We will be in WDW the weekend of the marathon. I did not know about it when I planned our trip, but have seen it mentioned here on the boards. Where is the marathon held and is it both Sat and Sun? We just want to avoid the crowds if we can. Thanks.

For the first time, a half marathon will be held Saturday. On Sunday is a full marathon.
The races start and end early. You may not notice any difference.
I wouldn't worry. The crowds are low that time of the year.

The half marathon is on Sat and the full is on Sunday. Both start at 0600 outside of Epcot and the half goes through MK and then back to Epcot. The full goes through Epcot, MK, AK, MGM, and then back to Epcot. It's got a 7 hour time cutoff but will probably affect travel just about anywhere on property until afternoon Sunday. The post-race party/awards ceremony is Sunday evening at DTD/PI. Hope this helps with your planning.

Do you happen to have the time for the awards ceremony? Trying to time ADR around the ceremony but BIL hasn't found paperwork w/ time yet.

5 pm- awards ceremony
7 pm- post race celebration begins
According to the schedule on the Disney Endurance site. We haven't recieved our race packets yet, they are supposed to come in the next couple of weeks so that may be why BIL couldn't find the paper.

xterrati - do you have experience w/ the awards ceremony.
We have ADR's for Planet Hollywood for 5:45.
Looks like we may need to change. What do you think?

OMG we have ADRs for Planet Hollywood at 5:45 also. I just told DH maybe we should change them. Looking for someone with marathon experience to advise us. Also the 7 PM post celebrations - are they mostly adult oriented. We will have two dds (6 and 8) and ds (5) with us. Should we plan on just staying for the awards and eating after that? Thanks.

We were planning to do Epcot on Sun, is this a good idea?

The marathon starts and ends outside Epcot in the parking lot. The runners go through Epcot at 6AM and as they finish (coming from the Boardwalk). They start finishing as early at about 8:30AM and continue finishing until 1PM.

So it sounds like Sat won't really be a problem, and it is probably safe to go to MK on Sun since that is the first park they run through and should be out of there by the time the park opens. We have an ADR at CRT at 2:30 that Sun so we were planning on going to MK that day anyway.

Good luck to all the runners! :shamrock:

Been there for during the Marathon last two years, and honestly I wouldn't worry at all about it. It doesn't much impact crowds at any of the parks. There are some detours on the highway, but really no big deal

Runners have 3.5 hours to get halfway through the marathon. That's about after they leave the MK, go past the GF and are headed over to AK. So by 9:15AM, all runners should be through the MK.
