Jan. 29, 2012 Dream cruise

i would think that a port day that the nursery may be fairly open...most people will go out to port, i would guess probably only 25-30% of the boat will pretty much stay onboard

There are many people that go on excursions and leave the little ones in the Nursery on port days so they may not be as empty as one would think. We left DD onboard from when she was 5-11 and never felt that she missed anything by not going into port.

You might be under-estimating how many people will stay on the ship for most of the day or a good part of the day, it's pretty high in Nassau. We'll only get off the ship in the morning to wander around, pick up our free stuff in the shops and then come back on board in time for lunch and then stay on board. But then that all depends on how high the percentage of cruisers are repeat cruisers, and repeat cruisers to Nassau.

Thanks for the warm welcomes!! I was going to book a bunch of activities to do in Nassau and castaway cay, But considering this is me and my partners first cruise ever, we decided to take it as it comes! We did book dinner at palo and the glass bottom boat tour!! I've been doing a ton of research to get a feel of what to pack and sights to see, one thing I could not wait to do was order a gift basket from my dear friend Shirley at the perfect gift!! It will be nice to have some items aboard the ship before I get there! Lol. Anyone have any other suggestions for a first time cruiser??

What type of suggestions are you looking for?

I think you are doing the right thing by just wanting to take it as it is being this is your first cruise. This will be our 2nd on the Dream and last time we didn't get to see a lot of the ship, so this time we will want to explore more and maybe do the detective hunt.
Although, it didn't take DD long to find the snack buffet in The District each evening. She came to dinner one night with a plate of mozzarella sticks she found there. So each night before dinner she'd stop and get a little snack and then after dinner we'd stop by and see what else they had out - loved it when there were chocolate covered strawberries left.

Other places to find snacks - Cove Cafe on deck 11, adults only; Vista Cafe on deck 4, open to all. The snacks are in a cooled glass case and it's self-serve and no extra charge. The snacks can change during the day, usually there's little gourmet cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, a variety of mini sandwiches. Every so often you can find mini cheese plates there too.

I think we mentioned a dead line of Wed(all thought there weren't any nays or yays) , so you are good in that aspect. I have enough for 10 families, so I would be happy to drop off a gift for you even if some of the others participants can't manage. Hopefully, they will have a chance to get back to this thread and confirm they can accommodate you.

Please leave your stateroom number if you have it.

I remember a post from your daughter. She is a lovely girl.

Thank you so much. My daughters and I so enjoy buying and making the FE gifts. Our stateroom #9006 and 9008 and we are:

Thanks again and can't wait until the 29th!:yay:

Hi all! Hope you don't mind that I updated the list with our Disboard names (if you have one). I just wanted to be able to thank the appropriate people after the cruise...and sometimes its easier to remember Dis names. Just finished my prototype for the FE....and it came out better than expected!

Candy is more than welcome...even though I am not bringing my kids on this cruise!

I think it's a great idea to put our cabin numbers (in case they change) and our Dis names on our FEs!

Still trying to decide if I want to do anything in Nassau...may just stay on the boat and enjoy the ship...and the Aquaduck!!

FYI those staying overnight in Port Canaveral may want to reprice your stay. I had originally priced at both the Radisson and Country Inn & Suites. I was going to go with the Radisson Park and Cruise package but the Country Inn & Suites price dropped for their Park and Cruise so now it is closer to that of the Radisson. Before the difference for the one night was almost fifty dollars. I figured that was money I could spend on the ship or at the World since we are going to POFQ after the cruise. Since CIS has better reviews, is newer, and includes breakfast I'll go there. It dropped more than $20 since I looked a few weeks ago.

Hey all. Just saw a bunch of you are staying in cape canaveral. If you need any advice on where to eat or what to do, I live locally and can tell you what's around!! I will say if you are dining out, there is one place I do not recommend FISHLIPS!! Horrible food!!!

That's good to know, I was considering this restaurant. Where would we get better food and have sea or port view?
Thanks for your help!

Rustys has great food!! And a new remodeled patio. I go there often with Pete and Walter when they are in town!! Grills is also amazing and has a very extensive menu! Both of them are located in port canaveral! Affordable, great service and great food!

Oh there is also a hidden treasure in the port called auddinos Italian bakery!!! A must for something sweet or their fresh homemade bread is incredible!!!

Thank you for the advice. Last fall Fish Lips was recommended and a group of us met there, they had the worst food and the service was dismal at best.

Yeah. There are so many places that are way better. Rustys and grills are my favorites!!! I highly recommend them!! The have amazing views of the ships!

I know it's last minute, but we would love to join the FE.:worship:

I have enough for 10 families, so I can cover you if I take us out of our own equation (which isn't a problem). Plus it's still Wed. ;)

I can't speak for anyone else but a few people said they can cover 10 families- minus themselves - you would be the 10th family on the list. (There is one family with 2 state rooms- but other than the gifts for the kids, I listed them as one group)

I see many of the new joiners are from FLA.
Please give me some recommendations for nice places for people with small kids to eat near the Embassy suites near MCO. Not to mention, if anyone is staying there....pm me for an extra meet up during the managers cocktail reception. ;)

I might be a Floridian but I live eight hours or so from WDW so I am absolutely no help with that question. Sorry.

As far as the new addition to the FE I feel the same, it is still Weds. :) I have been over estimating on my supplies so adding you sounds good to me.

On a side note, I am counting the group with the two staterooms as one for my one per stateroom gift too since it is one family. I was curious if I was the only one doing that.

I can accommodate all families. I just wish I had chosen smaller gifts, it looks as if I might have to leave a few pairs of shoes behind :scared1:.
Our problem isn't the plane but the rental car. My husband says it's to small for all the suitcases I wanted to take with us.
So my biggest gift to you is wearing mismatched outfits in order to bring all the FE gifts .

Thanks, Rob, we will try Rustys:love:

You will love it! The Gorgonzola bread appetizer is a must!! :cheer2:

I need to go to the craft store for more supplies anyway.....so I would be more than happy to send an FE gift to your cabin!

Glueing...cutting....painting....I am having fun making "stuff!"

It's supposed to be 82 degrees this weekend....hope the same weather is here on the 29th! Would love to get right on the Aquaduck!!

I am going to have to opt out of the Champagne tasting....I am a "froo-froo" drinker....only mixed slushie drinks for me. I would get teased all the time when I was younger because I only drank wine coolers! Ha! I think I did have a few sips of champagne at my own wedding, but that is about it. I am sure you all will have fun!!

I sure hope so! Although we've had a mild winter so far, it was 10 degrees this morning....I could really...really...use some warmth!!!!
