January 2020 Discounts

We are looking at staying the first week of Jan in 2020. In previous years, they started % off resort discounts in early Jan.

The last two years the discounts started on Jan 1.
Three years ago the discount started on Jan 2.
In 2015, it started on Jan 5 (the 5th was a Monday).

I'm trying to figure out if they will start them in 2020 on Jan 1, or will they wait until the Monday which is Jan 6. 2014 had the same calendar, but I can't find when discounts started in 2014 anywhere!

Anyone know what they did in 2014?

I hope that you have found your answer now that 2020 packages are available. Just in case, my look at rate calendars found that Jan 2, 2020, the prices drop from their Christmas/New Year's highs.

If you're looking for a room in January, value stay, is it smart to book now? Can you apply any discounts after if they come out with one or would you have to start over and lose reservation? Thank you!

If you are going to go for sure then you should book the room. The resorts might sell out before a discount comes out. If your stay depends on a discount then you should wait. If a lot of rooms get booked then there won't be a discount but if you don't book the room the resort may sell out. It's kind of a double edged sword.

For those that will find this of interest:

Here's a list of historical release dates for Stay Play Dine and room only discounts typically covering Jan/Feb dates:

2019 Travel - released 9/26/18 VISA, released 9/26/18 PUBLIC *(no early Visa release although there were add’l discounts for Visa cardholders)
2018 Travel - released 10/3/17 VISA, released 10/3/17 PUBLIC *(no early Visa release although there were add'l discounts for Visa cardholders)
    2017 Travel - released 9/28/16 VISA, released 9/30/16 PUBLIC
    2016 Travel - released 9/24/15 VISA, released 9/28/15 PUBLIC
    2015 Travel - released 10/6/14 VISA, released 10/9/14 PUBLIC
    2014 Travel - released 10/3/13 VISA, released 10/7/13 PUBLIC
    2013 Travel - released 10/4/12 VISA, released 10/10/12 PUBLIC

And just to add info here for those that stumble across this post, 2011 & 2012 were the last 2 years where Free Dining was offered during Jan/Feb/Mar. For 2013 and onward it's been Stay, Play & Dine. There's been rumors EVERY year since then that free dining is coming, and then it ends up being StayPlayDine so if you hear that rumor again, take it with a grain of salt.

Also if you want to know more about how the SPD deal has worked in the past and how to calculate what your savings might be check this out: https://www.disboards.com/threads/stay-play-dine-2019-calculation-thread.3708403/ (there are also threads for '15, '16, ‘17 and '18 linked in the first comment on the 2018 thread)

Following- Just started talking about a January trip.😳 Time to start looking at these boards on a daily basis again. I’ve been on hiatus for the past year and a half.

We are going at the end of Jan, so hoping the trend continues for discounts being announced in late Sept, although not holding my breath given that SWGE will be very new at this time.

All signed up for January and usually start looking for discounts around September. Glad to see this thread.

Definitely following. I have ASM booked for Jan 28-Feb 4th. A discount would really help. Thank you so much for this thread!

I am hoping room discounts appear for February. $1050 for 5 nights value resort seems high.
Me too! I just looked at February 2-7, which I thought was a slower time, and don’t see availability at any values on WDW site. Will keep checking!

I am an AP and now a proud Disney VISA holder. However, going down early September and wondering if there would be a bounceback offer for January while I'm there in September??
