January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

Hi we are DVC members and we try to do two trips a year. September we go the third week with the kids and sometimes family member go. In January just my DH and I go for parents only trip. We are going in Jan. 2010 hopefully staying at AKV arriving on the 10th and checking out on the 14th and then moving to Pop on the 14th and checking out on the 16th.

WELCOME to the Snowbirds! :goodvibes

Hi everyone!

I was excited to find this thread! I have been looking all over for some info on going in January.

We went on our first trip last year in Sept during free dining and were hoping to go back again this Sept but it did not work out so we are considering going in Jan - sometime around the 15th.

It is driving me nuts to not be able to see pricing or anything for that time yet! I called thinking that they can give me some info on the phone but the CM said not until July.

So, planning is on hold for now I guess and it looks like Oct will be the month with getting park hours, making ADR's and we have to book our flights by mid Oct (we have airline credit we have to use before then).

Can you guys give me the scoop on going in January? How's the weather? We were there in late Sept during free dining and while I don't have anything to compare it too I thought it was crowded but not too terrible but it definitely was HOT. We live in northeast Ohio so I'm thinking that whether it is 50, 60 or 70 degrees it is going to feel great to us because it will probably be 20 here!

I'll be following the thread! :)

WELCOME to the group!

Well all I can say is that January weather is very unpredictable. We were there this year and some days the high was only 50 and other days it was in the low 80's. So pack a little bit of everything! We live near Pittsburgh, so the cold days didn't bother us much, but I was happy that we had some days warm enough to swim!

Yes, all this waiting until October for everything is a killer!! :upsidedow

If the package pricing comes out in July, that will be awesome. I've always thought, and been told they don't come out until August.

I didn't even think to look when our 90 day out mark was until I read your post. I only have 214 days until the day I make them. Luckily, my day is on a Saturday, so the boys don't have to miss a day of school.

We will be calling to make our ADR's from Hawaii:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Our 90 day mark is the first week of October and that is where we will be!!!

I love CBR will be my favorite hotel too! January 2010 here we come!

We'll be at AKL for the Marathon.... See you then!

Afternoon Snowbirds!

I was wondering if anyone has seen this thread about preordering the Photopass.

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2180484

It's about the code sent out to Disney Visa cardholders. I got the code in my mail a while back and it saves you $15. Not to mention that the cost of the Photopass is scheduled to go up as of June 15th. I'm thinking if I order now it will be cheaper but I'm not too sure if it's too early to preorder the CD or not :confused3
Some are saying they've ordered it more than 60 days out and when they go to use the code it doesn't work. I know I preordered mine more than 60 days out last year but has policy changed? Of course there's no info about any expiration dates on the Photopass website- except that you have 30 days once you activate your code to order your pics after vacation. Helpful! :headache:

Any thoughts?

My family and I are going in Jan again!!! We are staying at Kidani and I'm super excited as we've never been to Animal Kingdom Lodge before :)

Hi! I am a tentative Snow Bird... We were planning on February originally, but I'm hoping they will still be doing the Celebrate promotion and if they do, I would like to go for my daughter's 6th birthday, which would make our dates Jan 9 - 16th. My only worry is the crowds as the weekend of our arrival would be the marathon and then the next weekend is MLK weekend. Anyone been then and can advise on what to expect crowd wise? We have only been in September the last two years, so I don't know what to expect... So my questions are: does anyone know if they will continue the Celebrate promotion thru next year? Crowds Jan 9 - 16?

Also really hoping they have the promotion buy 4 get 3 nights free and a $200 gift card again!!!! :goodvibes

My son wants to stay at All Star Sports again, but if I were doing another value resort I would want to try Movies, but I am thinking of splurging on CBR.... :confused3

I hope that do that promo again, too. Then my youngest DS and I could split the card and buy our birthday presents with it. We are looking at going the same dates you are, but arriving one day earlier. We will arrive on DS10's birthday, January 8th, and then mine is on the 10th.

Our first stay was at the CBR, and we really liked it. If your DS is anything like mine, he will probably really like the new pirate rooms.

Count me in! I'll be there for the half marathon, then I'm sticking around for a few solo days after. :cool1:

I'll be at Pop.

My husband and I will be running the Donald Half in January as well!!! I'm so excited!!! I have a bit of a *thing* for Donald...;) I'm thrilled to be running the half with my husband!!

I've never been to Disney in January. It will be interesting to experience weather that is something other than sweltering!!! We've only ever been in August and we're going on June for the first time this year! (A few more days!)

we haven't decided where to stay yet...My husband has always wanted to stay at the Poly...but we're there to run, not lounge so it seems a bit of a waste...I guess we can discuss it on our training runs!:lmao:

SO excited to see this January thread - that means it's not as far off as it feels! My DH and I will start our vacation January 6-10 at Universal Studios - staying on site and also going to Discovery Cove to swim with the dolphins! Then we head to the WDW!! We'll plan to split our time between CRB (never stayed here before) January 10-15 and then AKL from January 15-18. Of course, I'm hoping for some kind of special and then maybe we can spend the entire time at AKL - we honeymooned there in April 2007 and seeing the giraffes and zebras right outside our balcony was the highlight of our stay!

We are hoping to miss the marathon crowd by going to Universal first - and then we hope to miss the MKL holiday crowd by going home on the 18th. It's our first January visit - what do you think?

Well, if they do the Celebrate promotion again, you can either get in free on your birthday, or if you are buying multi day tickets (which I assume you are) you can register your birthday and get a $75 gift card. So you and your DS could have a lot of birthday $$, especially if they do the $200 card too! :thumbsup2

Yes, I think my son would like the pirate rooms, so hopefully I can talk him into that just to be able to try something different! :goodvibes

That bday promotion was great! We had the $200 GC then the $75 for hubby's bday. It was fun to be able to spend some money without worrying about it! If they DON'T do that again, I think we'll wait until the first week of Feb. to go next year...but since that means we'll arrive Jan 31st, I can still be a SNOWBIRD, right??!

Hi everyone, just found this thread. Usually I'm over at the Budget Board. My oldest DD is turning sweet 16 on 1/14/10 and when asked what she wanted for her B-day said "dinner at the Hoop De Doo Review". Did I raise her right or what?! So we've begun tentative planning for 1/14-1/18. How have those of you with hotel ressies made them? The WDW website says dates only thru 12/31/09 accepted. Do you guys usually use a travel agent or book the trip yourself? Any info appreciated!

WELCOME!! :goodvibes

You can call Disney directly and make a "room only" ressie now. They will charge you for one night at peak season rates and then make the adjustments when the 2010 rates come out. Which will probably be in August.
