from home on Saturday if we wait to leave.

I found a Race Tracker online for the events this weekend. Let me know your and Bert's bib numbers and I'll follow along.

that is the race tracker. You can put in Garnes you will see all three since i am running two races. I keep hawking the weather. It is not changing much which i will take. It has been a lot worse but i do keep waiting for the shoe to drop. However it has not changed much in the last two weeks. I am excited about going and now i am sad i am not going to be at the fort, but after what happened in Dec with everything i am just like its all good. Plus we need to get the RV out we have not had it out since Sep. I am also worried about the AC and lots of other things on it. That is the reason i am glad i am not taking it to Disney. i don't need that kind of stress right now.

That storm is supposed to roll this way after. Keeping an eye on it, DW may work from home on Friday depending on how the storm tracks.

Just come over to the Fort on Sunday after you have recovered a bit and you can hangout with us. That's almost the same. We'll go looping and find Melissa and Boomer.

So Bert and I are kind of messed up and not covid like. We are not sick. It is just from the three weeks of travel, all the time off work, irregular sleeping patterns, and ALL the food. I was hoping to sleep good last night thinking it might be the last night for good sleep (i have a chance tonight but afraid excitement would keep me from sleeping). Then it is race days and i am expecting to be up at 2:30 am.

Kris - Hope you feel better and get some rest. I know, its easier said than done.

Well morning chores found us with a sick sheep. They are my daughter's pride and joy; those sheep. She's been crying in the barn all morning. I thought it was bloat at first, but now not sure.

My day has moved from for loading the camper to desperately trying to locate our vet and get him here asap. Nothing else matters right now but the health of those sheep and the mental health of my kid. If this sheep goes down, I don't know if we will be leaving out this evening or not. Ugh!

Oh no good luck with the sheep. i know how bad that feels when the fury kids are sick. Hope the vet comes soon.

Farm life. Sorry to hear about the sheep. I hope it doesn't impact your trip, but home and family come first.

Kris,

Sleep is over rated. :) I normally sleep fine, but crazy times at work and trying to get a month of work done in a week has me waking up in the middle of the night and then can't go back to sleep. I don't have to run a marathon, although I do have to drive the coach 1000 miles. I still can't get Donna to consider it. Ian is willing, but mom says H### NO!

Hopefully see you both in a few days.

I am trying to work, gather the stuff for packing, do laundry and clean all at one time. I did manage to wash the sheets and remake the bed. I ran and picked up a few gels i needed for the race (multitasking at its best, i ran to the running store to buy my gels :)). Still stalking the weather. Temps basically holding.

My father in law told me when I brought those two bottle baby sheep home a year ago for my daughter that they were good for two things; their wool & just trying to die. Well he was right. We did everything we could and had her on antibiotics and pain meds by mid-morning.

I hate to bring sadness to a trip report so I leave it at that. Wish I never mentioned it in the first place.

A farm life is the best life for a kid, the good and bad. You learn a lot.

Good news - Shepard was trained to be a companion dog and she is fully serving that purpose right now.

We didn't get anything done towards the trip today, obviously.

Going to try to refigure plans here and see what tomorrow brings. Hope to leave tomorrow.

Well it is all done, or as done as it will be. the condo is generally clean, would like a little better but it will do. Laundry has been done. We are packed up, all in one huge bag with too many shoes for a 4 day trip.

hoping for some good sleep tonight because it’s my last chance. the A+ goal is to be leaving at 7 am. The realistic goal is 8 am. We are planning to stop for lunch to give ourselves a break. I have to stop at the expo tomorrow before it closes at 6.

Expo closes at 8pm Eastern, @garneska, but don't take my word for it - you can double check me on the rundisney website.

But yeah you need to get checked in, get your bib number for the 10k (and for you and DH for the weekend races). And try to get a couple hours sleep before you have to wake up for the bus to Epcot on Fri morning. DD wants to do the 10k race in the future and I don't think she understands (although I've 'splained it) what it's like to wake up at 230am to get out of the Fort by 3am to get to the Epcot parking lot by 330am to get into your start corrals by 430am before the Elite Runners bang off at 5am.

Try to get some rest, ya'll.

Ed

I am sure you told her and she was probably paying attention but has no idea how difficult it really is. The first time I did Goofy, no problem for the half but waking up for the full i was like are you serious! It’s the main reason I don’t want to do Dopey, 4 mornings in a row sucks and I don’t nap so it sucks.
