January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part III !!!

Not open for further replies.
MnDisneygirl I too had a Disney dream a few days ago and not a good one.

In my dream I woke up sick at the hotel and had no medicine and none could be found. I had a sore throat and was just wishing for some throat spray.

Now this dream happened the same night I really was sick and had a fever and sore throat. Most likely my body was trying rather unsuccessfully to wake up and get some relief.

This did get me wondering if and what to pack for this trip. We will be there for 10 days and I would hate to be sidelined by the sniffles! I told DH and he said to pack a medicine box and other similar items and we would ship it to the resort (I can imagine TSA going through all that cold medicine and thinking we were up to no good!:rotfl: ). So my question is what should I pack in this just in case box? Motrin/tylenol...cough drops...throat spray...lotion tissues...???? Are anyof you doing something similar?

I know I'm being obsessive it's just that I have this feeling that IF I pack meds. no one will get sick...and IF I DON'T pack meds. we will be a walking bio-hazard lab. KWIM?

Okay I have a question!! When I booked my resort I also ordered my tickets at the Florida Resident rate. I was told by the CM that I would have to pick up my tickets at the Will Call desk. Now here's my question...if I call them back do you think they could just upgrade my pass now to the Florida resident Annual Pass and then just bill me the difference on my credit card?? If that is the case then I would use the AP rate and see if I can get a moderate room during my stay instead of the Value resort???

Hey Wendy!! What can you tell us about the AP code, did it include dates???? If so could you post those dates, I would like to see if I could even apply it.

Some of the things you learn...$239.00 the price of a Florida Resident Seasonal Annual Pass. I don't go during the busy times and this pass would have been perfect and cost me a whole whopping 39.00 more LOL!! I'm so calling the CMs today and seeing if can upgrade now or if I will just have to wait. I was planning on upgrading my ticket anyways to a 7day..at this point I'm thinking I'm just going to upgrade to the AP.

. . . . 15 pages later!! Sheesh!

QOTD: What is your favorite thing to do on your LAST night in Disney?

We don't have a regular ritual. This year, our last day will be a park hopper day. I hope to hit all of our favorite things, end with a great meal and hopefully some fireworks.

Well Here it is not even November yet and we had our first snow storm :goodvibes This picture was taken outside my office early this morning. Around 10:15 the power went out and at about 11:45 we closed up and called it a day :cool1: Came home and had no power, no phone, no heat, no internet...no nothing. Couldn't even work on my cross stitch project cause it wasn't light enough in the house on this dreary day. Power came back on about 3:45 and now it is toasty warm in here, dinner is cooking and here I am :surfweb: catching up on all I missed.

It is still snowing lightly and we have about 7 or 8 inches of heavy wet snow. Trees and limbs down everywhere, parts of the interstates closed cause of accidents and man is that wind blowing.

:scared1: EEEK!! And to think, we saw NOTHING down here yesterday. It is pretty cold here, though. High of 46 today.

Hello all, :wave2:

Decided to jump right in here. I’m not new to the board. I just tend to do more lurking than posting usually. :) I have been following this thread for a while now and decided to finally post and say that we will be snowbirds as well.

We usually go in the beginning of March, but decided to give January a try. It will be nice to have a break from the cold PA weather that time of year.

We will be there from January 16-31. Just my DH and I will be staying at CBR for the first half of our trip, 16-23. This will be our first time staying somewhere other than AKL. But CBR seems like it’ll be really nice. And then my parents will be joining us for the 23-31 at our favorite, AKL.

We will be eating at:

Jan 16 – Tutto Italia dinner
Jan 17 – Ohana Dinner
Jan 18 – Hollywood & Vine dinner
Jan 20 – Trail’s End dinner
Jan 21 – Shutters dinner
Jan 22 – Hollywood Brown Derby dinner
Jan 23 – Wispering Canyon breakfast/Boma dinner
Jan 24 – Coral Reef dinner
Jan 25 – Biergarten dinner
Jan 26 – 50’s Prime Time dinner
Jan 27 – Teppan Edo dinner
Jan 28 – Le Cellier dinner
Jan 29 – Whispering Canyon dinner
Jan 31 – Boma Breakfast

Welcome to the Snowbirds! We are in Mechanicsburg, just a quick drive down Rt. 15. We love Gettysburg. My dad is a huge history buff, particularly the Civil War.

I just wanted to check in with you all this morning. Today is DS's halloween party at preschool. I love watching all of the little kiddies in their costumes. Too bad their parade is going to be inside today.

Hope you all have a great day and i'll check in later!

How much was a regular room with the AP rate?

I wonder if I would be better off getting an AP. . . .
Morning Girls :grouphug:

What is an AP rate? Do I want to call my travel agent and take advantage of it or wait it out for something else?

thanks

robin
AP is Annual Passholder. I called this morning to see if it would be worth it but after paying the $500 for the Annual Pass, it wouldn't really help. I'm just crossing my fingers for Visa codes or regular codes.

How fun!!!! I can't wait!!! Well I CAN wait for the long lines they talked about but it looks really cute!

I'm working on my math for figuring out which DDP would be best for us- if any. Lately I've been reading about the food costs going up so it may be worth it. I'm running numbers from menus on Dis but they haven't been updated in a while so I'm sure the prices are different. Ugh I hate math- anyone have an easier way?

Annual Pass. If you buy an annual pass, you can go as much as you want to the parks for a year. You often can get discounts on rooms depending on the dates. See the previous post. I'm late!

I pack a little travel size First Aid kit with stuff for both adults and kids kids. I've learned that kids will get a fever when you are least prepared for it. I'm driving so I don't have to worry about airline restrictions though. I usually pack Tylenol, Motrin, a digital thermometer, Pepto, Immodium, bandaids, Neosporin, etc. I would rather have it than have to try and find it last minute with one of us feeling sick.

Wow! I've never seen that much snow in real life. Isn't that sad.:sad2:

So one of the few franchied Earl of Sandwich shops opened up here in my town (pssst Trixie!) so I can have it whenever I want, now. This might well mean I don't need to go there in DTD! It's pretty good stuff but it is pretty expensive, here in town. And since their sandwiches aren't true HOT sandwiches (like a local grill might make), more like Quiznos-style, it's hard to justify the price. I can go to Jimmy John's across the street and get two (cold) sandwiches for the price of one warm EoS!

Of course, I do live in a college town/work for a large U, so I'm pretty spoiled by my food options (for not being in a major city). Today my coworker and I debated between two fast Italian, two kinds of sub places, two sit down and 1 counter service Chinese restaurant, and a small handful of burrito joints!

So, we've talked about our kids and their Halloween costumes. Did any adults dress up or are you going to dress up? What are you wearing?

I don't mean to sound rude, but I have no desire to eat at EOAS. Quizno's grosses me out and I imagine that it would be like that.

G and I were thinking about being Jim and Pam from The Office, but I think that I've got to wear my church voulenteer shirt.:headache:

Hmm... shiny... I sit and stare and my engagement ring all the time... My soon-to-be DH did a good job. It's EXTRA shiny!

I was the same way about my ring! Being engaged was so much fun. I still look at it from time to time and think what a great job DH did.:bride:

I read about being boo'd somewhere on the Dis. As you can clearly see from my sig, I've never been boo'd either.

Welcome to all the new Snowbirds!:wizard:

It looks wonderful! I can't wait to meet Tinkerbelle!

This going only mean good things for the rest of us right!! WOW!! I'm really really hoping for a good code for Florida Residents...Come on Disney!!

I also made some inquiries into renting points so I'm holding on to see about all of that, because that might be the way I go we'll wait and see!!

Jen... you may end up in the Grand Floridian. You never know!;)

Is anyone else looking at the thread for Jan 2009 code watch? There's lots of chatter going on and someone said something might be out tomorrow that's more than just AP rates. Apparently the 2009 AP rates are out and someone called about adding dining. The CM told them wait til tomorrow. So maybe...

Thanks, I guess I'll wait.

DH asked me last night if this vacation is paid for and I explained to him about the codes and that I was waiting before making final payment. I just hope something good comes out before November 21. Our luck I'll make payment on the 21st and the greatest code of all time will come out on the 22nd :lmao:

I keep bouncing back and forth between the two threads. Would the free dining be just for AP holders?

I saw the preview of the Tinkerbell movie yet on disney. com- they let you see the first 6 minutes of the movie to get you hooked. I was going to get it for my daughter for Christmas but I don't know if I can wait that long to see it! It looks so cute!

Oh, I sure hope something comes out tomorrrow!! I have to work but I will be checking in as frequently as I can! Free Dining would be really great! Along with a Disney visa code! I'd fall over I think.

I'm only a week away from being under the two month mark!!

It wasn't clear if the dining deal would only be for AP. I guess we all wait!

When we bought the Sleeping Beauty DVD it came with a special DVD preview of Tink's movie too. It does look cute!! I think my kids will be getting it for Christmas. They will have to wait (and I will too!) because they just have been so naughty lately and acting so spoiled that I can't give them anything extra now!! I told them they have to start appreciating what they have and how lucky they are to get to go to WDW for the third time in their short little lives!! Oh well, that is one more Christmas gift taken care of.
Do you think the lines to Pixie Hollow will still be hours long in the end of Jan? There's no way I'm waiting that long!!

Hi,
I have booked the ddp, but might have to cancel it now. We might not have the funds to pay for our trip by Nov. 16th, we are just going to pay OFP and not eat at as many TS. I keep reading that crowds are going to be larger for our dates, so eating more CS might be a good thing. You can go to allears.net and look at the menus and prices to figure out your budget. I had figure out where I wanted to eat and priced everything and it came out a bit of a savings with the ddp. I just figure out around $600.00, compared to the $1119.00 we are paying for the ddp eating. That is eating CS for breakfast, CS for dinner, and three TS (Chef Mickey’s, Kona and coral reef).
I think it is a deal if you want to eat at many TS. It was a big savings before they changed it. I don’t care about the appetizer, but I wished tax was still included.

I"m pretty new to the Snowbirds group. I found you all in volume three. I have a questions for you experts I hope to get some opinions...
Last three trips we've done the dining plan. We love it because our meals are pre-paid (we're bad budgeters) and I don't have to worry about ordering the cheapest thing off the menu (I love me some filet but I don't pay for it)! ANYWAY, since we're going in Jan (yes, we're using the Credit Cards-not proud of it, but I WILL pay it off when the tax refund comes in) instead of May, I'm thinking of NOT doing the plan, since it really isn't that much of a savings, and then the TS places we love, we could mainly do lunch (cheaper) instead of dinner (except for Cali Grill for hubby's bday on 1/27-it's his favorite). So...thoughts, opinions? HELP!!!

OK, now I have a dilemma. The AP rate doesn't help me with CSR, where I'm booked now, or with CBR. But it would at POR. I haven't really considered it before - can someone tell me about POR? It's for my adult D and myself (H doesn't like Disney :scared1: so he's staying home).

I've always wanted to stay at either CBR or CSR; the theming at POR didn't really turn me on. And since July, I've been reading only about these other two! Any info anyone can give me (or a link to the POR thread) would really help!

TIA :worship:

I rented it yesterday and DD and DS both curled up in the same armchair with a big blanket and watched it. I found myself getting pulled in a few times but then it was back to the kitchen for me!:sad2: I may put it on again today and watch it with DS. The few parts I watched were really cute and the story line seemed really good.

:tinker: Pixie dust on all the snowbirds waiting for codes and deals...

Yep, been lurking over there too. . . I expect the Visa code tomorrow. I got it on the 30th last year! :wizard: :goodvibes

Ugh I hate waiting! I think somewhere someone at Disney is getting a kick out of all of our frustrations and impatience!

I think I'll wait and get my daughter Tink and my son Wall-E. We haven't seen either of them yet! It will be fun to watch all of them after Christmas and countdown our last few weeks til we leave!
