Hello all, :wave2:

Decided to jump right in here. I’m not new to the board. I just tend to do more lurking than posting usually. :) I have been following this thread for a while now and decided to finally post and say that we will be snowbirds as well.

We usually go in the beginning of March, but decided to give January a try. It will be nice to have a break from the cold PA weather that time of year.

We will be there from January 16-31. Just my DH and I will be staying at CBR for the first half of our trip, 16-23. This will be our first time staying somewhere other than AKL. But CBR seems like it’ll be really nice. And then my parents will be joining us for the 23-31 at our favorite, AKL.

We will be eating at:

Jan 16 – Tutto Italia dinner
Jan 17 – Ohana Dinner
Jan 18 – Hollywood & Vine dinner
Jan 20 – Trail’s End dinner
Jan 21 – Shutters dinner
Jan 22 – Hollywood Brown Derby dinner
Jan 23 – Wispering Canyon breakfast/Boma dinner
Jan 24 – Coral Reef dinner
Jan 25 – Biergarten dinner
Jan 26 – 50’s Prime Time dinner
Jan 27 – Teppan Edo dinner
Jan 28 – Le Cellier dinner
Jan 29 – Whispering Canyon dinner
Jan 31 – Boma Breakfast

  WELCOME WELCOME   Your ADRs look fantastic!!!

For anyone who was interested in booking a DVC room, someone on the DVC rental boards is renting SSR points for $6 per point! That means a 5 day stay can cost you $330!!!!!!!!
I bet it's gone in a little bit so if you're interested in this amazing deal I suggest you jump over there soon! I'm sure the savings are better than any deal Disney will put out!

Wow that is really a great deal!! I'm going to head over there and look but I'm sure by now that the offer has been snatched up by someone else more knowledgable on the subject than me!!

Hello Snowbirds,

I thought I would make up a special Wednesday Wish List we can all awake to.

1. I wish all Snowbirds and families much happiness, love and health.
2. I wish for no actual snow to fall just yet.
3. I wish for great codes that will satisfy all.
4. All rides and attractions and restaurants will stay open for all of our stays.

Good night dear Snowbirds. I wish everyone a safe and healthy night.

Remmy

Ahhh what wonderful wishes and happy thoughts!! I really am saddened by the fact that I learned that Pescos Bills will be closed during my stay, I had heard many good things about them.

I too hope for a great code that will help me to decide if I wish to upgrade to a moderate or not!!

Although I PM'd the lady who was selling the points for $6/point and asked her about so we'll see what happens!!

Jessica and Trixie...you two might have to hold my hand through this if I decide to rent. Trixie did a great job explaining to me how it works but I might need some more guidance!!

Okay I'm going to have to give in and ask....I keep seeing the bouncing Mickey and the I've been boo'd. What is that all about and how does one get Boo'd LOL!! I've been curious for awhile and just haven't thought to ask you guys.

Someone has to PM you the "bouncy mickey". There also some for thanksgiving and Christmas.

I got Boo'd a last year...it made me feel special!:rotfl:

How sweet! Thank you! All the same and more for you and yours tomorrow!:wizard:

I"m pretty new to the Snowbirds group. I found you all in volume three. I have a questions for you experts I hope to get some opinions...
Last three trips we've done the dining plan. We love it because our meals are pre-paid (we're bad budgeters) and I don't have to worry about ordering the cheapest thing off the menu (I love me some filet but I don't pay for it)! ANYWAY, since we're going in Jan (yes, we're using the Credit Cards-not proud of it, but I WILL pay it off when the tax refund comes in) instead of May, I'm thinking of NOT doing the plan, since it really isn't that much of a savings, and then the TS places we love, we could mainly do lunch (cheaper) instead of dinner (except for Cali Grill for hubby's bday on 1/27-it's his favorite). So...thoughts, opinions? HELP!!!

I read about being boo'd somewhere on the Dis. As you can clearly see from my sig, I've never been boo'd either.

I love the DDP for the same reasons, it feels like your food is free, and you don't have to worry! I booked the delux for my trip. Before I did I picked where I wanted to eat and looked at the menus and went through all the prices. It turns out I will be breaking even before I even use snack credits!
I suggest you try and do the same. You may save a lot, or you may just break even.
Now one thing I did notice, I was adding in desserts and apps at every meal, just because they're included. If I was paying OOP I wouldn't order both if either so taking that away I bet it would technically be cheaper to not do the plan. But I figured I would be decadant, and this way its not as expensive doing so.
Bottom line, the DDP isn't a major money saver. I would really look at your plans and your eating habits to see if it's worth it. I think more often than not, it isn't a great deal.

Yikes.... Lots of closing for Jan. They just keep adding more.
-- Splash Mountain will be closed for rehab January 4 - 17, 2009.
-- Dream Along with Mickey will not be performed January 6 - 20, 2009.
-- Dumbo will be closed January 7, 2009.
-- Mickey's PhilharMagic will be closed January 18 - February 6, 2009.
-- Pecos Bill's be closed for rehab January 11 - February 13, 2009.
-- Heritage House January 4 - 19, 2009.

I figured out that I have spent 19 days in The World since 2005 and I can't for the life of me remember what or where Heritage House or Dream Along with Mickey is.

We leave on the 18th and since I don't want to board a plane soggy from Splash Mountain we will miss out on that.....Awww who am I kidding...It would be WAY too cold for me to even think about riding a wet ride:laughing: . I do not get in water colder than 80 degrees even in the heat of summer!

I think you need to do whatever is best for your family! If you truly don't think it will be much of a savings then I would suggest you go ahead and pay OOP and just limit yourself to your favorite TSs and then eat at CSs the rest of the trip. BUT this has to be whatever choice you feel will be best for your family at this time.

We sure are chugging along in this thread. Page 41!!!! I'm thinking that I will probably skip my ballet class tomorrow morning. I'm still extremely sore from this past weekend and I'm having severe sinus problems. I know that I need some rest, so that's what I think I'll do tomorrow. Well, I'll do some :laundy: too I guess. Well, time for some sleep. Good night!

Was it just me or was the site down for a while?:scared1:
I was freaking out, all of a sudden my page went dead and I couldn't find dis!
Anyway I didn't realize how late it was. Must have been to busy shopping...hehe...a girl needs a winter wardrobe right?

Have a loverly night ladies, ttfn!

Sheree...we usually use a counter server credit at our hotel the morning we leave for the cruise. We did a land/sea package in 2001 (when it was length of stay passes), we ate at 1900 Park Fare the morning we left for the cruise. We never go to a park the day we leave...we like to get to Port Canaveral and on the boat as soon as they let us.

Well Here it is not even November yet and we had our first snow storm :goodvibes This picture was taken outside my office early this morning. Around 10:15 the power went out and at about 11:45 we closed up and called it a day :cool1: Came home and had no power, no phone, no heat, no internet...no nothing. Couldn't even work on my cross stitch project cause it wasn't light enough in the house on this dreary day. Power came back on about 3:45 and now it is toasty warm in here, dinner is cooking and here I am :surfweb: catching up on all I missed.

It is still snowing lightly and we have about 7 or 8 inches of heavy wet snow. Trees and limbs down everywhere, parts of the interstates closed cause of accidents and man is that wind blowing.

Life in the Poconos....

:scared1: EEEEEE! A huge difference between this and Shamokin (central PA!). It was dreary, but raining! My FIL said they're predicting a snowy winter. My kids are thrilled. Me? Meh. I love snow...to look at. To play in once. The way it snows in Jerusalem. It's snowing one day, you can have fun, and then it's gone the next day.:lmao: I hate shoveling and all the work that goes with snow. But my kids can't wait! SNOW! SNOW! SNOW! They think PA is the snow capital of the world!:rotfl2:

THanks for the advice on the cars situation. I think my younger son would enjoy driving, but we have a small amusement park near our house that will open in the spring and he can drive cars there. If I can convnice Thomas, who's 9, that the cars in Tomorrowland are boring. Scoty can be easily distracted by shiny things. :lmao:

Well, we have a prayer meeting this morning, followed immediately by Arabic, followed immediately by lunch and showing our apartment to someone who is interested in subletting while we're in the US, followed immediately by Scot's discipleship meeting, followed immediately by homework and violin and piano and supper. Then I CRASH!:rotfl:

Sheree, you can start using your food credits on the dining plan as soon as you check in - so while you get one of each kind of credit for each night of your stay for each person - that is 1 TS, 1CS & 1 snack, on a 4 night stay, unless you check in at night, you actually have parts of 5 days in which to spend them. Checkin day is day one, night one, day two, night2, day 3, night 3, day 4, night 4, checkout day is day five.

Snack credits can also be spent on quite a few packaged food items under $4.00 in stores (besides the things like mickey bars you might normally consider snacks) such as boxed cookies and donuts.

Mornin' my snowbird friends! I can't hang around to chat today! I have another little one coming over to play today and he is a handful! Gotta get movin this morning! I was lazy and did not get the girls lunches made last night! Hope everyone has a super morning! I will try to check in at Nap time! :goodvibes

I know! I also found out that Disney was not cryogenically frozen, but cremated. I was shocked. I thought for the longest time that they froze him before he died so they could bring him back to life later on. He died of cancer, and they kept everything surrounding his death really quiet, and had a small family funeral. Then, Roy died only a few months after Walt Disney World opened in the same hospital of a brain hemorrhage, during the same month of the year as his brother. Lilly and Edna, their wives, also both died in December, and with funerals a few days before Christmas, in their respective years.

I love reading about Disney... it's so much fun.

I'm also finding that Disney stuff is leaking into my other classwork. I have to come up with examples of concepts for my Social Interaction class, and 3 out of 4 are related to Disney in some way: Winnie-the-Pooh, Mulan, and Star Wars.
I'm definitely going to have to do a little reading now! I'd love to know a little more about hte man behind the mouse before I go so I can enjoy it more!
I did the gift cards last year. I asked everyone to get My daughter and us Disney Dollars for Christmas. It worked out wonderfully!
That's my plan too! Everyone wants to know what to get my kids for Christmas- my answer is Disney Dollars! It will help me out tremendously!
Hey, I'm easily distracted by the shiny! ;)

My coworkers didn't take anything from her purse. They don't understand - as they have offices with doors that close and lock - what it's like to have no door to close and lock. The problem is that by leaving the cabinet with her purse unlocked and OPEN and she's right in the main entrance, she's an easy target for thieves. And it happens often enough that I'd have pitched a LOUD hissy fit if it had been me. (I have had people steal stuff off my desk at the U when I had a job like her's!).

There will probably be heck to pay tomorrow, since the "thief" of the candy is kind of... hmm... not the nicest person in the office. We think she stole it since the boss was limiting our candy consumption, since it's 5 bags for the whole department through Friday. (She's also the type who will organize lunches with her friend-coworkers outside another coworker's office and not invite the coworker who gets to overhear it... then, since no one works that far apart, they don't invite anyone else. As a result, the rest of us circulate emails for lunch plans rather than OBVIOUSLY exclude people. And we're the youngest three there!!!)

But it's still a nicer environment than my last department!

+++

My body needs to cut me a break, btw. I seem to have a stomach flu. I can't eat anything without getting painfully ill and no, it's not the Tylenol-3. How frustrating! I'm hungry, too... I just don't like the result of eating! C'mon body, gimme a break!!
Great coworkers!:thumbsup2 Glad you work with such pleasant people. (Note the sarcasm there)

What great wishes! I'm still waiting for my codes!!! I hope it's at least this week. I don't want to wait through another weekend.

Good day to all my Snowbird friends! I hear little ones stirring now so I gotta run!
