January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

Ugh! I'm still in the funkiest of funks! We are supposed to close on Monday and it's just starting to feel really sketchy. I went home at lunch and packed up out dresser drawers. I wanted to cry my eyes out. I'm really going to miss our place. We've talked with two builders, but are waiting until we close to make a decision. On top of that Belle was sick last night, so I didn't get to sleep- probably explains my grouchiness.

Anyhow- to make myself feel better I ordered Belle two new outfits for our next possible Disney trip.:thumbsup2
I'm having a better day today. I heard from the closing people today. They said the plan is still for Monday. We have a big weekend of moving ahead of us!

Emma (AGPrincess) made these for my PTR-

Which one do you like better? Mouse or Fairy?
I'm crossing my fingers everything goes smoothly for you on Monday:wizard: and I hope Belle is feeling better! :cutie:
My vote is for Go Go !

Sure, just find some yarn that you like, and PM me and I'll PM you my address. I thought about a lime green Mickey, but I'm not sure how it will look with the colors. I'll add pics below of what it looks like so far. I thought about embroidering it on by hand, but I haven't done that much of it. Since I can be a perfectionist, I don't know if I want to try and them mess up the entire scarf. I may just go and see if I can find one in a store and then just hand stitch it on, or maybe borrow one of my mom's sewing machines and do it that way.

Luckily, I come from a family with women that sew a lot. In fact my mom made all of my barbie clothes. She would even make me matching outfits with my barbies. She can see something in a store and go and make a pattern for it. Actually, we both used to sew professionally. She started working for the company first and then I worked for her. It was a company that made all African American dolls named Daddy's Long Legs, but the company is now out of business. Now that I have learned to knit, the only thing left I really want to learn (sewing wise) is tatting. I had a great grandmother that could do it, and I have some of the lace that she made.

Ok, so here are the pics of my current project:

Those are beautiful! My mom crochets but I think things that are knitted look much better! Crocheted things have too many holes in them for me. :rotfl:

Soleil, I think I'd go with Mickey! She is adorable!

Question...what would be a good gift for a baptism? My goddaughter is being baptized on July 5 and the only thing I came up with so far is to start a charm bracelet for her :confused3.

So how is everyone's summer so far?!?!
My sister in law is my daughter's Godmother and she gave her a beautiful child's cross necklace for her baptism. It's silver and has one little "diamond" in the center. It's so delicate and I love it! It's definitely a keepsake. I pull it out for her to wear when I take her each year for her birthday pictures so I have pics of her wearing it at her baptism, age 1 and age 2 so far. She's also continued the jewelry tradition- for her first birthday she gave her a jewelry box and for her second birthday she gave her a cute little bracelet.

Thanks. I agree about crochet. I've always thought it had too many holes for my liking.

I agree with the idea of a cross necklace. As she gets older the chain can be replaced and she will always be able to wear it.

Summer so far is going good for us. Although we have our days and nights mixed up. We are living like vampires. :lmao: We stay up all night watching movies on Netflix and then we all wake up anywhere from 3 PM to 6 PM. Of course that will have to change once DH is working again. Last night since he had school this morning, I was up by myself. Which I loved b/c I could watch what I wanted. On hulu, I watched the t.v. shows "the Listener" and "Royal Pains".

**VENT WARNING**
At about 6 AM I decided to go out for doughnuts for the men in the house. After I got them doughnuts, I decided to get me a chicken bisquit from Chick-fil-A. On my way there, I heard a Carrie Underwood remake of the Motley Crue song "Home Sweet Home". It upset me so much that I went to Starbucks and ordered a venti Moca Frap with a shot of caramel. I love the orinal song, but that was easily one of the worst covers I have EVER heard. It was right up there with Madonna's remake of Don McLean's "American Pie" or the Tejano version of the Beatles "Let it Be" that I heard that was all in Spanish but the words "let it be". When I got home I was suprised to see my DH sitting at his computer. By suprised I mean I screamed a long line of cuss words and literally jumped. Which made my DH laugh a great deal. I told him about the song, and he told me that it couldn't have been that bad. I did a search for the song, found a youtube of the video, and played it for him. After the song had been on for just a little he said "If you insist on listening to the rest, I only asked that you do the humane thing and stab me in the ears with your knitting needles." Some one should teach that girl just b/c you can do something doesn't mean you should do it.

Kim, is that necklace made by Darling Diamonds? Just curious because my dd has the butterfly earrings and necklace. They are silver with an itsy bitsy diamond on there and the necklace chain is made to clasp on different little settings so she can wear it all her life!!

I like the idea of the little cross necklace. The charm bracelet is good too--very unique!! They you can buy a charm for special occassions.

Well, hope you all have a blessed Sunday---got to go rouse my bunch and get ready for church!!!!

I'm not sure who it's made by but I just loved it because it's so delicate. I like the bracelet idea too!

I gave my goddaughter a cross necklace with a diamond too. (I think I also gave a stuffed animal - maybe a lamb?) A friend of my mom's also crocheted her a white afgahn - baby sized. My girls each got a cross necklace for their baptism and I also had them wear it in pictures. The charm bracelet is cute too - you could give her charms for birthdays and Christmas.
Another thing my girls got was a precious moments cross that hangs on the wall. One of them got a wooden cross that has her name engraved in it.

Oooh I forgot that both my kids were given a cross for their rooms for their baptisms too! That's another good idea too!:goodvibes

Hey! What cruise are you taking? Are you worried about hurricanes?
We are taking the Carnival Eastern Caribbean cruise in Aug. Yes and No, I will just be glad to finally go on a cruise. We had looked into the DCL line for years, but this crusie seems more for us...nice relaxing beaches! I can not waite.

What's that?!?!?! It's 50 and cloudy/rainy. I WANT SUMMER!!!!!!!:mad::sad2:

I'm sort of happy with the rain at the moment though. I've been reading the Twilight series. I started last week and read through the first 3 books in about 3 days. Now the 4th book, for some reason, I'm struggling with and I have no idea why. So I keep telling myself that since it's rainy and yucky out, I might as well read.

Also, my sister is starting to change her mind about our big trip next summer. She keeps looking at prices and *thinks* it will be more expensive than she is planning on. So now she's starting to look at areas here in the US that we can go to. She's mentioned a cruise around the Hawaiian Islands then spending time in Southern California. I of course am of no help with this planning because I want to see basically everything the world has to offer, so I can't nail down one specific and say ok let's do it!

Oh well. Hope the rest of you are having better weather than I am...:headache:

Sorry you have not had warm weather. It has rained a lot here too. I am just glad we have not had to put our central air on yet!
Hugs everyone!:grouphug:

Thanks everyone for the gift ideas. I was trying to stay away from the cross necklace because I believe that her Grandma will be getting her that.

It's finally starting to feel like summer. I had the day off and was outside all day helping my mother plant more flowers (even though I absolutely HATE doing that). So I'm nice and pink now! Yay for summer!

Hi Friends!!
Are any of you getting any pincodes? I saw on the codes and rates thread that several people are starting to get stuff for Nov and Dec. Just curious!!

I got the 40% off code for AP holders, which was good for some periods in November & December. But it was also good for my trip in September, so I was able to upgrade from CSR to AKL, and we are so excited!

:goodvibesI got my very first pin code!!!!! :cool1:It's for free dining into parts of Nov and Dec and I can't use it but I'm still very excited that I finally got one!!!

Hmmmm perhaps I can talk dh into going in early December. There's just that slight problem of neither of us having any vacation time left.

Hi all! Thanks for the encouragement and for listening to me whine for the past month. We didn't close on the house yeseterday. We found out at 10 am that an appraisal hadn't even been done yet! That was okay with me, because at 10 am mom and I were still moving things out of the townhouse. The poor buyer, however, had no idea that we weren't closing yesterday and had taken off of work, hired movers and was packed up and ready to go.

The appraisor showed up at 11 am, it was done and came in BEAUTIFULLY!!! We are supposed to close on Wednesday now. FINGERS CROSSED!!!

The good new of the day was that mom and I have started setting up a BIG GIRL room for Belle. (Mom moved our their office furniture to make her room.) It is pastel pink and green and the theme is the Frog Prince. I bought it all last year at Ikea long before I knew of the newest Disney film. Kind of a cool coincidence!

RED- You got some great ideas for the Baptism gift. I'm all for precious baby jewels. She will most likely get a Bible at the Baptism and I adore all of Belle's newborn jewelry, most of it still fits and she feels like a princess when I let her wear them on special occasions.

Why let a small problem like no paid vacation come between you and Mickey. :lmao: (joking:goodvibes) Honestly when we were planning our December 2008 trip, DH was taking the week off without pay. His company did not give paid vacation until after you had been there a year. We ended up not being able to go anyway b/c he was hurt at work.

I hope that everything works out tomorrow at the closing. We closed on our house exactly one year ago today!!! I guess it's just that time of year.

Belle's room sounds so cute! Madison has her own room at my parents house for when she's sleeps over (it's also their guest room). My grandfather made my sister and I our own kitchen when I was little. (my grandfather was a wood worker). It has now made it's way to Maddie's room. She loves sleeping over at Grandma and Grandpa's house and she has something to play with when she wakes up (she tends to wake up very early whenever she sleeps over).

I'm glad your feeling better about it and that you will close on Wednesday. I guess your gut was right after all.

Her room sounds like it is going to be so cute. I have all boys so no girly stuff like that in our house. However anytime I get a little sad about that, I just walk into the boys playroom, and stare at their PotC posters with Johnny Depp and I'm happy again.

I got that PIN too! :cool1:

It is really making me rethink my January trip. . . November sure is looking good. . .

:confused3

Shelly--how is it going with your sale/buy? hopefully it's smooth sailing for ya!!!

It's still going. . . Slowly but surely. . . I am so tired of talking to realtors, attorneys, bankers, appraisers, inspectors, etc!!

If all goes well (and we are not sure it will) we should be closing on both deals on the 30th and moving on July 11th.

I'm sure going to need a vacation when this is over!!!! :rolleyes1

November is awesome!! It's still warm enough to swim without dying from the heat/humidity. Free Dining is an awesome incintive!! You could stay at the YC/BC & let the boys play at SAB. That is the most awesome pool area!!!! We loved it. And just think, after you move and get all settled in, your trip would be right around the corner!!!! I think you will most definitely need a vacation sooner!!!!!

How about the Precious Moments figurines for every year that make a train? That way, it also gives you a small thing to give her every year on her birthday or at Christmas. I'm not sure how "old" they go - maybe 10-11?? You could start out with the first piece (which I think is a clown) for her baptism and go from there. Then she'd receive something meaningful from you every year.

I'm glad things are moving along even if they aren't on the original timeline. Belle is going to be so excited to have her big girl room! We saw previews for Frog Prince when we saw UP and I can't wait to see it!

DH took the week off without pay last year so we can't do it again this year. :headache: I'm still amazed he agreed to go again this Jan! I had the choice of going again this Jan for a week or skipping a year and taking a 10 day trip next year. I can't wait another year although 10 days sounds glorious. I need my Disney fix sooner!

I think after going through the ordeal with moving you may just need 2 vacations- one in Nov and another one in Jan! :woohoo: Go for it!
