January 2009. . . Calling all Snowbirds ~ Part II !!!

All you Mommy's..... seems that you all have little ones.... mine are much older... DD will be 19 in a couple of weeks and DS will be 16 in January.... so many of the things you are concerned over I was also when they were younger... and it doesn't change... the older they get the concerns just change.... I will tell you nothing makes you heart skip a beat like the first time they pull out of the driveway.... and the relief you feel when they get back home... or when you drop them off at college and pull away.... talk about tears....

I would rather spend all my time with my kids.... we have wonderful relationships.... while still parenting I am also a friend to them... they confide in me, ask me to go places with them, my DS still tells me he loves me every day and gives me a kiss.... even in front of his friends.... he is one of the "popular boys" in school, great athelete, great student, cutie.... and still a mama's boy and I love it.... one of the things we have really instilled in our children is the importance of giving back.... they realize they are very fortunate children... have many things that others don't.... they both have given hundreds of hours in community service... at school, church and community.... I know for a long time my inlaws really thought we pushed our kids to hard.... but we look at it as encouraging them to become better citizens.... and it works.. my DD is a kind, caring young woman and when she was ready for college she received a numerous scholarships not based on academics (although they were great grades)... but based on community service....

so don't give up on doing what you think is best... we all might parent in different ways... no one knows what is right and what is wrong... lead by example and be positive... and you'll have great kids....

I was thinking the same thing.... my computer just logs me in everytime... so snowbirds if someone gets on with my screen name and says that Disney is not their absolutely favorite place in the world... you know it is DH hijacking my screen name......

My DH wouldn't even know how to find the DIS!

I don't think mine would either but he's pretty smart so I wouldn't rule it out!

While I introduced DH to DIS, he was the one who encouraged me to join in on the boards. He can find it and read, but hasn't learned how to post yet. There's still time. Who knows?

I'm one of those crazy people who doesn't use much of a plan when we go to WDW - even though we're only getting 3 days this year! We only made two ADRs and will just be sure to be at those parks for those times/dates. I figure I can't control the crowds, so I'm just going to do what we want. Luckily for us, our kids aren't into a lot of the roller coaster, big popular rides, so we usually bypass that stuff. The only things that slow us down are the slow-loading rides like Dumbo. We do take advantage of fast-passes and just wing it. This year I've asked everyone the one thing they want to do most, so we will make those things a priority. Mine were all food related!

I don't know. Maybe I'm just a different breed, but going to Disney is about going to the castle, seeing Mickey, or watching my children smile when a character comes and greets them at a table. Mommy and Daddy have their time 340+ days a year. When we are at Disney, it's for the Children and the Child inside of my Wife and me. We've realized all too quickly that our Children are only young once and the memories we help make last them a lifetime. I can golf, go to my favorite restaurant, or swing in a hammock anytime. I can only high five Buzz Lightyear with my little boy or hug a Princess with my little Girl at WDW. It doesn't make my way better than another, it's just the way I'm a Disney Dad.

My DH gets 'lovingly annoyed' at my Dis use. However, he is on a forum for guitar players that looks almost identical to the Dis. He has even tried to log his name into the Dis thinking it was his board. It's a good outlet for the both of us, because he doesn't want to talk about Disney all day and I don't want to hear about guitars. He says it is different because he is chatting about his talent. Wise up, my darling husband.... planning a vacation is my talent!

yup....different opinions are what make the world go round Some people feel that their relationship with their spouse or their own self needs nurturing too as much as their kids need disney memories. I feel that you can do both and be well rounded and happy.

AWWW! Boy do you have it right! You are a good man, dad and DH!! I shouldn't speak for him, but my DH is all about doing it for the kids too. We are willing to stand in line for 2 hours to see Ariel on a cool rainy day because that's what our DD wanted to do on our 1 day at WDW last year. (Granted, even she decided we could have done more rides if we didn't do that, but still)

Here, Here. Gosh, I feel like I'm sort of agreeing with everyone today. We too take some time during the year to go on little "dates" and do our own activities, but Disney is family time. While I plan the major events and keep track of the EMH/shows/parades/ADRs, we let the kids take the lead as to what to do when.

You're such a wonderful Dad! My husband likes to pretend he could care less about Disney, but he had an awful good time on our honeymoon before we had kids (and I have pictures to prove it). He had even more fun when we took our son at 6 months so this time I'm thinking is going to be even more fun for him. He said he'll go as long as he gets to eat some Mickey ice cream bars- his favorite!

My DH is on a fishing Chat .... it has worked out well as he has sent a few clients my way.... then he asked me if he was going to get a referral fee .... he goes along to Disney because we all love it and he loves us... plus I let the boys play golf..... when you live where you can only golf from May to October any extra golfing time is great.... plus DH appreciates good food and he loves to try new places... so thats my pull... food and golf...
