I cant believe I am having a hard time getting what I want for the 2nd and 3rd week of jan. Trying to go the 7th-19th and all I want is a studio! SSR is the only place that has the entire length open. I was hoping to do boardwalk. Standard view only has like 2 days of that entire stay open :guilty: I did no think a studio in jan would be any trouble...live and learn I guess. Now to decide just want I want to do. I really hate moving during a stay, but I may have to unless I just stay at SSR.

A studio anywhere will be difficult because of low points and the fact that the marathon falls into that time period. It actually might be easier to book a 2 bedroom.

 did not know that....what days?

My experience is that standard view anytime at BWV can be difficult! I don't think that has ever been open when I called for a reservation. That one books up quick!

It's usually the first Saturday and Sunday after New Year's. That is the 6th and 7th next year.

well I got myself waitlisted for boardwalk standard view so I will keep my fingers crossed and booked the first night for SSR and the rest for OKW.

wish me luck :wizard:

We booked Jan 3rd to 12 2007 at VWL studio, 11 months out.

We called at 7 months out to change to BCV and have been on the wait list ever since. The issue is the marthan weekend.

Last year we were at SSR that weekend, it was only place we could get at the time we made the ressies (I can't remember when, maybe 5 months out.)

SSR was so quiet and nice. You would never know know place was "full" infact I don't think anyone was in the one bedroom next to us the whole time.

The marathon also caused us no problems or issues that trip. It wasn't too busy or crowded, but it did get chilly so pack accordingly.

I don't think we are going to get our wait list for BCV, but VWL is a pretty nice place to stay in Jan (we did Jan 2004).

I like SSR, (we have stayed there twice now) but it does seem like the only option if you don't book at 11 months, or at least wait list at 7 months. Not happy about that, but I don't think it is SSR fault and it is a nice place. My kids love the pool there.

I liked SSR when I was there last year, but I was hoping to stay at boardwalk just to be close to 2 parks, but if i dont get that, then the OKW makes the most point ($$) sense for me if you know what I mean.

Hadnt given it much thought about the crowds in jan, assumed they wouldnt be bad. Where does the marathon go? And as for packing, that was/is indeed an issue. Who can tell what the weather in jan will be :confused3 I'll just keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best

These dates also include the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, which is Monday, Jan 15, 2007. Kids out of school and a holiday from work means a three day weekend, and a three day weekend always means crowds at Disney.

We try to go the last week of Jan most years, but in '05 we went the 8th to the 16th, due to my BIL being in the marathon. With the marathon the first weekend of our trip and MLK weekend the second weekend of our trip, the crowds were heavier than we are used to later in Jan.

We are staying at SSR on Jan 7th and then moving to BWV from the 8th to the 12th. When I made the ressie a few weeks ago I was told that I could do SSR for the entire stay (studio or one bedroom) or mix a preferred and standard view at BWV (either studio or one bedroom). We've stayed at SSR before and really liked it but we want to try BWV so it just worked out to split the stay. I can't remember why I didn't just book a studio at BWV for the first night and then move to a one bedroom :confused3 Maybe I should call and see if we can change that. But anyway, yeah, it isn't easy to book a standard room at BWV no matter what the room type it seems. We've tried for each trip and this is the closest we have gotten. We are waitlisted for BWV for the first night in a one bedroom (same as the rest of the trip). I'm beginning to doubt that we will get it but I am keeping my fingers crossed. :wave2:

dang forgot about the holiday as well :rotfl: oh well next jan trip I plan, will definitely be for the last 2 weeks to avoid this again...crowded disney is still better than no disney

As for weather, January is probably one of the most unpredictable months. Best advice, be prepared for 75 days & be prepared for 55 days as it could be in the upper 70s one day and 50 the next.

DH laughed at me because I was so cold I bought Mickey gloves last year but we also had 1-2 good pool days.

I wore my leather coat and wished I had my hat and mittens. We did get in the pool some days, and it was up to 80 on some days. It was cold most mornings and nights.

Packing in Jan takes so much more room, because you need to be prepared for vareity and cold weather cothes takes up so much more room then warm.

You know I asked that same question about the pools being heated ... I was told they are!! I won't find our until Sept next year :cloud9: but that is OK I have my trip to jamaica and one to DL to keep my occupied until then :cool1:

Don't bet on getting a 2BR. We have a studio and 2 1BR's booked for Jan. 6-12. I wanted to change the studio and a 1BR to a 2BR and didn't even care if it was preferred points. They did not have it available for all six nights. I had no idea it was marathon weekend, but that's the only week we can go due to the kids going back to college on the 15th. Are the parks crowded the whole week or just on the weekend?

^ I am starting to think there is no such thing as a slow time at disney anymore. I think they have 3 levels now: Busy, REAL Busy, Insanely Busy :)

the 3 times I was down last year, it seemed crowded all 3 times (early June, mid Oct, mid nov)

we are going jan 14th to the 19th and have 3 standard studios and a standard 2 bedroom. sorry for that !! we are celebrating my 50th !! hopefully the weather will be nice. never been in jan but the points are much less, since we are taking care of all the ressies. I better get some good gifts !!

Exactly. :thumbsup2

You kinda just have to surrender to it. If you get there & crowds are lower than you expected then all the better. If not, at least you were mentally prepared.

I used to stress over the crowd issue big time :scared1: . I think one of the advantages of DVC is that we know we will be back soon so we stopped trying to do EVERYTHING on EVERY trip.

We love our DVC! :cloud9:
