Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

I hope when you say pineapple and potato salad that is 2 separate things! I can't think of anything good to come from that being combined...

I'm glad you didn't lose your power. I would not be able to sleep during the day like that! I would be so screwed up. I'd rather be grumpy all day and go to bed early that night. It is torture for me when I travel overseas. It always seems like just when I can finally sleep through the night, it is time to come home, and I can't sleep for another 3-4 nights... :confused3

Mmmm, Italian. Well, unfortunately that has fat and calories written all over it! Just order what you want (maybe get a to-go box and take 1/2 home), enjoy it and don't feel guilty! Everyone deserves a splurge once in a while! And we both know how to splurge on the weekends, don't we? Besides, I think your Italian splurge will be WAY less damaging than my alcohol-fueled Halloween feeding frenzy! :rotfl:

That's great that you'll be able to kick in the afterburners on your exercising! Do I sense another come from behind victory on your exercise challenge? You can do it! :cheer2:

We lost our power today. I left the house at 10am and it was on. At 2pm I returned home and it was out. They must've turned off my power while restoring power for others. Some homes in our town did lose electric. We were one of the fortunate majority.

yesterday's food - maybe I shouldn't journal this one!

lunch: pnut butter &jam sandwich

dinner: ouch! We were invited out to an open house last night. I kept thinking 'no big deal'. I can control myself. Obviously, I can't. It started out well. I ate fruit: pinapple, melon & grapes. They had pizza which I completely overdid. Here comes my love for Italian food again. Then I ate chix nuggets, cake & chocolate. They had Ghiradelli's chocolate which is a weakness of mine. I received a double whammy: chocolate and pizza. Also had 2 glasses of white zin. Dh filled up on seafood which is what I should have done, but the pizza tastes so much better.

Upon returning home I went for a 10 minute walk at about 9:30pm. I felt so stuffed & uncomfortable. Then, while walking, a young guy, about 20 years old, asked me what time it was. I told him and he said, 'thank you Miss'. :rotfl: LMAO! I haven't heard "Miss" in years.

I know, I know I did horribly yesterday! However, I wore my size 12s today and they still fit!! Just don't ask me WHY!

Today:
breakfast: 1/2 banana sliced in with a ring of fresh pineapple

Took my Mom out shopping and for lunch. We decided to go to a casual restaurant on the Bay. We ended up splitting 2 appetizers: crab cakes & Quesadillas. The crab cake appetizer sat on a salad with a vinegarette dressing. It had field greens, cucumbers, onions & thinly sliced carrots. It was delicious!

lunch: small salad under crab cakes, 1 crab cake, 2 quesadillas

I brought one slice of the quesadilla home because Mom only ate 1 of them.

Amy, your Halloween Party can't be as bad as I've been & the week isn't finished for me!

90 minute workout today - I feel like working out again!!!!! I did 45 minutes of circuit training and 45 minutes of cardio using my step and free weights.

dinner last night: 1 quesadilla, 3 slices of banana bread, cranberry juice

I made banana bread the easy way yesterday - I used a yellow cake mix and added bananas, egg whites and oil.

Because I didn't eat enough protein with dinner I was starving at 10pm and ate toast w/pnut butter & jam.

Today:
breakfast: cereal w/peaches and nonfat milk

Whoa!!! :scared1: You did splurge! But your body told you it didn't like it by feeling yucky (that's exactly how I was after the Chex mix incident!). Your clothes still fit, so that is a good thing! You will get back on track in no time, don't fret about what happened in the past! :goodvibes

Your workouts are looking great! :cheer2: Isn't is wonderful getting your energy back after being so strung out for a couple days?!? Keep it up with your 90 min per day and you will be pretty close to your goal for this month! Have you signed up for the Christmas challenge yet?!?

Hi Jane-

I'm glad you didn't suffer any damage from Wilma. Dad and his wife evacuated to Orlando where I think they still are. The last I heard they had no idea when their power would be back on.

It's great that you feel like working out again. Good for you on 90 minutes!!

Never ask why the size 12s fit, just go with it. :teeth:

Glad that you faired better than you could have with Wilma. But still very scary. Good for you for working out even when it might have been hard to. Every little bit helps. Keep up the good work!!

Keep on
Chris

food from yesterday:
snack: 1 slice of banana bread

lunch: 1 ham sandwich w/ lowfat cheese, cranberry juice, 2 mocha bars - I ate lunch early at 11:30am so by4pm I was getting hungry

snack: another ham sandwich w/lowfat cheese

dinner: 8:15pm - Met family at an Italian restaurant - 1 1/4 slices of bread, salad, 1/2 lasagna, 2 bites of tiramisu, 2 white zinfadels

Today:
breakfast: cereal w/diced peaches & lowfat milk

lunch: rest of lasagna

I'm planning on doing some yoga later on today.

Amy, I haven't signed up for another challenge yet. How's the Christmas one going? You've been doing an amazing job with your workouts. Congrats for hangin' in there! Currently, my big problem seem to be those darn food binges! Aaackk!

Frogmommy, I'm sorry to hear that your Dad still isn't back home. He's smart to stay out of there until electric is restored. In our town, most of the electric has been turned back on for those who lost it. Alot more people lost electric down by Miami so its going to take longer for their power to be restored. I hope they get to your Dad's house soon. Thanks for the advice about size 12!

Chris, it was & has been scary for the past year with all of these darn hurricanes but not nearly as scary as Amy's run in with a tornado!

You did GREAT at the Italian place! :cool1: Way to go for saving 1/2 your lasagne for lunch the next day!!! The exercise challenge is going good so far, however I was about 2 minutes into my lunchtime walk today when my work cell started ringing and I had to go chase some people down on an urgent issue (so no go on the walk today :guilty: ). But I still plan on doing a workout on DVD when I get home!!

The food binge thing will pass. It seems like I go through those spurts and then it finally gets better for a few weeks, then it hits again. It stinks, but I guess it will always be that way and we just have to deal with it and do our best!

You are doing great, keep it up!!! :cheer2:

I put back on 4lbs this week! :confused3 Ouch! I'm at 159 AGAIN! And its no wonder - I don't know who in the heck I think I am. I did the worst possible thing I could do - bought my Halloween candy early. Why did I think I could do that when I can't quit snacking on sweets. :guilty: The snack sized Snickers were very good - dh & I nibbled on them Fri, Sat & Sun.

On the bright side - if there is one - my workouts improved.

Friday: 15 min yoga and 15 min walking

Saturday: 90 minutes of working out - 45 min of circuit training & 45 minutes of cardio

Sunday: Day of rest so I can save up and eat more!!!! :guilty:

Monday: 60 minutes of walk/jogs

My eating for this weekend:

Friday night: ham sandwich,2 mocha bars, cranberry juice, 5 mini snickers

Saturday: skipped breakfast

lunch: ultra thin ham & lowfat cheese, 1 cranberry juice

dinner: dh brought home 1 rack of ribs which we split - I had 3 bones - he had the rest, 7 french fries, grape juice, 5 mini snickers

Sunday:

breakfast: breakfast burrito

snack: 2 mini snickers

lunch: 15 french fries, 1/2 glass of sprite
We took 17 year old son out for lunch - He picked the place. Of course, its all junk food - chix nuggets, wings, hotdogs, burgers etc. It was nice - we got to talk which we don't do at home. (He's always on the run.) We spent a 90 minute lunch discussing his school, goals, etc.

While we're eating lunch ds - cracked me up! He said, "Mom, you're getting thin. I thanked him then he asked how much more I was going to lose & he suggested, "5lbs". :rotfl2: He made my day!

dinner: 1/2 order of chix nachos, 2 Long Island Iced Teas

dessert: 6 mini Snickers

Today:
breakfast: eggwhite scrambler w/ham & lowfat cheese, 1/2 pear

lunch: ham, lowfat cheese, watermelon wedge, cinamon teddy graham packet, 2 Tootsie Pops

I went to the grocery store - bought MORE Halloween candy. This time I used some wisdom and bought lowfat snacks: tootsie pops & rolls. Of course, I'm a binging diva so I'm snackin' away but at least this time its lowfat stuff.

PS: I'm not changing my siggie yet - I'll give myself till next week to see if I have weightloss. At the very least this motivates me to lose the darn weight.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am SO glad I'm not the only 4lb winner this weekend!!! I bet your is mostly water as well and you are right to not change your clippie. What is up with us lately, WHERE is our motivation?!?!??! Let's get it back!!!!!! :cheer2:

What a cool compliment from your DS! Mine still says gems like "Are you going to have a baby? Your stomach is sticking out" That was a couple years ago (when I weighed even less than I do now!!)

BEWARE of the tootsie rolls and tootsie pops! That sucks me in every time. I end up eating WAY more than I should because I think they are less damaging. In fact, I've already eaten 3 tootsie rolls today and I am still at work! :rolleyes1 I still have to take the kids trick or treating AND sort through their candy! Hopefully the candy fascination wears off before this evening...

You'll get back on track and those 4 lbs will be gone before you know it! Congrats on kicking butt in the exercising department!

dinner: spinach salad w/ grilled chix, grilled red & green peppers, grilled onion, rigatoni, balsalmic vinagerette, olive oil & parmesan cheese

Halloween snack while handing out candy & watching TV: 5 Tootsie Pops and 12 Tootsie Rolls

Today:

30 minutes of yoga and 30 minute bike ride

Breakfast: eggwhites w/ham & lowfat cheese, watermelon wedge & a slice of banana bread

Dr. Perricone has a weightloss book out. I'll have to see if I can get it from the library. I read his wrinkle book - but I HATE salmon & thats his main recommendation.

My cat tried to kill me yesterday. I try to treat the cat the same as the dog but it just doesn't work. I've got the scars to prove it! Yesterday, I decided to take the dog along when I went to the post office. As we're leaving I thought maybe the cat would enjoy coming along too. WRONG! I had an armful of mail, my purse, keys, and the cat. We walk to the car, & I open the door. The cat totally panics. From my arms, she runs up my shoulder, hangs over my back, scratching the heck out of me. I drop her into the backseat. She promptly jumps to the front & out the door in two big jumps. Then I had to chase her down in the front yard. My back is full of scratches. Dh reminded me that everytime she goes in the car she ends up at the vet. I guess cats remember things like that. Anyway, no more car rides for her. My dog, however, had a great time. I've just got to start treating her like a cat. After 9 years of having a dog I'm set in my ways.

Amy, you're so right about those Tootsie Pops - I ate them all night long. As for your son's comment, don't ya just love kids? You never know what they'll say next.

I ate so much crap last night I am still not hungry today! I forced myself to eat breakfast and will force myself to eat lunch, but other than that, I don't think I will have a hard time avoiding sweets today...

Why do we torture ourselves like this?!? :confused3

Today starts a new month, we are going to get back on track! Come on Jane, let's do it! NO MORE JUNK starting today! Burn those Tootsie Rolls! Crush those Tootsie Pops! :cheer2:

Cats are crazy! I thought my puppy was bad, but I have met more than one psycho cat. :cat: At least most dogs grow out of the spaz stage! :goodvibes

Have you joined the Christmas Exercise challenge yet? Come on, let's get moving!!!

I could not get online today. For some reason there was no connection between the pc and online service. Ds came over tonight and fixed it for me. What a pain!

Yesterday's lunch: 1/2 homemade quesadilla, grape juice

Dinner: 1/2 homemade quesadilla, grape juice, 1 tootsie pop

snack: 1 tootsie pop, 1 tootsie roll, grape juice

10 minutes of yoga before bed

Today:
30 minutes of weights & 30 minutes of cardio

breakfast: eggwhites, ham, lowfat cheese, watermelon wedge, oj

lunch: LC turkey, stuffing & cinamon apples, grape juice

dinner: 1/2 rack of ribs, 1/2 serving baked beans, 4 bites of corn, 1/2 slice of garlic bread

Mom and I went out for an early dinner tonight. She took me to her favorite BBQ place that I've never been to before. Those early bird specials can't be beat - however, dh & I never seem to eat that early.

Last night I got out my pics from Christmas when I was at my heaviest. They are so depressing. It helped remind me why I need to lose more weight. I never thought that I looked as fat as I did. I just look at those and it takes away my desire to eat. I need to put them on the fridge but I'm too embarassed for someone else to see them.

I need to stick with the weightloss this time. Last time I hit got into size 8's, I maintained for about a year and then gained it all back. I need to take this seriously & get my weight down once and for all.

Put that picture on the fridge! Who cares who sees it? When someone sees it, they will see how much progress you have made!

You can keep the weight off this time. Look at how motivated you are at exercising (you are kicking my butt already for the Christmas challenge!). I think you now understand that this is a lifetime commitment and you will always have to be mindful of what you eat and make workouts a priority.

Great control with the candy - only 2 pieces today! Just take it day by day. You are doing great, keep it up! :cheer2:

Workout for today: 60 minutes of walk/jogs

I feel like jogging is the best exercise to get me into shape. Cardio wise I can handle it but I'm not too sure if my feet and knees can. I'd love to be able to do this 4X a week instead of just twice but I don't want to take any chances. Anyway I guess its better to mix up my program a bit. My backside still hurts from the bike ride the other day.

I missed breakfast this morning. While outside finishing up my workout I ran into my neighbor. She invited me in. While we were talking I realized I'd missed breakfast. By the time I got home it was lunch time. I hate doing that. Its such a bad habit.

lunch: Calories Fat
eggwhites 50 0
w/lowfat cheese, 35 2.0
peppers and onions 50

total for lunch: 135 2.0

Its such a royal pain but I'm going to add up my calories and fat grams. That way I know exactly how much I'm eating; otherwise, I tend to "lie" to myself and at the end of the day I'm way overboard on my food intake. I'm going to do it for the next two days and see how it goes. This weekend we're busy so I probably won't be able to get online.

My major food temptation lurking for me: dh & I are eating out with some friends this weekend - I'm hoping that they'll have a grilled chix salad w/no fat dressing. I'll have to remind myself that baked potatoes and bread are bad food. Grilled protein w/veggies are good.

I'm going to try not to add any unnecessary calories with juice, candy or other empty foods that my try to tempt me today.

Amy, maybe I'll put that picture INSIDE the fridge. I need all of the motivation I can get. The weekends coming up, & I've got to stay away from the Long Island Iced Teas. They're calorie killers. I'll have to sub with a glass of wine which isn't nearly as much fun.

Yes, put the pictures inside the fridge, pantry, bag of Tootsie Pops... Whatever it takes!

I think counting calories is a pain as well, but it has saved me from myself! It got me off my 2.5 month plateau. I know you said you didn't particularly like FitDay, but once you get all your fave foods plugged in, it is easy! It will be worth it, give it a shot! I think you can also buy the PC version for about $20 so you don't have to get online all the time. I think once you count every morsel that goes into your mouth, you will be :scared1: !!!

You can do it this weekend! :cheer2: :cheer2: Maybe instead of 2 Long Islands you can have 1 Long Island and 1 wine? It's all about moderation and compromise. Allow yourself 1 small piece of bread, but you're right - go heavy on the protein and veggies. If possible, find out where you are going and look up the menu. Make a selection before you get there and stick with it!

We can get through this weekend without gaining a single lb!!!

Since dh wasn't getting home until 7:30pm last night, my neighbor and I went out for dinner. I should have just gotten the grilled chix. However, the tilapia sounded good but I think I got more calories than I bargained for. I ordered the pecan crusted tilapia with an orange sauce. I should have known that anything with a crust can't be low cal. Then since I skipped breakfast I was hungry all evening. I felt like I messed up dinner so I may as well snack all night.

dinner: pecan tilapia, 2 pieces of brocolli, 1 bite of rice pilaf

snack: 3 tootsie pops, 2 snack sized bags of teddy grahams, hot chocolate, mocha bar

I have no idea the calorie count on the tilapia so I'm starting over!

Today's workout 30 minutes of bike riding & 30 minutes of yoga

I made sure to have breakfast this morning. I'm hoping that it will reduce my binging at night.

breakfast: eggwhite scrambler
egg whites: 50 0
ham: 40 1.0
lf cheese 35 2.0

Total for breakfast: 125 / 3.0

lunch: LC chix dinner 230 / 4.5

dinner: I made a pasta dish w/ ground turkey breast, diced onions, peppers, tomatoes, sauce & linguine 260 6.0

dessert - SO eclair 150 4.0
410 10.0

total : 775 / 17.5

Amy, the picture is on the fridge. I just popped it on with a magnet, figured I'd leave it up for the afternoon & then hide it in a drawer before dh gets home. If I do that several times a week the message should sink in. In spite of my mess up I did tell the waitress not to bring the homemade bread. They serve it with a spicy jelly & its so good - I knew I'd never be able to just eat one slice.

I may just end up using Fitday again. I liked being able to see my totals but I sure hated the time it took for me to enter things in there. You're right, Amy - this will be our NO pounds gained weekend.

Haven't you gotten rid of those Tootsie Pops yet? THROW THEM OUT!!!! I hate to be wasteful too, but they will drive you insane. Give them to some neighbor kids or something!! You can be that weird lady that is always handing out candy and cookies to the kiddies. I think every neighborhood has one...

You did good at dinner asking the waitress not to bring the bread! And I don't think the tilapia was as bad as you think, even with the coating and sauce. And yay for putting that picture on the fridge! I also think a copy in the bag o' candy would be a good idea...

FitDay is a pain at first, but now most of my stuff is in there and easy to plug in. I am also so obsessed with it I plan out my days in advance and print them out so I can check everything off as I eat it...

Your workouts are AWESOME! I think you are going to have to up your goal - you are going to pass it by the end of the month at the rate you are going! :cheer2: We are going to be successful this weekend! Not a single lb will be gained and your 4 lbs of Halloween weight will be gone! WE CAN DO IT!!!

I get the night nibbles too! Though that may be understating it a little as I don't think anyone could call 1/2 a pizza a nibble! :rotfl2:

I hope you find a strategy that works for you to avoid them--trial and error is the best way to go. Something will eventually click.

Have a wonderful rest of the weekend! :goodvibes

Hi Jane-

I agree with Amy, I bet the tilapia wasn't as bad as you think. Hey, at least pecans are good for you, even if they are a little high in fat.

BTW, my Dad and his wife are back home. Their power was back on sometime last weekend.
