Jane E.'s Fitness Journal

My weekend was a mixture of bad and good. Friday night we were invited out for dinner with friends & family. Then afterwards 6 of us got together for cards. Dh & I both had to work Saturday so we just chilled out. For Sunday lunch we visited a relative that lives about 2 hours away. Then for Sunday dinner ds and his wife came over.

Friday night: I ordered spaghetti with meatballs and sausage. I ate 1/4 of my salad, 2 meatballs, 1 sausage & just a couple bites of spaghetti. I ate 1/3 of my cake - actually I ate the top with the chocolate frosting!, also 2 white zinfadels. While playing cards I didn't touch the chips - just sipped on water all night.

Saturday: cereal with fat free milk, oj, 1/2 peach
lunch: LC meal, fudge bar
dinner: LC meal, fudge bar, cranberry juice

Sunday:
breakfast: cereal w/fat free milk
lunch: Fried CHIX!!!, a bite of nachos, 6 french fries, one coke
dinner: taco salad, cranberry juice, fudge bar

Go Tampa Bay Bucs!!!!!!

Monday:
breakfast: 1 banana
lunch: LC Thai Chix, oj
dinner: I making chix fajitas tonight. The chix is cooking - I'll just have to saute the onions & green peppers.

50 minute workout: 20 minutes of free weights & 30 minutes of cardio

Pealique, the exploding ball was funny but it must've scared QT to death! She doesn't have stitches that come out. She had the kind that dissolve. She ended up with a hard knot just under her incision, because of all the jumping she did when she was supposed to take it easy. The vet said it was fluid accumulation. It scared me though.

Chris, yes I loved going shopping even if it is still a size 14. I went to Avenue which sells 14 & up. My salesgirl said, "you're almost too small to shop in here." That made me feel good, but I love their clothes & I'll miss shopping there when I finally hit the 12s! Its nice to know that there's a fellow chocoholic on the boards! You're class must think you're the best teacher in the world for bringing them chocolate!

Amy, I'm back on track & trying to catch up with my workouts. I did 50 minutes today. Dh & I used to walk on the beach or hike out at the state park. I can't get him to do that anymore. That would certainly help with my dismal workout minutes!

Today I woke up and did a 20 minute bike ride and 10 minutes of yoga. I've gotta increase those minutes.

breakfast: tuna with cocktail sauce

Come on, you can get those exercise minutes up! You are almost halfway there! Don't you want to be LIME??? There are 10 days left in the month. If you get in an extra 20 minutes today, you can do 50 minutes everyday until the end of Sept and meet your goal! Of course this is assuming you have no life and nothing better to do than exercise... :goodvibes

Those chicken fajitas sound yummy!!!! I made ham steak w/apple butter last night. It was the first time I'd ever cooked (or eaten) a ham steak! It was actually quite good, even the finicky kids liked it!

You are doing awesome, I'm glad you are back on track! You will be back in the 150's in no time! :cool1:

Amy, thanks for coachin' me! I needed that. I woke up this morning and decided to get in 90 minutes. I did about 30 minutes of light weights and 60 minutes of cardio with a little help from Earth, Wind & Fire! I'm feeling better.

Warning! Don't every buy WW cookie & cream icecream bars. They taste so delicious I couldn't quit eating them! I had 5 yesterday. I started out with 1 for dessert at lunch and didn't quit until dessert with dinner. The fudge & mocha bars don't do that to me.

lunch: LC turkey dinner, banana, icecream bar
ice cream bar
ice cream bar
ice cream bar

dinner: 2 chix fajitas
ice cream bar

midnight snack at 9pm (gotta stop this!!!): 1/2 slice of bread w/peanut butter & jam

Last night after dinner I made a mexican casserole with all of the fajita leftovers for dh. I baked it last night around 9pm so I don't have to deal with it today. When he gets home, I'll just microwave his plate for him.

I haven't eaten yet, today. I'm afraid to after yesteday's fiasco. I've been keeping busy all day so I'm not tempted. THis weekend I work & I've deliberately not made any plans for the weekend. I'm really eating much better than I did a year ago. Yesterday, Pizza Hut sent me my coupons in the mail. Last year I got a free pizza almost every single month. This year I haven't gotten one. I used to order pizzas every Friday when both sons were home & I always ate my fair share. I think just dropping pizza from my weekly menu has helped.

Yesterday, I developed a horrible pain in my achilles tendon. I can't figure out what caused it. My workout yesteday was not strenuous - bike riding & yoga. I woke up, worked out, did housework & ran some errands. When I came home from the errands my foot was aching so badly I couldn't do any work standing up. I ended up resting my foot all afternoon on the couch. That didn't help me with my food frenzy yesterday. Generally, I try to keep moving during the day so I'm not tempted. The pain lasted all evening. Today, I woke up without any pain but after my workout & housecleaning today it started up but not as bad as yesterday. I hope this gets better before our trip to Disney. I love walking & walking around Disney is one of my favorite exercises. We walk so much when we get there that I usually don't worry about my food consumption.

Just finished 15 minutes of yoga. I felt stiff from all the exercise so I did 15 minutes to stretch out and increase my exercise minutes for the month.

dinner - 5pm: 1/3 can of tuna w/cocktail sauce, green tea

I fixed the Mexican casserole for dh at 8:30pm. It smelled so good. I really want some. I've promised myself that if I don't have any tonight I can eat some for breakfast in the morning. Dh said it was really HOT! I gave him ice cold watermelon to counteract the heat in the casserole.

The wine festival is coming up quickly. I don't want to be walking around Disney at the weight I currently am. I have to keep reminding myself that I need to set my goals & make sure I achieve them!

I managed to avoid the wicked Mexican casserole last night. The first thing I thought of this morning is that I can have a piece of it, but I really didn't want any. My cravings start in the afternoon and get worse until bedtime.

This morning I woke up and immediately put on my workout clothes. I did 45 minutes of walk/jogs. Then I came in and did 50 minutes of yoga. I'm not sure what to have for breakfast yet.

I got David Kirsch's book from the library. Talk about a tough program! While I'm not doing his program exactly, I've used it for motivation. I'd been getting bored with my workouts. Reading his book inspired me to crank up my workouts a notch. He had 18 exercises in the preprogram phase. Whew! Those in addition to some of my other weight exercises has me sore. I usually use weights between 5 & 10lbs for my workouts. Since his exercises were tough I decreased the pounds to 2lbs. After finishing his exercises I went back to doing some of my usual weight exercises using a 5lb weight. My arms are sore today.

Yesterday I got my hair CUT! I've known the lady who cut my hair for several years. She's an excellent hair stylist. However, I asked to leave the length & just add some layers. I don't know what happened to her. She was like a stylist possessed & when it was all over - I had short hair; albeit with lots of layers! Dh was not happy; however, my mom loves the cut!

Here's to having a great day & eating well!

WOW!!! :scared1: You have really kicked it up in the exercise department! I bet you will make your goal, that is awesome! I hope your foot feels better. Just be sure to stretch really good. Last year DD's soccer coach tore his achilles. NOT a pretty injury...

Congrats on avoiding the mexican casserole! I have been staying away from frozen confections, I just have no control. Have you tried the chocolate Creme Savers? I also like the Werthers or butterscotch. 3 of them are 60 calories and you can space them out whenever a sweet attack hits. I suck on them so they last a while. It works for me, although I am so sad when I eat the last scheduled one for the day... :guilty:

You are on the right track for getting into Disney and wine festival shape. Keep it up and stay away from the freezer!!! :goodvibes

PS, I'm sure your hair looks great - the most important thing is do YOU like it? ;)

Amy, I have a friend who swears by the Creme Savers. In fact it was at her house I first had one. I can't stop with one though. I'd eat about 10 at a time so I gave up on those. The mocha bars seem to work for me - but no more cookies & cream bars.

I did it!!!!! I'm 157 lbs!!! I weighed on Sunday at 159lbs, Tuesday at 160lbs (but at another grocery store - not my usual one), and today at 157! I'm taking it!!!! I'm changing my siggie to 1/5.

I love the layers in my haircut but I did want it just a tad bit longer. It looks great when its dry - but at the beach I'll probably look like a drowned rat!

breakfast: protein drink

YAY on the 157!!!!!!!! :cheer2:  That was on the same scale you usually use, so that is the one that counts! It must be all that extra exercise! ;)

I take 3 Creme Savers or Butterscotch or Werthers out when I get home from work, and when they are gone, they are gone! I usually eat one while I'm making dinner, one right after dinner and the other one about 8pm. It took me several weeks of rationing them out to actually be able to stick to the scheduled number. I used to eat about 6 per night... :guilty: If the mocha bars work for you, stick to those! Whatever keeps you from snacking!!!

And don't worry - your hair will be just the right length in 1-2 weeks!

Thanks Amy!!! I can't believe that I'm in size 12!

lunch: 6 shrimp with lemon and cocktail sauce

dinner: 10 shrimp w/lemon and cocktail sauce, asparagus roasted in olive oil - I used too much olive oil :guilty: - My recipe called for 1 1/2 lbs of
asparagus- I had just under 1lb & used 3T of oil oil. Talk about clogging my
arteries!

Yum, I love shrimp! I'm having some tonight!

I have to share a haircut horror story, since you just had one... I took my DS9 to the barber that DB usually takes him to (I had a spare moment between his orthodontist and tennis) and told him the SAME THING I always told the ladies at his other hair cutting place. So I went to the restroom and came back out and about choked on my tongue - he had a total buzz cut!!!! He looks like a mini-Marine. I was SO MAD!!!! Obviously something was lost in the translation... So DS9 is freaking out, saying that he is going to wear a hat to school forever. I told him he looks like an Army guy and now he loves his haircut and wants to keep it that way (he is obsessed with anything Army). The worst part is that school pictures are on Oct 7 and there is NO WAY it is going to grow out that much by then! ARGH, what can you do?!?

Sorry to sidetrack, you are doing great with all of your exercising and those Size 10's are right around the corner! Don't buy too many 12's!!! :goodvibes

Here's to a successful, healthy eating weekend! :wizard:

Amy, my seventeen year old son has been getting buzz cuts since he turned 14! When he was young he had blonde baby fine hair - it was so cute. Now, its brown & buzzed off every few weeks. He doesn't look like the little boy I remember. A few months ago my friend's teenaged son dyed his hair BLACK! This was a kid who was fair & blonde. It was the worst hair disaster I've ever seen! I hope your son's pics turn out ok for school. What was that barber thinking?

midnight snack at 8pm: 3 bites of Mexican casserole - that I'd fixed for dh, the last cookie & cream bar & 4 dove chocolates

Last evening dh & I went for a 25 walk on the beach - it was horrible. Dead fish & dead sand dollars everywhere! I don't know if its the red tide or the hurricanes or perhaps a combination of the two. It was depressing. I haven't been able to swim this year yet because we've had red tide since May!

I slept in today - its my day "off" since I work this weekend.

45 minutes of weight/core training
20 minutes of cardio
along with the walk from last night - I've got 90 more minutes!

I skipped breakfast - I know its a bad habit. They say that the people who skip breakfast are the same ones who snack at night.

lunch: 10 shrimp w/lemon and cocktail sauce

I ache all over from the past three days of working out! Now wonder why its only a 14 day program - no one could live past that with this workout/eating schedule!

Weekends are tough for me! Saturday dh and I both worked. When he came home he asked if I wanted to go out or if I wanted to have shrimp for dinner. There was no way I wanted shrimp. We ended up going out. I had two long islands & 1/2 an order of chix fajita nachos. Saturday at work we made homemade muffins and the cook made choc chip cookies. At work I had a muffin top & three choc chip cookies, breakfast was a lean cuisine meal & so was lunch.

Sunday
breakfast: one lean pocket breakfast sandwich, oj
snack: one choc chip cookie
lunch: LC meal, oj
snack 3 choc chip cookies
dinner: chix taco salad, 4 Dove chocolates, cran/rasp juice

This weekend was tough. I went overboard with the cookies & choc. Then in the workout book I'm reading, the first thing I read today is: "Do you think you deserve a choc chip cookie because of all the hard work you've done? Why pick on something that will ruin your diet. Why not pick something that will contribute to your diet." (My paraphrased version of it.) It really made me think twice of how I eat on the weekend.

This weekend I did 20 minutes of cardio.

Today I did 45 minutes of weight/core workout & 25 minutes of cardio.

I was going to have a protein drink for breakfast - but I have to mix it with water & I couldn't drink it. Yeck! If I can mix them with juice or milk and fruit I'm fine - but the water is just too awful for me.

Guess I'll have a salad with chix for lunch.

Yes, weekends are killer! You didn't do THAT bad!! You are still doing way better than you were a couple months ago, right?!?! You just have to retrain your brain. ONE cookie is OK to get rid of your craving, 4 is overkill... Yes, this is coming from the Queen Hypocrite who cannot stay away from the PB Toast Crunch! And I'm sure you'll be saying the same thing to me after I've gained 5 lbs from the 4 tubs of cookie dough that will be delivered next week... Like my DB said this weekend - what good is being thin if you can't enjoy life? Just get back into the groove this week. I've found that my weekends are less and less destructive these days, and it looks like yours are too! :goodvibes You are still doing really good, keep it up!

Your muffin top reminded me of Seinfeld - where Elaine talks that baker into opening a muffin top store - remember that one?!? :rotfl:

You are only 145 minutes away from your exercise goal! You can do it! :cheer2:

Amy, I thought the same thing as I was eating my muffin top! I really miss that show. Thats one of the few sitcoms that I've seen every episode about 5X.

Stay away from that cookie dough! :guilty: By the time those cans arrive at your house - you'll be in such good shape that you won't be tempted.

Last night I had a LC chix dinner, rasp/cran juice - and a mocha bar for snack and one for dessert.

Today I did yoga for 45 minutes and walked for 10 minutes.

breakfast: 1 C of canteloupe, green tea & orange juice

I watched 15 minutes of Oprah when Jennifer Aniston was on. Oprah complimented her physique and asked her how she got into such good shape. Jennifer answered that doing yoga 3X a week got her into shape! That did it for me! I'm going to stick with this yoga stuff if it works that well.

I was very impressed with Ozzy Osbournes son in a recent magazine article. He has completely restructed his bod. That kid is in awesome shape. He said he gets up early & runs, rock climbs, works out & eats healthy. He's so tired from his workouts that he's in bed by 9pm or so. He said he used to go to bed about 4am and wake up at 4pm. He has totally changed his life. Apparently, he did all of this for a British TV program where he does daring stuff like rock climbing etc. Whatever reason he did it - it worked!

If that is only 1/2 true, I will be ecstatic! I'll take either half - either being in good shape OR not being tempted!!! :teeth:

You are doing great Jane, you should be so proud of yourself! I tried Yoga once and didn't like it. I prefer Pilates. Have you tried that? There is an awesome DVD I got from Blockbuster Online - Pilates Sculpt. It still kicks my butt and I've done it quite a bit!

Keep it up, the Wine Festival will be here before you know it!

Jane - sorry you've had some food hurdles to climb but that's a good thing to know about the WW ice cream bars - I'll make sure I stay away from them. You are doing great making sure you are getting exercise in - that is awesome!!! Keep up the good work and you'll be down more before you know it!

Keep on
Chris

Amy, I used to do Pilates several times a week. I have a video - Pilates - Target Specifics that I bought for $6.99 about 3 years ago. It focuses on abs, legs, arms & hips. Each segment is 15 minutes so what I generally did was to do one or two sections at a time - alternating my pilates days with my weight workout days. After doing the program off and on for a year I got bored with the program and found that I actually like yoga better for now. However, every once in awhile I'll do some pilates just to mix things up a bit.

Chris, I couldn't believe how delicious those WW cookie ice cream bars were. I'm sticking with Healthy Choice Mocha Bars from now on. They are good but not so good I can't control my eating.

Today I did a 60 minute walk/jog.

breakfast: we're out of fruit so dh & I split a few canteloupe & honey dew pieces - I probably had about 1/4C. I've got to get to the grocery store.

I just weighed in at the grocery store - I'm still 157!

Hi Jane

Sounds like you're continuing to do well. Love that fruit for breakfast.

Just stay away from the cookie dough! :goodvibes

You are doing awesome on your exercising! You are going to make your goal, way to kick it up at the end!!!

I hope I did not pass you the curse of the stuck weight... :scared1:
