My apologies if this is a dumb question, but do we have to make our resort/park reservations before we make dining reservations? I'm waiting on the FD schedule for next Spring before booking our trip, but was wondering if I would be able to book ADR as soon as the 180 day mark hits (without making any other plans)?

Yes you can make dining reservations without having a resort reservation. However you can only make those reservations 180 days out, the benefit to having a resort reservation is that you can book all your diding for your length of stay on the 180 day mark from your 1st day. So for your 5th day you are actually making that reservation 185 days in advance. Since I did not make a resort reservation, I have been logging on every day and making my reservations as the 180 mark comes up for each of my days. There is still plenty of availabliluty this way. I couldn't get the T-Rex at 7pm like I had wanted but got it for 6:00 instead, and for Whispering Canyon I had wanted 7:30 but had to take 7:50. I was able to get everything else for the times I wanted so far.

I booked mine as soon as the 180 day mark hit I have no reservations at this point in time but I wanted to eat at the places that were important to my family so I booked as soon as I could... U don't have to have anything booked at Disney to make dinning reservations. I am all about booking early to get what I want, worst case I cancel, no harm, no foul

Yay! Did you have any trouble getting the times and places you wanted? I'm tempted to make a room only reservation tonight so I can just make all my ADR's tomorrow morning. Then just add free dining if/when it's announced.

You know you can make your ADR's without a reservation, so long as you're within 180 days. The only advantage a reservation gives you is that you can book 10 days plus 180. In january, that really doesn't matter very much. Just make each days ADRs at the 180 mark and you're golden.

Got everything I wanted at the times I wanted BUT I have three small kids so we eat breakfast as soon as possible, lunch at like 11:30 and dinner at 4 PM.

I am a little OCD and like to try to plan our dinner reservations based on which park we may be in for EMH. I tried to look but there is so much information but I couldn't locate anything. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your check-in date must fall within the dates for any special offer, not your check out dates. So in your case 12/31 must not be blacked out. Unfortunately, that date is very unlikely to see any kind of discount offered.

I'm not sure but I had the same problem when booking a F! dining package. Totally greyed out--but I called and had no problem booking it. I'd call and see if the cm can just do it for you. Good luck!

Oh! Good to know! I should call, because I do want a F! package & have been disappointed to see nothing open for January yet!

We are going Jan 5-11, I have a LM room at AoA booked for my MIL and a Nemo family suite for us. I am hoping we'll get a good deal soon, otherwise we may decide to stay off property for the first time to save money.

OK, Disney! It's August! Put us out of our misery! Also, Spirit air flights are dirt cheap for my travel dates (I have some different ones so I can flexible) so I REALLYwant to know if FD is happening or if I am renting a DVC! Waiting is making me loony!

If you've never flown Spirit before, think twice before booking. They are one of the worst airlines out there right now. Check their baggage fees very closely. Everyone I know who tries Spirit says they will never do it again.

i fly Spirit a few times a year. They don't thrill me but are 15 minutes from my home and I check most of the airlines once a day or so when looking for fares and Spirit is always cheaper even with all the fees.

Uhh... It's getting close can't wait!!
I know that when/if January discounts come out, I will be able to read about it here very quickly after they are released! But where do I check it? Just on disneyworld.com or is there a email list or something??
