OMG! I cannot believe I missed this... there is a HUGE dance competition going on the second weekend of our trip. I heard that it draws 30,000 students and 10,000 spectators... and they all stay at the All-Stars... which is were we are planning to stay this year. Someone also said that they are expecting crowds from the Superbowl... when I booked, everyone was saying that the Superbowl isn't a family event (tickets cost $800 each), so that wouldn't affect crowd levels. We are leaving early Saturday morning, but I'm really nervous that Thursday and Friday will be really crowded... it is true that the Unofficial Guide has crowd levels estimated at a 9? I've never been there for that kind of crowd... will it ruin our trip? I'm seriously considering changing our dates... please give me some advice...
What are the dates of the competition? I do my best to go when it is least crowded, I hope I made the right choice of dates

My parents do have directv. We do too, I just didn't want to watch the game alone! I absolutely LOVE directv. I recommend it to everyone. They have great customer service too. Whenever we have a problem, they are wonderful and we usually end up getting money off of our bill or something free (ex. 3 months free HBO).

I was wondering, seeing as this will be my first year being up here for the winter do you ever lose reception on direct tv????...just so I know to prepare myself......

Believe it or not, I have never seen HSM. My dance students all love it, but I actually have no desire to watch it. All of my DD's friends love it too. Maybe, it's just me, but I don't want my DD to watch it. I know that it's a disney movie, but I feel it would be too grown up for a 6yo to watch. We also don't watch hannah montana in our house. I let her watch it once, but when there was a kissing scene, it was all over. She's only little once and I don't want her growing up too fast. So, for now, it's just cartoons in our house.

My DD got a HSM barbie yesterday at her birthday party and she had NO idea what it was! She's still into princesses and she likes Tink too (I think my love of Tink has passed on to her!). I just wish she could stay little forever!
ditto!! childhood is to be cherished!!

We are going from the 24th on--leaving on the 1st. So...here's my theory-people who are going to the SuperBowl because they have husbands actually in it or whatever--probably won't go until the Monday AFTER ( on the 2nd) so we should be good!!;) You always here superbowl players say they are going to Disney---after they win!!!(or lose) so they can have family time after the game. I think if people are going as spectators, they won't spend $$$ for both. True? Any of you girls wanna back me up here....make me feel like I outsmarted the crowds.....

The dates of the competition are January 31 & Feb 1. The contestants have two package options Jan29-Feb1 or Jan30-Feb2. I know girls dance teams won't be anything like rowdy football players, but that's still so many people.

Are they in competition the whole time or in the parks too? I imagine the resort would be jammed, but if they're busy, maybe it won't impact the parks that much at least on 1/31 and 2/1. (Okay I'm hoping because we're only in the parks 1/29 - 1/31)!

Oh - as far as the Super Bowl - I have read and heard so many conflicting theories about how the crowds will be - I just choose to believe the ones that say people who go to the Super Bowl won't go to WDW until after because they have activities and parties before.

I was thinking the same thing about the same thing about the Superbowl... but, then I heard about the dance competition and I started to freak out! :scared1: But, thanks to a kind soul on these boards , my mind is at ease. Crowds are estimated to be about normal for January (4, 5, 6).

I wish we hadn't decided on the all-stars this year, but since we'll have a car and don't spend too much time at the resort maybe we won't even notice the extra people.

PS - I would have sworn we were on the list Shelly, but please add us... we will be staying at All-Star Music Jan. 24-31.

Thanks!

I'm so happy right now! DH is actually excited about our Disney trip. He even admitted that he can't wait to go . . .MY HUSBAND!

Who is this man and what has he done with my hubby? :confused3 Not that I'm complaining:thumbsup2

:rotfl: That's so awesome! My DH is the one who introduced me to WDW (at the ripe old age of 29). He and his family are almost as obsessed as me! Three of his 4 sisters have gone at least once a year for decades and his mom often accompanies one or more families!! It's so great! Now he says he'd be content to hang out at resorts and the boardwalk etc. and not go to the parks. Can you believe it? I think it's because usually we don't get more than 5 days to be there and we rarely get an "off" day to spend at the resorts. Not this trip either. Maybe in 2010! More planning!:cheer2:

Do you think he could talk my DH into being excited? :rotfl2:

Hi everybody! DD and I played hookie from church today. I'm still trying to re-group from the wild ride we've been on these past two weeks. My entire day consists of :laundy:.

It feels like October is flying by! Hope you all have a great day!

Next weekend is HSM3. Anyone going?

Next weekend is crazy busy for us.... New York State Field Band championships.... so HSM3 will have to wait a week....

Good afternoon! :goodvibes

Just checking in between soccer games. . . One win so far, one more game to go!

It sure is slow in here today. . .

:yay: :yay: Hope the second game was a win also!!!!

I am hoping that the crowds won't be bad until AFTER the Super Bowl... at least in my little world thats how it works....

Do you think he could talk my DH into being excited? :rotfl2:

Ohhhhhhhh... maybe there is a magic potion we could give the DH's..... mine is not excited.... he goes just because we are going and he can play golf...:confused3

So it has been a good day so far.... got to spend it with DD who came home for the weekend.... the Buffalo Bills won!! and the Red Sox are playing tonight.......... GO SOX!!!

:cheer2: I have been before in February when there were big cheerleader crowds. I rarely remember seeing them inside the parks, the only real negatives were more crowded buses and pools. I don't think that it would be worth incurring fees by changing your dates.

Also I got a new countdown tracker! I can't believe it's getting so close

Not really. This will be our first winter in our house with directv (we lived in an apt w/directv for nearly 4 yrs). Since the sattelite was bolted to our balcony, we could go out and knock off the ice/snow build up. My parents haven't ever had a problem with theirs though. The only reception we lose sometimes is our HD signal. When it's raining really hard, we don't get our HD channels, but our non-HD channels come in just fine!

I don't think the Super Bowl will have an effect on the crowds while we're there. The only thing it should affect is the hotels. Tampa isn't too far from Orlando, so I imagine a lot of people will be staying at the hotels. We're staying offsite at a Marriott and it was a little tricky when we had to change our dates from mid-Feb to Jan. We couldn't get into our first choice of Marriott hotel, but my mom was able to get us into a different one (we originally were booked at the Marriott Grande Vista and now we're at Horizons by Marriott). That's my take on the whole thing anyways.

Well I called to try to get an ADR for T-Rex and I was told that it is not included on the DDP. :confused3 I just read a review of it on AllEars that said it is included on the DDP. . . Plus the last time I called I was told by a CM that it would be on the DDP for 1TS. . .

So I ended up just leaving my ADR's alone.

Hi Shelly - I, too saw that on All Ears and it threw me! I have been reading so many different speculations about this restaurant! We are planning to pay OOP for this one anyway, but will wait to hear about when we can actually make an ADR. So far I've read that they are not taking ADR's at least until the NEW Year!

I am another mommy trying to protect my child from growing up too quickly! :thumbsup2 We don't have sattelite or cable or anything like that. We borrow videos and movies from the library and rent New Release Family Movies from the Video Store! They love Disney Preincessesprincess: , the Barbie Movies, etc. My DD7 has absolutely no interest in even watching the HSM movies! I have offered to watch it with her but she is not interested! She loves the NArnia movies though! :)

Hi to all snowbirds! :goodvibes We have been really busy this weekend so I haven't been around much! :) Hope everyone had a great weekend! :dance3: I should be around tomorrow during "Quiet time" I'll try to check in then! :cloud9:

I respect you guys so much for this! You have really made me think about what I will and won't let DD watch as she gets older. You are both amazing mothers and your daughters will thank you one day!:goodvibes

Thank you! In this day and age, kids just seem to grow up WAY too fast. I just don't want to expose her to certain things at such a young age. I've learned a lot through our church (if anyone's church has a MOPS group, I highly recommend it!) and our DD LOVES all the programs that are offered for kids.

P.S. MOPS stands for Mothers of Pre Schoolers in case you haven't heard of it

This reminds me of a scene from "Raising Helen". It's towards the end when she takes away the fake ID and says something along the lines of "If you don't want to fight for your childhood, I will." I love that movie...however have the Kleenex box ready!

XXXX

Good evening everyone. I was busy this weekend so I haven't been around much, which means there are way to many pages for me to try and catch up on...:rolleyes1 . Luckily I have an incredibly light schedule this week (16 hours). So, my goal is to get as much scrap booking done as humanly possible (and maybe chat on here for a "while".)

Hope everyone is having a good evening.

I'm just finishing up my laundry and watching Game 7!
