January 2022 Trip Reports

Enjoy the drive. :sad2:

Glad you got better sleep. A dusting of snow just south of me (at work now with barely anything on the grass.) I'll be checking out further south later today.

I'm going to flip the coach around in the driveway and hook up the trailer this evening. I put freezer food out yesterday. The refrigerator side had warmed up to 26 last night, from 22. I'll start running the furnace tomorrow afternoon and put everything else out that can't freeze.

Safe travels Kris & Jim.

The generator had a leak. Nothing like small engine repair with a spotlight in the dark. Thanks, hubby!

The golf cart is frozen and I do mean frozen.

The fuel throttle is also frozen on the truck.

The air hurts my face. It’s cold.

Its ok though, cause at some point today we will be south bound! And I’m not counting on anyone tossing us pixie dust, I’m just going to make happen myself.

Safe travels Melissa. Stay warm. The good news is you're only a days drive away from warm weather.

We were, but since we were not in a hurry and I wanted time out of the car we stopped for lunch at Cracker Barrel in Lake City. We are back at it though should get to the expo around 3.

My back and knee were very happy for the stop.

We made it at 2:50. Went to the expo first. Got shirts and bibs no purchases. Most stuff was gone. Next stop was the swan. The room is spacious we have a tiny balcony. Will be nice for coffee and wine.

Going to unpack as I need to get all the crap out and organize, then check the weather.

Wow, watching the Weather Channel and Kentucky is a mess, as is Nashville. Highways all messed up, apparently no one paid attention to Mondays fiasco in Virginia.
It will be getting here in a couple hours, see what we get overnight.

I've been watching the TN DOT cameras all day. I-24 until almost Nashville had snow, but was doing OK. Once you get to Manchester (before Monteagle) the roads were just wet and all the cameras up and down the mountain looked good all day. I suspect things will be fine by tomorrow afternoon before Nashville. It's probably good I won't be coming through Nashville until Saturday morning. The I-24/I-40 area was a disaster earlier and there looked to be a wreck that had I-24 closed just south of Nashville. Gotta love the first snow of the season.

We got on the road about an hour ago!

It was less than two weeks ago that we had no plans nor reservations set for Disney (discussed but tabled weeks back) and here we are 11 days later on the road headed half way across the country leaving the frozen tundra behind. Hubby and I have been non stop for days on end getting things ready to go. I’m exhausted!

Because of the weather south of us, we are going to try a new route. We are going down through Memphis and then over Birmingham then Montgomery and then Tallahassee and then Orlando. Making a public relations stop along the way. If I have to go to FL, then we all be going to Disney! Well at least to Fort Wilderness!

Three sleeps till the Fort!

I have driven the Bham-Mont-Tall-Orl route many, many times with the family. Gas is cheaper in Alabama than Florida as fyi. There is a Flying J I stop in Dothan along Hwy 231 that's a favorite. Avoid buying gas in Lake City, FL as it is really high even by FL standards.

We know every McDonalds, Burger King, gas station, and Wal-Mart along that route. There's usually a story associated with each one.

Drive carefully and keep us updated.

Yay Melissa. Glad you got on the road. Hope to see you Sunday. We are planning on hanging out with Jim after the race.

Wishing everyone safe travels. We are about 2 weeks out still .

We did the online checkin, and I am a bit concerned that there was no where to note they we had our dogs coming along . This is a new one , I always remember inputing that info somewhere ? Wondering if I should call , or fax something with requests. We already have Preferred booked, but hoping for the 300 loop , specifically the outer part of 300 close to the dog park .
Hmmm , not sure what to do .

Glad you made it out of central IL.

Check Google or Wayz. Not sure where you are stopping for the night, but it looks like I-55 is closed in the boot heel from I-57 to almost the Arkansas border.

All 3 of the "!" are road closures due to wrecks.

We are sadly leaving today after twelve days here at Disney. Going through Alabama, as we like the drive, even though a bit longer. We had a wonderful time, and now, ugh, taking humid clothes back to the frozen tundra. Then the memories will keep is going and coming back. Safe travels to everyone.

One race done. This was the easy one. Ran with a friend from run Disney boards. We talked the whole time which was good we stayed slow. 66:10. The good thing is everything is holding up well. I did forget that the standing around for 1.5 hours before you start makes you tired. Need to sit on Sunday morning.

After dinner another walk around the boardwalk. Stopped at the bakery for dessert. Got a 50th anniversary cupcake, I forgot a pic. It was good.

Next is breakfast I have a ressie for 10 am and it’s only 7:15. Think I am going to scope out for something earlier. Also toying with a nap.

Safe travels barb, Melissa and Jim

Spoke with my mom this morning. She lives in Monteagle (TN).. she said it was 12 degrees and icy.. no snow but ice on the mountain is much worse... Hopefully it melts off before you make the climb and descent.. Saturday sometime??

Congrats Kris,

Today was the warm up. Glad the body parts held up. Dinner looked delicious.

Thank you! I was watching the TN DOT traffic cameras all day yesterday and the ones on the mountain looked pretty good. We will be coming through there tomorrow morning, so everything should be good. Saturday forecast was for things to be above freezing.
