I too work with High Schoolers at my church, we have a small youth group so we don't seperate them too much. Although we do have a FCH (Future Christian Homemakers) club we do with the girls. I love what I do and love to meet other women who are also being great mentors to our young ladies. I wish you luck in your future ministries Soleil!

  I just love hearing about folks who work with teens - what a crazy age that is [I'd hate to be a teenager again!] and what an influence adults can have in their lives. I have something of a they-drive-me-crazy/I-can't-live-without-them sort of relationship with my gang at my small church.

Alot of people actually get staph infections in their armpits. Staph likes to grow in warm, dark, and moist places. My mom got one from a shaving cut under her arm .

Oy -- I think I see hairy pits in MY future :scared1: :scared1: Carrie, do armpit farts work better with hairy or non-hairy pits?

My advice - put away your inhibitions. The characters are great in going with your lead. If you have a favorite, wear something with them on it - a shirt or hat. Know about them and their movie or TV show, have something to say. My husband is a big Goofy fan, and he will always walk right up to him and put out his hand to shake it and say "Hi Goofy - you're my favorite" which just makes Goofy get all proud and hug and we take pictures and they pose together. DH usually has on a Goofy hat with ears, so they will pose with their ears the same way - things like that. Knowing which is Chip and which is Dale is always a great one, too, rather than asking.

Treat them like their character and they will react back. And don't worry about anyone else seeing you or judging your behavior. You're there to have fun!

This brings up a very salient question - a couple of us have been discussing whether or not we will be wearing ears - Mickey ears, Goofy ears, etc. I got a Disney gift card for my birthday so I wanted to get some ears [since you can't get them online] - would I wear them though? Do y'all?

[apologies in advance if someone has talked about this - I've missed a few days and boy, has it been hard to catch up!]

I noticed you weren't around for a while...I'm glad you're back! :)

   thanks for saying that! I just love our ever-growing snowbirds.

And, Trixie, you don't happen to have any pictures of your quilts, do you? I'd love to see them. Unless, of course, your user name has nothing to do with quilting and I would feel very silly right now....

You don't have to feel silly at all! I do quilt, although not much lately. And yes, I'd be happy to show you some pics of what I've done! It will take me a couple of days, though. :goodvibes

Do you quilt, too?

Err, uh, I'm supposed to be quilting - I have a friend who had twins over a year ago so I was making these cute little twin quilts. I messed up my cutting so I stopped. Then I discovered the DIS and here we are....those kids will be 90 by the time they get anything from me!

I do love doing it - I've made some baby quilts and a few for some girls in my youth group going off to college. It's so wonderful to make something that provides such warmth and comfort.

But, when I stop for a while, it's really hard to get back into the swing of things.

All that to say, I would love to see what you've done...

Hey, Peeps! There's a buzz on the January Code thread about Canada codes being released...anyone hear anything? I'm dying here! Hoping for something really good!:cool1:

Had a decent sleep. Have Arabic this morning in just a few minutes. And we have church tonight. I have an assistant Sunday school teacher, so I get a break tonight for the first time in weeks!:thumbsup2 No prep. I just have to be there to help her.

And that is my day. My older 3 have school today, so we'll have homework and the usual school stuff. Then my 7 1/2 year old has her first sleepover tonight after church. Hopefully all goes well for her! She's beyond excited. My friend, who is taking her, has 4 kids of her own and her husband isn't here. She offered to babysit for my 4 tomorrow so Scot and I could get out and have lunch without kids!:confused3 I think she's insane! But, we're taking her up on her offer, of course!:lmao:

Totally off topic of Disney.

My daughter is 4 1/2 and is in Pre-K. Our neighbor 2 houses down is a little girl who is almost 6 and in Kindergarten. The 2 girls play together outside sometimes and get along fine. This is until our next door neighbor, a little girl who is 7 and is in 2nd grade comes home and wants to play with the 6 year old. They go off together. My daughter tries to play with them but they say stuff like "we want to play alone" and "go home Belle". Sometimes like tonight my daughter doesn't care and just plays alone or sometimes she comes to me crying. She is very sensitive and doesn't understand why they won't play with her. I don't know how to handle this. I know how kids can be...I just want to know if any of you have gone through this and how you have handled it. Any advice???

Being mean is never the right thing. But, I want to speak up for the older girl. That's a big age difference. Some kids play well with children younger than them, but others don't. A year isn't a big deal, but 3 years, especially at that age, makes a huge difference. My middle 2 kids play exceptionally well with younger kids, but my oldest just doesn't do it. He isn't mean, but he just doesn't relate to them very well.

So, in fairness to the 7 year old, that is a big age difference and I don't think you should expect her to play with your daughter all the time, if at all. Now, the problem, of course, is that they have a mutual friend between their ages. That's the tricky part. Since the other girl is closer in age with the older child, I guess I'd expect her to choose the older child, given the choice. I'm sure that's hard for your little one to understand. :sad2:

If they are forced to play together, then the meanness could get really ugly. I guess, if I was you, I'd talk to my child about it, try to encourage her to play when the chance is given, but try to prepare her by expressing the age difference. "Those girls are so much older than you. It's nice that they want to play with you sometimes, but sometimes they might want to do big girl things." It might be hard for her to understand, but it is a fact of life.

It does break our hearts when our kids are hurting. Sadly, the hurts just get bigger as the kids grown and the meanness gets bigger too.:sad1:

Whoa! Not only am I double digit dancing today, I just realized I'm at 200 posts! Maybe I shouldn't spend all of my free time on the Dis.....wait, what am I saying?! That's crazy talk! :rotfl: How could I possibly say that? There is no such thing as too much time on the Dis! I love this place!:grouphug:

Party time..........   :woohoo: :woohoo: :cool1: :yay:

Ohhhhhhhhhh soon I hope.... I am worried though because I booked thru AAA and I knew more than the agent did.... I will probably have to go there and walk her thru it.........:lmao:

There have been some "pin codes" released for the whole of 2009 but they have to be emailed or mailed to you specifically! I have not received anything yet! Not sure if they are just Canadian or for everyone! Going out for Breakfast this morning so can't stick around to chat! Hope everyone has a great morning - I'll check back as soon as I can! :goodvibes

Yeah I saw that they are getting 40% off room only..... I would prefer free dining from VISA along with a ticket upgrade.... not to be greedy or anything....:rotfl:

How does it work when you get FD and upgrade to Deluxe? Do you just pay the difference?

Where did you hear about this? I'm off to check out the other threads! 40% off room would save us about $500!:cool1:

I am guessing that is what you would do..... at least I am hoping.... in my little dream world it will be free dining, ticket upgrade and 40% room rates....:rotfl: free dining would save me $160 per day.... or $960.... the boys count as adults....

Carrie..... some of the folks on the Canadian Board received emails pins for a variety of dates in 2009.... they were 40% room rates..... I just check the Disney VISA site and nothing on there.... and they will be down for maintenance tonight.... maybe that means a code......

Good morning Snowbirds! :goodvibes

Happy Saturday! Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. I know, some PIN CODES for the U.S. would make it a whole lot better, right???!!! :rotfl:

Pictures of the new T-Rex restaurant look awesome! http://allears.net/btp/trex.htm

Makes me wish we were going there. . . Hmm. . . maybe I will have to revisit my ADR list. . . One review even says that T-Rex is on the DDP. I thought when a CM told me that a few months ago she didn't know what she was talking about!
