Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

You are doing great on your exercising! And congrats on a day with no snacking!!!! :cool1:

As for the FitDay question when you enter a custom food, under the serving size, put in .25, then select cup from the pulldown menu (where it says serving). When you select it later on to add it to your meals, it will default to 1 cup, then you have to change it to .25 cup and select "Save Changes" at the bottom of the list of daily foods. Or you can look under Dairy and Eggs, select Eggs and there is an option for Whites Only. That is what I use. It always defaults to 1 cup, but you should be able to change it to .25 cup or 1 white only. Let me know if you are still having problems, I can probably do some screen shots for you if that would help. When you search, try the "Browse" option first. I've noticed it is picky if you try to search for something too specific. Good luck!!

Amy, it worked! Thank you. I went to Fitday, followed your instructions, entered the new eggwhites from their 'Browse' section, and deleted my other eggwhites. Now, I have my Laughing Cow Cheese, thin sliced ham, and eggwhites all on my list. Who knows I may actually start using Fitday regularly. I don't know why I couldn't find eggwhites before.

I've been doing my spring cleaning - I know I'm a little late. I always update my house right before Thanksgiving. Usually I do the Thanksgiving Meal for our family so its great motivation to get my house in order. I've been cleaning windows, screens and miniblinds in the morning. In the afternoons I hang out at Home Depot, Linens and Things, Scott Paint and WalMart.

Anyway, I had a major binge. I don't know if its because I was tired - didn't eat right or just looking for excuses. I was in a hurry at 9am and instead of having my eggwhite scramble for breakfast - I opted for cereal with strawberries & nonfat milk. By 11:30 I ate a LC eggroll meal. At 2:30, in between Home Depot, getting gas & going to two WalMarts, I saw Steak & Shake. I ended up with a cheeseburger. Then I was thirsty - got a coke or pepsi at Walmart, along with a bag of Ghiradelli chocolates. Also at that time I made plans with dh to order PIZZA since ds and his wife were coming over tonight. All of these decisions were between 2:30 and 3:30. I guess 3pm isn't a good time for me!

Fast Forward to 8:30pm when the pizza arrived. I couldn't eat as much as I used to. I was starving - I ordered the pizza at 7pm for a delivery before 8pm. Pizza Hut messed up our order & we ended up with three free pizzas. By the time they arrived at 8:30pm I was starving. I opened the medium - took two of the smallest slices and did the same with the large. I tore off the crusts - for the dog. By the time I finished all four slices I was dying. It was way too much food. I used to eat five large slices with no problem.

I think from now on I'm going to have some sort of protein for breakfast: eggwhites, lowfat cheese etc. I just don't do well with cereal and I think somehow that it helped set me up for a binge. I felt hungry all day long!

I'm glad you got FitDay to work! It takes some getting used to, but once you put all your faves in there, it is pretty easy!!

Yes, you need to get some protein in the morning! It helps keep you fuller longer. Do you like yogurt? I'm guessing you don't since I never see it on your food list... I love the FF vanilla mixed with Kashi Go Lean Crunch. YUM!

The good thing about the pizza is that you didn't eat as much as you used to! That is a good sign!!! And don't worry about it, just get back on track today!

How is your house coming along? Hang in there and get back on track! :cheer2:

Checking in to see how you are doing and you look like you are doing well recognizing what might or might not be working and that is great!!!! Hang in there.

Take care
Keep on

I had to take my daughter in law to the hospital last night. Dh & I were at our grocery store's food festival yesterday. They have samples of the different foods - but more importantly about 5 or 6 different wine samplings. As we were about to leave she phoned me. Apparently she had fainted. Dh & I picked her up, I dropped dh off at home, and I took her to the hospital. We were there about 4 hours but they couldn't find anything. She wears one of those birth control patches which have been in the news lately. It always causes a rash on her skin. She'd aleady made an appointment for next week to have it removed. I'm just glad that she's fine.

My house now is in a state of disorder. I found curtains at Home Depot that I love in our family room. For our office - which is similiar to a Florida room - but ours is under air, I had decided to use the same curtains. We have seven windows in there. When I bought the four panels for our family room - there were no more Sage curtains left. I waited 2 days, then went back, still no more curtains. I checked online & they don't offer the same curtains. Yesterday I decided to go to the city next to us. I get clear up there & they don't offer these curtains either. I was so mad! I ended up at WalMart & bought two different types of curtains. I want to have something up for Thanksgiving. I've put on a set of sage panels with a valance. THen I put up a sheer set of moss green curtains without valances. I'll let dh decide.

Also, yesterday I got home just in time to hear the guilty verdict for the Carlie Brucia murder trial. Since it happened here I've been following it diligently. Its been very upsetting. THankfully, the verdict was guilty. This man had a history of violence against women and was either acquitted for his past crimes or barely served any time. Thank God he's not walking our streets anymore. I feel so bad for Carlie & her family. THank God that the car wash had a security system which showed her being kidnapped. I often wonder what would have happened without that damaging tape.

None of this has anything to do with my food entries! I've been walking like crazy - but no exercise minutes.

Yesterday I had tons of samples at the two food festival events. Dh & I also split a 7 layer bar late last night. I bought that at the hospital to get money to tip the valet with. It sure was good.

Today, lowfat cheese, 2 apples & 6 slices of ultra thin ham.

Amy, thanks again for your help with Fitday. You're right, I hate yogurt. I've had friends who love it - they've tried to get me to eat it, & I just don't like it. Sometimes I'll use some as a dip for fruits. Right now my house is a mess. Dh & his friend are going to try to paint this Saturday afternoon.

Chris, thanks for stopping by. I'm a little stressed out right now - but I'm hanging in there!

I hope everything is OK with your daughter-in-law! That happened to me twice when I was in college. Turns out I was not getting enough protein in my diet. I guess that is what happens when you eat popcorn and macaroni-n-cheese for dinner every night...

You are going to have your hands full getting the house ready for Thanksgiving! How brave of you to change things around so close to the holiday!!! That stress alone should take a couple lbs off! :rotfl:

I'm with you on that conviction. Anyone who can commit crimes like that should be punished way more than they are. Prison just doesn't cut it. They should be sent to some hard labor camp. Have you heard of our sheriff Joe Arpaio? He is awesome. He makes all the inmates wear pink underwear with black-n-white striped prison uniforms. They sleep in tents out in the scorching desert. They also do chain-gang labor and only eat bologna sandwiches. A couple years ago he tried to make it so they had to use bicycle power for electricity, but the state wouldn't let him...

What is a 7 layer bar? Do any of the layers involve chocolate or cheesecake?!?

Hi Jane-

I hope your DIL is ok. That must've been really scarey.

I'm sorry that you couldn't find the curtains you wanted. I get that way about my house too, where I want everything to look a certain way and I have to journey all over town to get what I need. It can be frustrating, especially when you also have to host a big holiday meal. I know you have a lot to do, but don't forget to take some time for yourself. :)

I've been really busy lately. This weekend I met with a friend who is going thru a divorce. She's been married 20 years so she's having a very difficult time. It was tough talking with her. I worked this weekend but I did manage to get in 20 minutes of cardio on Saturday. I also went in this morning to work for a few hours - they have no other activity person now.

My eating was up and down. Breakfasts and lunches went pretty well - Lean Cuisine or Veggie Burgers. Because of the painting, cleaning - we stayed home all weekend and didn't go out. HOwever, Friday night dh brought home chix wings but instead of french fries he ordered the baby red potatoes. Saturday afternoon he and a friend were supposed to paint. His friend had something come up at the last minute so he wasn't able to help. Dh got busy at work & instead of getting home at 1pm to paint he got home at about 5pm to paint. Sunday he finished putting the primer coat on and this morning he started with the actual paint. Meanwhile I wish that he didn't have so much work to do. We've got so much to do here.

Last night I had a grilled chix salad from McDonalds with my own nofat dressing. Today for lunch I broke down and made quesadillas - black bean, onion, green pepper & cheese. I had all of this extra stuff that needs to be used up before thanksgiving.

I've been stressing out on peanut M&M's!

Amy, 7 layer bars: choc chips, butterscotch chips, coconut, walnuts, graham cracker crust, sweetened condensed milk is poured over the top (I can't remember the 7th ingredient.) I did see your Sheriff on a tv special of some sort. They talked about the pink & the tents! Sounds like he has the respect of all the people in your area. LOL! bicycle powered electricity!

Frogmommy, daughter in law is fine now. I just hope that she takes care of herself. For some reason her blood pressure got really low. How did you survive the decorating dilemnas? I'm stressin' about the curtains. I finally just decided on some WalMart curtains for our office. However, I only bought four panels - I wanted to make sure they looked ok. When I went back to a WalMart near me - they only had 3 panels - I still need 3 more so I'm going over to another WalMart this evening. I did manage to buy valances for the kitchen windows. And I have to decide what to put on the window in my backdoor. I also bought matching rugs for the kitchen, family room & entry way.

This weekend I felt like my diet took a backseat. However, I was pleasntly surprised when a coworker that I have worked with for seven years - came up to me & asked me how much weight I've lost. We work together about once a month & this is the first time she noticed! LOL!

Oooh, I wish I never asked about those bars. They sound SO good!!! :goodvibes

Don't worry about your eating for the weekend. This week is going to be tough for everyone. I am just trying to maintain, I think that is the best I can do with Thanksgiving this week followed by my wedding next week...

What a great compliment from your co-worker! All your hard work and dedication is showing! And look at you, you are almost to the halfway point with your exercise challenge! Way to go! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Yesterday I managed to get in 10 minutes of walking. For dinner last night we grilled steaks & I micro'ed some brocolli to go with it.

My weigh in this week is 155.5.

Today I've been munchin' on those M&M's again.

breakfast: bean burger with mustard - no bun
lunch: same thing

Amy, thanks for your encouragement. I'm really stressin' about getting stuff done. Dh finished painting, & I've got almost all of the curtains up. Then I'm going to scrub my kitchen windows on the outside & get all my housecleaning finished so tomorrow I can concentrate on setting up the tables & food prep. I really don't like cooking traditional foods. I cook a turkey once a year & it always intimidates me. Let me fix fajitas, grilled shrimp or tilapia & I'm happy.

Hey Jane,

Hope Thanksgiving turns out fine, everything will get done. Remember to breathe now and then!! :sunny:

Sorry I've been MIA lately. Got a cold that really knocked me down for a while.

Hope your DIL is doing ok, that must have been scary for all of you.

I agree with the holiday food. It is tasty, and there are a lot of memories, some of that comfort food, but it all seems so heavy, and not the way I eat now. Tilapia and shrimp sound good to me to. Why not start a new tradition?

(Shoot, listen to me, I'm just making a new sweet potato recipe and my DD is complaining about no marshmallows, and I'm worried everyone else will think the same thing - that I always try new "weird" stuff! :rotfl: )

You are welcome for the encouragement, and I thank you as well! We make pretty good WISH buddies I think!

You will get things done, don't worry! I am in the midst of making our "to do" list for Thursday... I agree on the turkey. Once a year is enough for me too! Why don't you make fajitas and freak everyone out? It's your house... :rotfl:

You will do great on Thursday! Have plenty of veggies around and remember moderation is the key! You are doing great, keep it up! :cheer2:

Throw those M&Ms out the window (I should talk, there was a time that I had some and I just couldn't do it). Hopefully you'll get back on track and take a break if needed.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
Keep on
Chris

I hope you got all your decorating done in time for the big day!

I'm sure you are having a wonderful, healthy holiday. Enjoy it! :flower:

I hope everyone had a great holiday! Phew! What a busy few days. Yes we got all of our painting finished, curtains up, pictures hung & the china cleaned. I had two tables set up with my Thanksgiving tablecloths. I have two missing china plates in my set. I always crack everyone up - I get a salad plate for my main plate & dh gets a platter! I think my mother squirms when she sees my table all set.

Everyone loved the house - the new appliances, the paint, the curtains - it all looked great. It was a nice, warm day - we opened up all of the windows and the sheer curtains were blowing in the breeze. Several times bil said was a beautiful day it was.

We've eaten a lot the past couple days. Yesterday I made a huge platter of turkey salad - its all gone now. I ate a good breakfast - turkey, real cranberries, lowfat cheese & an apple. But had a lousy lunch - stuffing & gravy with cranberry on the side.

I read in Perricones book that adding an apple to all three meals increases weightloss. I have no idea what I weigh but I've been reading Perricones book, adding supplements & trying to increase my fiber & water intake in between eating like crap!

A couple weeks ago I was messing around with a BMI calculator. At 180 I was obese, at 155.5 I'm overweight if I can get down to 148 I'll be average! I need those numbers! Its amazing how your life can change just by losing 25-30lbs.

Thanks Chris & Amy. We had a blast on Thanksgiving. We had champagne, Gewurtraminer, & white zinfadel. No wonder everyone was so happy! Even my mother mixed champagne in with her sparkling juice. After it was over dh & I collapsed. I was so worn out - I could barely move. I felt like I was in a tryptophan coma. We're having friends over tomorrow - orignally I was going to make a meal out of leftovers - but dh has decided just to order pizza. Friends are coming over at 5pm - we've been invited over to relatives at noon for lunch. Its going to be a tight squeeze since the relatives are a couple of hours away.

Sounds like you had a fantastic time! Enjoy all the visits with friends and relatives, that is what life is all about!! And by the time you finally wind down from this holiday, it will be time for Christmas!!! I love this time of year! :cool1:

You will get back on track next week after all the visiting is over and you get back into your routine, don't worry! Keep it up, you will be "average" in no time! :cheer2:

Last night dh & I walked for 20 minutes and today I got in 10 minutes of cardio.

breakfast: eggwhites w/onions & lowfat cheese, 1 pear w/ginger

lunch: turkey salad w/ an apple, Santas White Christmas Ice Cream

For dinner I've made turkey pot pies with all of the leftovers. I'd like to get in some yoga today. I'm trying to add an apple or pear to each meal.

Somehow we managed to fit everything in yesterday. We got back from visiting at close to 4pm - I made a big salad, grabbed some tortilla chips, salsa & guacamole, ordered in a couple of pizzas, and bought Eskimo Pies for dessert. Our company got here at 5pm so it was close.

Amy, I agree that this is a great time of year. I can't believe how busy you are. Christmas is right around the corner! I just have to place a priority on my eating plan & workouts to get thru this.

My weight is 158!! OUCH!

I'm not even going to ask what that ice cream is like... I don't want anything else to tempt me!

They had a sign at the gym that says people on average gain 10-15lbs over the holidays. I don't know where they got that figure, but I refuse to be average in this case! You will get back on track in no time. You are right, you have to make exercise a priority.

You can do it! :cheer2:

You're right, Amy there is NO WAY that I'm going to gain 10-15lbs! I will be getting in my exercise today. :Pinkbounc

breakfast: turkey slices, lowfat cheese, 1 apple & cinamon tea - I stuck a cinamon stick in hot water - its a suggestion from Dr. Perricone. Cinamon is supposed to keep you blood sugar stable. He's really big on using herbs.

Yesterday dh & I went to the second run movie theater to see Flight Plan (we didn't like it) & out to Chili's for nachos at about 7pm- I drank soda - not the best for me!

Today 40 minutes of jog walks

breakfast: 1/4C oatmeal, 1 apple & cinamon, 5 pine nuts - according to the package 1/4C of pine nuts are 13 grams of fat. I ate 5 pine nuts, so I'm guessing 1 gram of fat. Dr. Perricone stress the use of nuts & seeds in his diet but it makes me feel guilty. We'll see how this Perricone thing works.

totals so far 185 calories 3.25 fat grams

I finished the Santas White Christmas Ice Cream during the Real World Reunion last night. Originally I bought it for our company on Sunday - we had 4 people over & I figured when you add in dh & I that the ice cream would probably be eaten up on Sunday. When we got behind in coming back from visiting relatives - dh & I stopped at the store to pick up some easy fixin' things. We opted for Eskimo Pies for our dessert. That made everything easy for Sunday but I had a whole lot of delicious ice cream. We also had leftover pizza from Sunday which I broke into while watching the reunion last night at 10:15pm. I'm not even going to think about those calories. Those Real Worlders - fought the whole night - they're really messed up!

I think all of the bad food is gone. Now I'm back to concentrating on staying fit & keeping in shape. If I could get below 150, I know I'd look and feel a lot better. Guess I should say 'when' not 'if' I get below 150!
