Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

Long weekends are extremely tough on me eating wise as well. Who am I kidding weekends of any type are hard on me.

Jane, you are still doing awesome! :cool1: I think kayaking is great fun. Find something that you and DH like - maybe take some ballroom dancing classes, or join a tennis or racquetball league. You are right, your lifestyle has changed and now you don't have to worry about babysitters, etc so do what YOU want to do! Once you find those one or two enjoyable activites, you will be good to go.

As for the eating, I did the same thing this weekend. And now I want to get back on track. I'm sure you did much less damage than you did before you started eating healthier. You've made so much progress this past year. There will always be bumps in the road. Remember, as long as you eat healthy 80% of the time, you are doing good! :thumbsup2

Beth and Amy thanks so much for your encouragement! What a crazy weekend! We've definately got to start incorporating some healthy activities into our lifestyle like we used to. I miss those days & its time to get them back.

I'm still enjoying the backlash from my shopping on Friday. I bought steak and hotdogs which we grilled out tonight. Dh and ds had the steak - I had a chili cheese dog.

#1 cereal & nonfat milk
#2 banana, slivered almonds
#3 chili cheese dog (in microwave), potato salad, coffee ice cream
#4 another chili cheese dog from the grill (ds took one look at my chili cheese dog and was about to trade in his steak dinner), potato salad, baked beans, brownie & coffee ice cream

My teenager is wearing me out! Ugh! Sometimes he's just dumb!

Wow, Jane, you've been BUSY!!!

Glad you're back on track again,

I think most Teenagers need to be put on a deserted island and the ones that survive can come back to society at about 21 - 25!!

Gotta love 'em, Gotta hate 'em. Or to rephrase a keychain about boys DD was given. Teenagers, can't live with them, can't shoot them!!

Jane, Your weekend sound like a lot of fun (gotta love mimosas!) and now you have a good attitude about getting right back on track!

I am only just getting started on the teenage years. It is good to know that everyone (kids and parents) seems to survive to the age :rotfl2: and eventually DH and I will get our own lives back. Others have come up with some good suggestions and you have some good ideas too about figuring out how to incorporate exercise into your daily life. Maybe walks on the beach at sunset or sunrise?

Thanks for stopping by my journal. I appreciate your encouragement. :teeth:

Great, my 10 year old wears me out! I'm really gonna be hurting in a couple years! :confused3

Coffee ice cream? Blech - :crazy2: DD wanted Mint Chocolate Chip and of course I couldn't find any so I settled for Andes Mint and Special Edition Girl Scout Thin Mint. Now THAT'S ice cream! :teeth: And all those screaming 7 year olds better eat both 1/2 gallons or else I'm in trouble...

The sooner you get rid of all the unhealthy food you bought, the quicker you can get back on track! :cheer2:

This morning I did 30 minutes of weights and 30 minutes of walking. The workout went by fast - I could have done more but had plans to take my mom out shopping so I ran out of time.

#1 oatmeal w/apples, slivered almonds, raisins, cinamon & nonfat milk
#2 3/4 bowl of brocolli soup, 1/2 slice of pie
#3 coffee ice cream

Poor dh - he fell asleep watching the news. When he woke up at 1am he couldn't find the cat. She wasn't sleeping on the wicker furniture in our office like she usually does. He looked all thru the house - even ds room but she was gone. He even went outside looking for her. Since I don't let the animals sleep with me he didn't check our room until last - and there she was safe and sound on the chair next to the bed! I was impressed that he would not go to bed until he found her. She gave him quite a scare.

Our house is still too hot. The a/c guy is coming over tomorrow to look at it. It gets up to 83 degrees with the a/c going full blast. We usually keep it at 78 so its a big change. We had originally called the repairman to come over but then told him to wait until the roof was on - at first we thought the a/c would be fine but between the heat and the humidity our a/c has had it.

Dh did buy a generator! Finally! Our neighbors were kind enough to share theirs with us the last few years when our electric went out due to storms & hurricanes. It'll be great to have our own to keep the fridge and a/c going.

The love bugs are out in full swing. Last year they barely got us. I hosed the car off on Saturday, dh washed it on Monday & today it looks just awful. When Mom and I went out for lunch she actually killed a love bug in the restaurant - neither one of us could believe it. This is like a bad horror film. They haven't been this bad in a long time.

Julie, love that keychain! I'll have to look for one of my own. Ds sure has a mind of his own. I can't wait until he's thru this part of his life - it sure affects mine.

Anna, you're right about taking walks at the beach. We used to do that before we had kids. Then once we had them I would take the kids over to the beach with my friends and their kids. Now, dh and I need to get back to those evening walks a couple of times a week. I wish I knew when we'd have big waves - dh and I both love going to the beach for the waves. He boogey boards and I body surf. Talk about great exercise!

Amy, I know I know - the food has to go - I've really enjoyed this junk food week - but it has to stop. The pounds have got to be creeping back up and I'm too scared to get weighed. Guess its back to finding foods that are appropriate that I enjoy. I'm never going to be a salmon, rice, brocolli person and I have to come to grips with it. I've gotten bored with my diet so I need to break back into my EFL book for next week and find some new, spicy recipes.

Glad you got a generator and hopefully the A/C will be a simple fix. :wizard:

When DH and I were dating he "cat sat" for my cat and my roomate's cat when we both had to be out of town for work. Around 3am the cat's starting meowing - hey, they were in a strange house. He got up and decided to feed them (first mistake!) "but they just looked at the food and kept meowing." He ended up going out to 7-11 at 3:30am and buying some different cat food and fed them again. They each took one bite, curled up and went to sleep. I knew at that point that I had a "keeper" He may not know anything about cats, but he was sure going to try and solve whatever their problem was.

Gotta ask - what's a Love Bug?

Yay on the generator! I hope your air conditioner gets fixed soon. Nothing makes you grumpy like a hot house! And I'm sure it is super humid where you are, which makes it even worse!

There are plenty of other healthy options out there besides salmon, broccoli and rice! I bet you can tweak some of the EFL recipes to make them more spicy. I have really gotten away from the EFL book, I also need to dig it back out! When I grocery shop this weekend, I will get the ingredients for at least one new EFL meal.

Have you figured out which new activity you are going to dive into? How close are you to the beach?

50 minutes of walking today. I'm ready for this month's challenge! Looking forward to keeping up with everyone. :cool1:

Yesterday's dinner - 2 chili cheese dogs, coffee ice cream

Breakfast - 1/2 bagel w/lf cheese, 1 banana, oj
Lunch - ham w/lf cheese on rye, oj, coffee 'thank God its gone!" ice cream

Anna, what a great guy! Can't believe he'd go to a store at 3:30am for a CAT! No wonder why you married him. That story was too funny. Can't believe they both took a bite and went back to bed. :rotfl2: Bad Bad Kitties!

Love bugs are actually 2 bugs that fly attached together.
Here's a Snopes Love Bug link for you - http://www.snopes.com/critters/lurkers/lovebugs.htm#add

This article reminded me of a story about ds:
When younger ds was about 13 he visited friends in central Florida. For the first time he saw Mayflies - which we don't have here. He came home and told me he was told that scientist's had created the Mayfly out of a shrimp and a dragon fly! :rotfl2: He thought it was true!

Amy, I've got to get out my EFL book again. I loved every recipe I've fixed. I've just gotten tired of the planning & list keeping but it always paid off. I kept to the foods that were on program as well as the correct amounts. It does take a little more planning than I did this past week with the hot dog & steaks. Of course, we also brought home leftovers from the beach party on Memorial Day and that doesn't help either.

It takes me about 15 minutes to ride my bike to the beach. I used to take a beach ride one morning a week where I'd bike over to the key & either park my bike & walk along the beach OR ride to different spots on the key. Dh and I had even started biking over there, going for a walk and then eating breakfast. I loved doing that but he didn't seem to enjoy it so we quit. From what i've been reading there's all kinds of bike & walking trails we should try. Its just figuring out what to do & seeing if I can get dh to join me. My neighbor keeps asking me to go to the beach with her but we seem to be on different schedules - I like walking in the early mornings whereas she likes walking in the late afternoon, early evening. I just need to re-establish this habit!

Good for you on jumping right on the June Challenge! :cool1: It sounds like you have some really neat options for biking and walking. Have fun this summer finding new places! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the link on LoveBugs. :teeth: and yep, DH is a great!

:cheer2: the coffee ice cream is gone!

Have a great weekend!

OK, all I can say is GROSS about the love bugs! :crazy2:

Definitely plan on some EFL meals next week. At least 1 or 2. You can do it! :cheer2:

Maybe you can compromise with your neighbor. Walk the beach in the morning one day a week and in the evening one day a week (or something like that). Or put on your headphones and go by yourself!

Here comes another weekend! I hope you will be temptation-free. :wizard: DD's b-day party is tomorrow. Heaven help me! :goodvibes

I'm 154 - I finally felt brave enough to weigh myself. My choices have been really bad. I've let myself down starting with the groceries that I buy & the meals that I've made.

Today 30 minutes of cardio - walking, WATP moves, dancing - anything to keep exercising for 30 minutes.

Thurs meal -
last meal - turkey on rye w/ lf cheese, cranberry juice & cookies & cream ice cream

Friday -
cereal w/slivered almonds, banana & nf milk
lunch - 1/2 bagel w/lf cheese, cranberry juice
Dinner - We went out for pizza - I had 2 slices of pizza & 2 cosmopolitans

Saturday -
oatmeal, apple, almond slices, raisins, nf milk
oj, fruit bar
LC meal, grapes, mocha bar
mocha bar & 1/2 scoop of vanilla ice cream
lefotver slice of pizza & ice cream

We were invited to go to a Mystery Train Dinner Show this weekend with neighbors but had to cancel due to dh being very sick. I don't know if its the flu or something he ate but he's sick! He even missed work yesterday and today which is very rare for him. At least I don't have to worry about the food choices at the show.

Thanks Anna, I really need some changes in my exercise routine. I'm looking forward to trying something different. My kitty woke me up at 4am last night & dh thought it was funny. Those meows are worse than a bark in the middle of the night. They sound so sad!

Amy, I've already been looking at the EFL book - you're so right. I just have to pick my menu for the week and then stick with it! No more ice cream - its back to the mocha bars & fudgesicles. By June 30th I could weight 145lbs!

You can do it Jane!!!!! :cheer2:  :cool1: At least you recognize that you need to change things up. I know you will get to your goal even if it takes a little longer than you'd like.

What was wrong with your a/c? Ours is doing the same thing... I think it is low on freon.

DS10 is also sick - he lost his voice, has pockets on his tonsils and had a 101 temp for 2 days. But he tells me he's not sick. His fever seems to have gone away finally and I keep checking his throat for the telltale white strep patches, but he must just have a virus.

Hang in there and get some healthy food in the house! :teeth:

Hi Jane, thanks for stopping by my journal. I appreciate your encouragement.

You are getting back on track - YEA!!! At home I have switched to turkey hot dogs. They are not as good as the real thing, but a decent substitute as we are getting into hardcore grill season around here.

Good job getting your exercise in doing whatever it takes. :dance3: (had to try at this kinda scary new smilie! :rotfl2: )

Sorry DH is sick. Hopefully, he'll feel better soon and kitty will let you sleep tonight. :cat:

Have a great rest of the weekend.

Hope the AC gets fixed soon! W/ Humidity, 83 isn't fun, I'm sure.

Glad you got a generator. My Dsis in Lakeland is still debating. They don't get hit often, but it's probably a good idea anyway. Last year her DH was able to bring an extra home from his work - he's most concerned about missing his TV shows!!

Hope you have a great week this week, Back on Track!!

Yesterday I did 30 minutes of cardio.

Yesterday's meals
#1 lf breakfast tortilla
#2 lf breakfast tortilla, with grapes, & peanut M&Ms
#3 more peanut M&Ms - a HUGE bag was brought in by an employee and we ate them all day long!
#4 two soft tacos

Today 30minutes of circuit training
#1 bowl of chili, 1 slice of bread/butter
#2 bowl of chili, 1 slice of bread/butter
#3 2 mocha bars

Amy, the news on our a/c is good - its not broken OR the news on our a/c is bad - its not broken. We almost wish it were something simple that could be fixed by a repair. Our a/c guy told us our a/c is fine. We're going to contact the electric company to come over and do an assessment. We'll probably end up getting more insulation in our attic. With the tile gone our a/c just isn't keeping the house as cool as we're used to. I hope your son is feeling better. Those viruses are horrible. Glad he didn't have strep.

Anna, I'll have to try the turkey hot dogs - with ketchup, mustard & relish they might be pretty good - You've reminded me that I've got to start buying my veggie burgers again. I love them, their low in fat & taste good too! Not only was that a scary smile but the new tv smile looks a little wacko too! Dh's stomach is STILL bothering him. I'm fixing him grilled chix on a bed of lettuce. He ate soup all weekend until last night when he had a taco.

Julie, we definately decided to go with the generator this year. They were tax free last week - along with other hurricane supplies. We decided we may as well get one. We're more concerned with our fridge & a/c than tv. With the windows all boarded up and no a/c our house was HOT and dark. Our neighbors have saved our fridge twice with allowing us to use their generator. However, there wasn't enough power to run our a/c. We figured its about time we get our own. That way we're hoping we'll each be able to run our a/c. Thanks for your encouragement!

Hi Jane, Sorry DH is still under the weather. Hopefully he'll feel better soon.

Good luck on getting the a/c thing figured out. Hot is not good.

You are eating great. The turkey hot dogs are a reasonable substitute for the real thing. Veggie burgers are good too. I actually like them better than the real thing most of the time. Are the peanut M&M's gone now?

Have a great week!

Besides the M&M's your eating looks pretty good! And at least they were peanut M&M's - peanuts are healthy! :rotfl:

Bummer about the a/c. At least there was something they could do about ours! And of course DH keeps it at 78 which is way too cold for me! I think next time he is golfing (Thursday) I will bump it up to 79. He claims he will notice 1 degree, but I bet he doesn't!

Sorry to hear your DH is still sick. Stomach bugs are no fun at all!

Great job getting all those workouts in! I am going to have a tough time this month, there are tons of appointments and recitals and rehearsals, etc that will really make it difficult. You are off to a good start! :cheer2:

I had a weird experience today. I happened to look out our bedroom window this morning and there was a MAN on my property! So I opened the window and called out to him, "excuse me sir, what are you doing on my property?" Thats not what I wanted to say but.... Anyway, he answered, "my dog is watering your lawn". Then, to calm my fears, he answered that he also carried a bag for anything that might need to be bagged.

Great! Its not enough that I have a dog and cat - now I have to deal with other peoples dogs. I'm sure my animals scents lured the dog into my yard - but the owner??? They were halfway between the street and my bedroom window. I don't mind people walking their dogs on my property along the street - but please don't come INTO my yard!

I also have to say that when I first saw him - I couldn't see his dog - it looked just like a man in my yard. It made me feel kind of uneasy - if my dog were outside at the time - the guy would NOT have felt comfortable in my yard.

Dinner last night - another bowl of chili

#1 lemon water, banana, mocha coffee
#2 bowl of chili w/ cheese garnish & 1 slice of bread/butter
#3 bowl of chili w/ cheese garnish, 1 slice of bread/butter, mocha bar
#4 2 mocha bar

Meal #4 is marinating in the fridge - chicken w/lowfat Italian dressing - waiting to be grilled.

Anna, no more M&M's - it was all mocha coffee and mocha bars today

Amy, I used to be like you with the a/c - I was always cold - NOT so anymore - in the past two years - the colder the better! I'm dyin' during the day.

My workouts have been short but I'm trying to be consistent. You've been creative fitting in your exercise and trying new workouts. I need to think 'outside the box' and fit in some new routines!
