January 17th, 2016 Southern Wonder Cruise

Hi all,
I have booked six of us for the 1/17 cruise (deck 2, midship)...
Me, my wife, and our kids (Samuel - 9, Clare - 7, Willem - 4, and Blaise - 16mo) I have been on cruises, but nobody else has (and none of us, Disney). Please help! This "Disney community" thing is overwhelming. I want to help my family get the most enjoyment possible but feel like I'm in over my head... sob! :worried:

One thing I'm looking forward to is Martinique... as we are from Canada, the kids have had the opportunity to be in full French school. This will be a great opportunity for them to practice their language skills, as my French is limited to basic words and inappropriate phrases. :guilty:

Where in Canada, if I may ask? I was in Montreal in October. It was really neat. Unfortunately, I don't even have inappropriate French skills. But most people spoke great English. Will you be taking Willem to the Oceaneer club? My son Beckett is almost 4 and we are looking forward to taking him to the club some so we can have a little bit of grown-up time, but I'm also apprehensive.

Just now found you guys...better late than never, y'all! This is our second cruise ever, and first Disney cruise to celebrate our 15th anniversary. We are beyond excited. It will be myself, Kenja, my husband Kenny, and our almost 4 year old son, Beckett. We are from Texas. I'm kinda freaking out about my son staying at the Oceaneer Club some while the hubby and I have some fun time, so I would love to hear from others who have done that and how it worked out for you. I'm really excited to meet you guys because on our last cruise 5 years ago (Carnival) we met some people that we are still friends with and have gone to visit in Chicago, so I know it can be a great opportunity to meet GREAT people!
I'm nervous too. I've done other CLs before but none with disney and this is my family's first. One of my kids is also 4 and will be a first timer to oceaneer. Everything I've researched has pretty much put my mind at ease, though. PM me if you need to have commiseration.

O

Once you've made 10 posts, you will then be able to send one to one messages. A good way to get your "quota" I've learned (above) is on the practise board. But until then, I'm from Toronto. My wife was born in Montreal, though. She always speaks wistfully about her time there.

We've never cruised with small children, but from my observations on DCL, most parents "complain" their kids never want to leave the kids' clubs. I've seen most kids scarf down a quick meal with mom and dad then rush back to the club and their new friends. Consequently, the parents have to figure out how to entertain themselves until the club closes. It's really hard on everyone. :teeth:

Oh, Sir William, you do not understand how "terrible" that would be for us! We have 4 kids (ages 30, 28, 24 and almost 4 due to a "midlife surprise") and 3 grandkids. As you can imagine, alone time with the hubs has been lacking for the last 4 years (although we wouldn't trade it for anything). Since this is an anniversary celebration, I would love for my kiddo to love the club!! Fingers are firmly crossed!!! :earboy2:

Happy New Year everyone!! Is anyone stalking the DCL website for the IGT Allocations to come out? I know it's a bit early but I am being obsessive lol!

Hi Everyone! My mom and I just booked this cruise as a mother daughter trip! We are so excited. It will be her first Disney Cruise! Is there a FE group for this cruise? If so, is it too late to join??

Happy New Year!
Marissa

Jason and Catherine - if you would like to join us send me a private message with your room assignment and children gender and ages and I will add you to the list. :)

Also as far as planning etc. There are several threads on these boards with tips for first timers. There are several veterans on here including me that are happy to answer questions too :) Just ask!

HI I just saw this thread for the FE Group for the January 17 Wonder cruise! My mom and I just booked this as a mother daughter trip and it will be her first Disney Cruise. I love joining FE groups and was wondering if it was too late for the 2 of us to join!
Thanks so much and Happy New Year!
Marissa

Hi out there -- we would love to get connected with the FE Group for January 17. Can you let me know if that is still a possibility and how to sign up

I'm actually about half packed. I have a cruise packing list that I modify each trip as necessary for destination, planned activities (excursions), pre or post trip stays, anticipated weather, etc. However, except for some clothing, those items I always take whenever I travel are already stowed in my suitcase. Just have to pack my remaining clothing.

Sir William, you need to offer classes on how to be an expert cruiser. I keep thinking I need to start packing and then I get overwhelmed just thinking about it.
