January 20, 2008

Hi, everyone! I got home last night, after 4 nights at WDW post cruise. I'm sorry to have not met the majority of you who posted here, as I was late getting to the Mickey pool at 3 p.m. on Sunday - although I suspect the majority of you also weren't there due to the not-so-nice weather. Fortunately, Megan (mmps108) noticed my mom's wheelchair as we waited to embark the ship on the 20th, and I kept running into her and her family throughout the cruise. Paula (dustermom02) also noticed my mom's wheelchair at the Palo brunch! When my mom and I arrived, we were seated next to Megan's table, so Paula met us both that morning! I also had the pleasure of meeting Crafty Mouse (Michele) at WDW after the cruise ended.

I had a very nice time on the cruise, and I have 3 more booked: Dec. 7-11, 2008 (MouseFest), Dec. 6-10, 2009 (also MouseFest - but that one might get moved to a 2010 date*), and the Nov. 28- Dec. 5, 2009 western cruise! :woohoo:

Our cat. 6 handicapped cabin was at the back of deck 6. It was a beautiful cabin with a HUGE verandah (I would guess ~40 feet long). Problem is, I think handicapped cabins ought to be located near elevators, as my mom still had a long hallway to traverse to get to the elevator. The hallways almost always had housekeeping carts in the way after breakfast and dinner, and that made it much harder for my mom to navigate. Getting an empty elevator for her wheelchair was also a daunting task at times. So as much as I enjoyed the cruise, I really can't recommend DCL for people in wheelchairs - unless the person is a child.

I enjoyed the historic Nassau bus tour in the morning, even with the wind and the sprinkles. mmps108 and her family were also on that, so I hung out with them. (Thanks, Megan!) I spent most of my time at Castaway Cay at Serenity Bay - which was very uncrowded. When the dark clouds rolled in and I thought it would rain, I headed to Cookie's for lunch. By the time I finished eating, the dark clouds were gone and the skies were blue again, so I went back to Serenity Bay. I left CC ~ 1:30 to go back to the ship. Since I'm not fond of lying in the sun, next time I think I would reserve an activity at CC, such as the nature hike and kayak.

I've enjoyed chatting with all of you here, and hopefully our paths will cross again in the future!

*Edited because I moved the Dec. 2009 cruise to the May 10-14, 2009 DIS Unplugged Podcast cruise.

Am I reading this right Nancy? You're back to backing?? Nov28-Dec5, 2009 then turning around ind going Dec 6-10 2009 if the mousefest doesn't change? That sounds amazing. I dont know what mousefest is, will have to look it up. We might see you 11/28/09 b/c we'll be getting off the Magic that day. We booked just the one cruise so I'll try not to be too jealous.

Survived the first week back at work so thats got to be a good thing. Hope everyone else is adapting back to cleaning and cooking for themselves again ok too...

MouseFest is a gathering of various Disney internet communities. They have been doing a 4-day cruise plus 4 days at WDW between Thanksgiving and Christmas for several years. Here's more info: www.mousefest.org.

I booked the Dec. 6-10, 2009 cruise online, then rebooked it onboard. I also booked the Nov. 28-Dec. 5, 2009 western cruise while onboard. I didn't intend to go on almost b2b cruises (although I would love to!), but figured the 4-day would get moved to a 2010 cruise when those dates are available at the end of this year. Instead, I changed the Dec. 2009 cruise to the May 10-14, 2009 DIS Unplugged Podcast cruise just today! (See post #64 on page 5 by WebmasterJohn: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1673795) I don't know if the Dec. 2008 MouseFest cruise will be a keeper - but when a cat. 12 was briefly available online, I had to grab it!

I'm sorry we didn't meet more of you! Like Nancy said, we ran into each other quite a bit on the cruise and it was nice getting to know her better.

We had a great time despite the weather. My mom and I both missed dinner the first night, and my mom even missed the 2nd dinner too. She needed the first night to be better to get her sea legs so it ended up taking her 2 nights. Hard when it is a 4 night cruise!

We all agreed a 4 night cruse is too short! Not only because you have to head back to reality too quickly! LOL!
In that same vein, my DH and I rebooked with our friends (who were sailing on the Magic while we all were on the Wonder) and will be cruising to St. Croix Feb 28, 2009.

We will have possibly 3 little ones at that point and so we got connecting staterooms...joking we might end up putting the two dads in one room and us moms in the other!

My DH and I did the Exotic Rasul and it was worth EVERY PENNY!! I highly recommend it!!!

Sounds like you all had fun...for the most part :)

Is the 3rd "possible" one yours, Megan? :woohoo:

By the way - I cancelled the Dec. 2008 4-day cruise. I have enough places to go the rest of this year. :)
