January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part V

Hi everyone! It was fun to read up on the last couple of pages. I haven't been on here in a while.

We have been married 23 years; that sounds like a long time!

We had a rough couple of weeks. My grandmother's health declined over the last weeks and then she died last week. It was good to see family from around the country at her services. I miss her.

My planning for our August Disney trip has been on hold, and now I am anxious to get busy in planning!

Hi Snowbirds!!
Congrats to Shawna & Mike, Becca and Aunty Shelly!
It's so nice to hear happy news!
I'm having one more light day at work before my boss returns from vacation! I even told her I'd work tomorrow since it's her only day in two weeks. I normally have Fridays off. Oh well, bigger paychecks are always nice! Sadly it's going to be a REALLY nice day tomorrow.

Thanks! Just think it's money for that Disney trip!!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Shawna!

We celebrate our 11th anniversary next month! :lovestruc

Nothing much going on here. The rain has finally stopped! Spring Soccer had started, that was a muddy mess last night. The field should be a little better tonight!

Thank you!! What day is your anniversary?
Shawna - Happy Anniversary! We celebrated our 13th on Monday! We're going away in a couple weeks just for the night. It'll be the first time we've been away from our DS (who is 6) overnight! He's staying with his grandma.
Thanks!!! And Happy Anniversary to you too!!!
Congrats Shawna! Our 7 year wedding anniversary is Apr 27th! We're going out to eat that weekend and I'm so excited! I just love seeing people's reactions when we tell them how long we've been married. It's pretty funny!

I know--people ask how long we've been married, then they look kinda funny and I can tell they are trying to figure out how old I am!! Ha!!

 Bananas all around to Everybody celebrating for one reason or another! We will be celebrating our 10yr on July 2nd and we are returning to the East Coast to visit Halifax and PEI! :cool1: We actually debated about going back to Disney for a few days but decided against it as it would be WWAAAAAYYYY to hot and crowded at that time! ;) Hope everyone is having a great day! :goodvibes
I would loooove to go to PEI!!! And yeah, Disney is awfully hot in July!!!
Wow! Congratulations to everyone (on their special day, event, etc.)

Our 10th Anniversary is in July (although we aren’t taking our Disney Anniversary Vacation until August). My Husband and I are going crazy about getting back to Disney, we have talked about moving the trip up to July but then we would miss the Free Dining. But… it’s such a huge savings that we can’t pass it up.;)

Free dining is a pretty good perk!!!

so sorry to hear about your Grandmother--it's sad to lose someone you love so much!

august isn't that far away! It'll be here before you know it!!!

Hi everyone! My DD has been on Spring Break this week and we've had some absolutely fab weather! Today, there is a high of 64 (all you southern folk, no laughing!)! Yesterday was wonderful as well. Maddie rode her new bike up and down the driveway for hours while I pulled some weeds out of my garden and soaked up the sun. I can't wait for another great day. She's heading over to my parents house to bake cookies with my mom and I'm grabbing lunch with my DH! He has gotten a new position at his bank and now works only 15 minutes away. Much better than what it was!

I also want to say congrats to everyone that is celebrating amazing milestones! Way to go! My DH and I hope to go to Hawaii for our 10 year anniversary in 3 years. We've never been and I'm so excited about it. We went to Toronto for our honeymoon, so we really wanted to go somewhere warm and exotic.

I hope that everyone has a great day!

When will you all book your trip for next January? I know that packages won't come out until the summer (so it will be room only), so I was just wondering what my fellow Dissers do.

What are the pros and cons to booking now, rather than waiting?

Good morning Snowbirds! :cool1::cool1::banana::banana:

EPCOT--I'm so sorry to hear about your grandmother.

Congratulations to everyone celebrating milestones! :cheer2: We will celebrate our 18th anniversary in November. Where does the time go? My sister has volunteered to come watch the kids so we can go somewhere for our 20th...I'm so excited! :yay: DH and I have not been away "just the two of us" since our first child was born, almost 11 years ago! Not that we wouldn't like to, we just don't have anyone to watch the kids for us. MIL offered to watch the boys for our 15th (that was before DD), but when we tried to make a plan with actual dates and stuff she backed out. :sad2: Those of you with helpful family (especially if they are nearby) should thank their lucky stars! :)

Well, I finally broke down and made a new ticker! I couldn't stand not having one! The dates are totally speculative right now. It's Memorial Day weekend (US) of next year--DS8 will be turning 10 the day I'm planning to arrive, and DS10 will turn 12 a few days after we get home. At Disneyland Paris, under 12 are considered children, so that works out perfectly. :thumbsup2 And DH and the boys will have a long weekend from work/school, but it's not a holiday in France so hopefully it won't be too crowded. That's my plan, anyway!

I'm not sure what I am going to do. . . There's no real benefit to calling now and making a room only ressie. It just means that you have to call back to change it when the packages come out in August. Then they cancel your original ressie anyway and give you a whole new confirmation number. I guess the only benefit of making the room only ressie now would be that it guarantees you a room at the resort you want, especially if you are staying somewhere that you think might get booked up early. But as we all know, that doesn't guarantee you that you can get a special/deal at that resort when those come out in November because they seem to only allot a certain number of rooms for those deals. . . So I don't know. . . . :confused3

I don't know how I missed your post. I'm so terribly sorry about your loss.

shelly, How fun to spend your anniversary in Disney!! Yippee!!!!

BellaS~ I book a room as soon as I get the okay from Mike!!!!:thumbsup2:yay: I like to at least FEEL like I have something anchored down. If we are definitely gonna do the CR this year, I am going to have to book it early---like in the next month or so...the last 2 or 3 years, at 6 months it was completely booked. I really like the BC better, but we'll see. I'm tryin' to get him to let us do 2 trips a year, but I doubt that's gonna happen. especially with the economy the way it is.

Now with ressies at 90 days, that kinda helps take the pressure off a bit---I have to kinda plan around the park we are eating at, and want it to be on slower days. How long was that last promo for? the 4 for 3 or whatever that we all got? I thought it was extended into August, not sure.'

Besides Aug/Sept (can't take that heat!)..anyone think of a better time than Jan for lower crowds? we have been in Oct before, but since they have started really pushing the Halloween Party, it's way more people-in my opinion. I love Jan, but the weather is soooo dicey-which makes packing harder!!!

Mid May was less crowded than January. One year the weather was perfect - mid 80's, cooling into the 70's in the evenings. The other year (last May) it was extremely HOT! Mid 90's everyday. :faint: But no real rain to speak of on either trip. Most wait times were at 20 minutes or less!

hey everyone! i have been absent for awhaile, but I am back, we had some issues with time warner cable and now that we have that all resolved I am back online! Woo Hoo...now we have direct-tv and windstream.

congrats to everyone on milestones!

I have only 22 days til I get to see the mouse again! We are also sneaking in a late summer trip as well seeing that we won't be goin to disney again til our honeymoon next july!

I agree with Shelly. Our HM (early May) was less crowded than January.

So ressies are at 90 days out? I'm so out of the loop now.

Not sure why May is "regular" season and not value ??? :confused3

Yep, 90 days for ADR's and park hours. So nothing until October for us Snowbirds!

Fun Question: If you could make ADR's today, what would you make?

(I'm in planning mode this morning. Can you tell?)

Ours- Akershus Dinner, O'Hana, Yak & Yeti, CRT Breakfast

Ya'll, I'm so excited about taking Belle that I could burst into tears!!!!

QOTD~ Oh heck I've been thinking about this for months!! :woohoo:

Repeats. . .
LeCellier
Big River Grille
Crystal Palace
Sci-Fi Dine-In

New ones. . .
Beaches & Cream
Kona Cafe
Captain's Grille
??? need one more if we go for 8 nights!

Shelly, we were there in May of 07, I think like the 19th - 25 or something like that...it was nice, kinda warm on a couple of days. But, we really enjoyed that pool at the BC. the lines weren't bad, and it did seem to me that this Jan was as busy as that trip was! I dont think it rained at all on that trip.
