January 2020 Discounts

I am beginning to agree with you- although they still seem focused on trying to get people there in the fall! but the discounts have never been this late- i dont think it is a good signšŸ˜ž
Never been this late?? They used to ALWAYS be this late lol. From my comment on page 1 of this very thread:

Here's a list of historical release dates for Stay Play Dine and room only discounts typically covering Jan/Feb dates:

2019 Travel - released 9/26/18 VISA, released 9/26/18 PUBLIC *(no early Visa release although there were add’l discounts for Visa cardholders)
2018 Travel - released 10/3/17 VISA, released 10/3/17 PUBLIC *(no early Visa release although there were add'l discounts for Visa cardholders)
2017 Travel - released 9/28/16 VISA, released 9/30/16 PUBLIC
2016 Travel - released 9/24/15 VISA, released 9/28/15 PUBLIC
2015 Travel - released 10/6/14 VISA, released 10/9/14 PUBLIC
2014 Travel - released 10/3/13 VISA, released 10/7/13 PUBLIC
2013 Travel - released 10/4/12 VISA, released 10/10/12 PUBLIC

There is no reason to fret or panic everybody... I have full confidence that discounts are coming.
We just need to be patient - perhaps they wanted to give the Riviera discount a chance to ā€œfly aloneā€ first. With that resort just opening up in Dec I’m sure they’re trying to fill rooms there. Plus they’re probably hoping people will stay there and then buy into DVC.

I have it on a good source that they have prepared the winter discounts and that they are similar to last year’s. So they didn’t release this week...a small delay...but they will be coming. Don’t feed into the trolls and negativity that pops up from time to time here in the thread. It happens every year and those people get their jollies off of stirring up stressed out people looking to book Disney. That does you no good and does not contribute to the excitement of planning a Disney trip.

Aren't discounts applied to booked stays retroactively? I know it is nice to know for sure, but just decide where you want to stay, assume a discount is coming and make the reservation. If it doesn't cancel the reservation and let them know why.

THIS!!! They have later release dates with a higher % off than some of their earlier release dates throughout the years. I am remaining hopeful. In the interim, I am getting exhausted waking up in the middle of every night over the past week checking. Hurry up please and get them out!!!

Totally unrelated to your post BUT I live about 20 minutes from South Fayette and have nephews that graduated from there. Please nobody yell at me for going off topic and sharing. :flower1:

I wonder if all the people with booked rooms they and waiting for a discount realize that if Disney has lots of booked rooms, they don't NEED to offer a discount. Could actually be shooting yourself in the foot. LOL

Perhaps, based on the calendar, we’ll see a similar release date as 2013, which was 10/4/12, also a Friday?

I'll also add that this is a good time to figure out your alternate plan. When discounts finally come:
  • What it your preferred resort doesn't have availability for your dates?
  • What if you have to upgrade significantly in room category to find availability significantly eroding your savings?
  • Know your budget and using the prior year data, come up with scenarios that work for you.
If you enjoy planning, embrace the what-ifs of waiting and have a bunch of different ideas that work. And encourage others on the thread to remain patient and know that whatever happens, there will be some room that should fit their budget (even if it's off-site). If you don't enjoy the planning then maybe "alternate scenarios" isn't for you since it may only add to the stress though, lol!

I also will acknowledge that it's easy for me to say this since we're operating on a deluxe budget and regardless of what we book I'll be able to cover it fully through various credit card rewards (I'm one of those crazy Credit Card churner people, lol). For those of you in a tighter budget situation, I do feel for the stress this places on your family vacation. Being less than 4 months out and still not sure exactly how it will all come together has to weigh on you.

I would say based on those historical dates, if there is nothing out Monday, then there will not be a general winter/spring promotion. So one way or another everyone will be able to plan accordingly on Monday. And it is possible that WDW is avoiding the guest dropoff that DL is experiencing. They only need to offer discounts if they have empty rooms.

I have family that just returned from Disney last week and they experienced very low crowds while they were there. They didn't go for the new Star Wars park but they said there was hardly ever a long wait for the Millennium Falcon ride and Hollywood Studios in general was not crowded. Their travel agent said to them that Disney is having a difficult time filling rooms/resorts, that has me thinking that they'll continue to release discounts...We have reservations the last week of January, I'm holding onto hope :) ..they have been released as late as 10/6-10/10 in the past!
All we can do is hope - its hard!

I don't know if Monday is a deadline or not. However I think its fair to wonder if the reports of low crowds at SWGE and resort-wide are somewhat overblown. Sure, it's not overflowing, but maybe there are plenty of people at the resorts and in the gates to keep profits at an acceptable level. All these recent price hikes and upcharge opportunities are not for nothing! Disney looks at resorts being filled for marathon weekend and MLK weekend, then considers the typical highlights of February and March. I doubt there is a panic or mandate from on high to slash rates to fill rooms and draw people.

So I just checked - cause I'm just a sad person who wants a discount!!

They added a new deal - its for Auluni Resort in Winter - from Jan 5 - Feb 29.

The way I see it - a deal (any deal) DID come out! And they updated it now?! Not at 7am.. So of course that means I'll be checking more often during the day. But my hope has re-ignited! :flower1:

I've seen people theorize this way before...that booking in advance kills the potential for discounts. I can see this angle, but there's also the logic in having something booked within your budget in advance, especially if you're going at a time when you know rooms will be in greater demand and you're unable to reschedule your trip. As for the need, after watching all of this for the last 10 or so years since we started staying onsite, I've noticed that the "need" comes down to what's less likely to be booked. Rack rate standard rooms tend to be booked more than upgraded rooms, so the discount need will usually be for the upgraded rooms. Certain resorts also are more popular or have more space to fill. While it's not always my first choice, AKL always seems to have all sorts of rooms available when discounts come out just due to size and location preferences of visitors. So, I don't think there's really all that much harm in booking ahead of discounts if you know you're going to go.

As a TA and recent DVC owner, I've seen the heavy push for Riviera. I definitely agree with the above comment :smooth:

I am staying optimistic and going by what @SouthFayetteFan wrote. This is about having fun and enjoying ourselves, not stressing out over what may or may not happen. Do I want the discount? Heck yeah! But, I am going to enjoy my trip either way. Hakuna Matata!
I agree with you! My trip is already paid! Jan 24th to Feb 3rd! I have been paying USD 500,00 every single month since booked at fisrt day the the reservation for 2020 became avaliable.

If Disney offers a discount for Dinning Plan (Like Stay Play Dine), will book diining plan. If not, i will book anyway! hhahahaah! I always do my Disney Budget Plan like there will be no discounts. If some appear, GREAT. If not, just keep my budget plan!

For this one, if I wont get Stay Play Dine, I wont rent a car. If I get it and save some money, I will rent a car, or maybe buy more souveniers :)

we are booked for April at Pop. pretty much locked in by my DGDs school vacation week (its 9 days after Easter). Cheer competition for part of the week: ASSP is sold out, only preferred at Music and Movies. Movies generally does not get any discounts. I booked standard at POP to be sure we had a room (s). prepared to upgrade to Preferred at POP if a discount comes out. We are going discount or not, it's my retirement trip and I promised the grands.

I have been hanging around the DIS for 10 years and I have a hard time remembering a time other than major holidays when there was not some kind of discount, even a small one. Someone correct me if I am wrong on that.
