Jan. 22- 29 , 2011 Western Caribean Cruise on the Disney Magic!!!

I was in NO WAY talking about you! NO WAY! NEVER! I was refering to the thread on the main boards of people threatening to cancel their trip because of the KSF offer! I mean cummon! Its DISNEY! People traveling with kids usually have no problems with extra kids in my experiences but it seemed like the people complaining were traveling without kids. I really don't know what people expect from a FAMILY CRUISE LINE! Sorry, this subject just irritates me. :(

Ha! I was behind on reading the main thread and hadn't noticed this until after my last post - glad you weren't talking about me then! :rotfl: That thread was an...um...interesting read.

We currently have Disney transfers booked from MCO, but I have seen a few posts about people booking the private car so they can make a stop for bottled water (and other beverages!) Is bottled water not included on the cruise? Is the tap water nasty? I'm pretty tolerant of most flavours - just throw a lemon in and I'm fine as long as it's cold - but others in my travel party might not be. I'm considering the private transfer anyways, as it would be cheaper for our group of 8, but the kids got a real kick out of the cheesy "Welcome to Disney" movie they showed on the WDW hotel bus, and I think seeing one for the cruise would get them more excited. Any thoughts?

If I could get my kids to wear bibs still, maybe I could get away with no laundry! They aren't exactly the neatest eaters... :)

It was funny reading this and looking at my "11 yr old" Daughter and seeing she has Nutella all down the front of her shirt....lol.

I am HOPING I don't need to do laundry onboard but I am bringing some of my Purex 3 in 1 sheets just in case.

I have never traveled before and I booked Transportation through Disney so Hubby and I are just going to grab some water the night before when we have free time after supper. There HAS to be something open late around the airport. If not, he told me not to worry about it. My biggest problem is I don't like tap water. Where we live it is very awful and I stick to bottled and it has become my bad habbit. I guess it's better (and cheaper) than smoking.

Anyone know what kinds of stores are around the Hyatt Airport? We are probably going to shop a bit after we eat then let the kids hang out at the pool till bed time. Not that I can see any of us actually sleeping...lol. I also need to find a restaraunt that can cater to gluten free customers. Any ideas?

I like the idea of a meet t-shirt! We did that on our last cruise. Here is what we had on the back of the shirts:

stamp3.jpg

And on the front we had castmember nametag pins we ironed on. Here's a picture of those:

Cruisepix081.jpg

Got lots of questions about those. The DH thought the name tags were dorky and says he doesn't want those again, but he wears the darn shirt a lot...vv:confused3

I did do some laundry then 2 just a couple of loads so I wouldn't have so much to do at home and didn't want to mix dirty clothes in with clean. It wasn't bad. Sent the hubster & kids out for breakfast, ordered room service and relaxed with a book in between checking on the laundry. Too bad it doesn't work like that at home! :sad2:

hey all -

trying to answer a couple of things.
I am an early riser, so I'm sure I can squeeze in some laundry before the majority wake up and clog the laundry rooms. I used to hate the idea of doing laundry during a trip but like someone else said, with 3 little ones, it can be unavoidable and sure does help make packing a lot easier! When we go to the beach for 9 days, I pretty much just take about 4 days worth of clothes for each person and do a small load every single day.
Sounds terrible but it actually is much easier that way than how I do it at home!

As for transfers to the port, do check rates on Happy Limo and others because for a big group (even just for us, with 5) it is much cheaper to get a private driver than take the DCL buses. Plus, we can't use them on the way over anyway because it is only available the day of sailing and we are coming in the day before.. We do plan to ask for a quick stop at Publix or another place if we think of any last minute stuff or decide to get water. I keep reading that the water on board is GREAT, so mostly I just plan to bring a stainless steel water bottle for each of us and just use that during the trip. DH said he'll decide in Key West if he wants to bring any beer on board...

I'm not sure I can get my whole family to agree to the group t-shirts, lol. I got major flack for trying to make them all wear matching PJs for a Christmas card photo a few years back! But Kelli yours look fantastic and Lynn, the design you came up with is really neat!

I do like the idea of meet T-shirts, however Hubby and I already bought 4 very different Mickey shirts to wear onboard so that we weren't matching but had the same basic theme... MICKEY! My husband is golfing this weekend but I will see what he thinks about the meet shirts when he comes home. He has this about being "twinsies...".

Tinker

Your shirt is soo cute looks like a postage stamp.
Can i print that out and use it for a magnet.

Speaking of magnets......Did i read somewhere we are doing a magnet game.
:rotfl2:
Trying to keep all this straight in my head....and it is so full of nonsense up there already.

ANY guys or Hubbies, do any cigar smoking?
My DH likes to do the cigar thing on vacation....doesnt do it at home but he gets a kick out of it for some reason on vaca......so what ever, last time he found some guys to smoke with after dinner most nights.

Also, we always try to join up with someone for dinner as we dont like to eat alone...........tried it once on a 7 night and by night 3 we didnt have much to talk about to each other...The kids are a hit and miss for coming to dinner they usually stay in the teen area for dinner except we make them come for formal night just for pictures.

Water on board........They do have a water bottle option on board, we got it one time, dont know why......we dont drink water unless we have packets of something to mix in....we had a good bit left......seems alot of people had a good bit left, as you would see it on the last night out side the doors when things are being packed up.

I have heard the water on the ship (tap) is so filtered that it is as good as bottled water.......Again wouldnt know dont drink water.

Just an FYI.

What we do bring along is a couple bottles of alchohol.......we wont drink them all but, we like the variety and we will also bring along a small blender, our is the MAGIC BULLET......

We get fruit from the food bars and keep in fridge and then we go to deck and get ice cream and blend it up in our BULLET with some of our own alchohol, and we have our own drink of the day.......IT SAVES A GOOD BIT OF $$$ cuz i do like to drink specialty drinks, and our last cruise i DID NOT TAKE THE BULLET and i spent WAY too much on frozen drinks.

SHOOT this time i might evn bring my own DCL cups as i have way too many from last time.

Welcome aboard! We are ion 7592! Pretty close to each other... When is your DS's birthday? Alex, DD, will turn 11 on 1/28...

Oh i dont know if i answered you.......But that is awesome........are you in a verandah on that side of the ship?

I think at both CC and KW we will be on the side to look to land.

I like being close to the back of the ship so we can just go straight up to the drink station and to topsiders.

My DS bday isnt until FEB but this is what he wanted to do one more time before he turns 18.

okay that is all for me for tonight.........

My rest time is over back to work.

Drinks: I know for a fact hubby wants to bring wine for me and he will probably bring some beer for himself for when he isn't drinking wine with me. Water I am REALLY picky about and even bottled water in a glass is gross to me...lol makes sense huh? I am bringing drink bottles for everyone so I am sure if the tap water on board is good that will make me drink it rather than a glass. Don't ask, I'm an odd duck...lol.

T Shirts: I ask that if we do go with meet t-shirts and we have all the same color, that it not be red! It makes my hair look orange....lol. Ok, I really don't care but remember my warning! I love the cast member tag on your shirts Kelli and I must say you look as beautiful as ever! If we have someone do up a design they need to email it to me so I have it right. I have been too busy to even play with any of my creative programs on the laptop.

Cards: I will be brining cards. Most of my favorite games require more than one deck so I will make sure to have enough to cover whomever may want to play. I cannot find the rules to the one game I mentioned earlier (Oh $#!t) so my mom and I are recreating some varriation of it. I am also making sure to bring pens and note pads to keep scores.

Rooms: We are staying on the 6th floor, anyone else going to be on the same or is everyone on the 7th? We stayed front and port side to try to avoid smokers. My daughter has allergies and I would like her to be able to actually enjoy the veranda and not have to be confined ot the room because of a neighboring passengers smoking. DCL said that we had a better chance of non smokers on Port side so we listened... guess we will find out if it was the right time to start listening or not.... We are also the 3rd from the front so we should be relatively safe.

Cigars: Neither DH or I smoke at all. We have enough bad habbits anyways, don't really need another.

Magnets: I am kinda excited about the magnet exchange! Now.... are we going to try to keep it relevant to our home town or are we doign Disney as well? I prefer home town type magnets personally. It is alot more fun to see where your fellow passengers are from than Mickey that you can buy yourself. Any thoughts?

Meets: When are we planning on doing the meet and greet? Fist day obviously but will it be a before we sail thing? an after dinner thing? Any thoughts?

FE's: Ok, I am still trying to figure something out with the FE's. Remeber this is my first cruise so I am new to all of this... Do we set up days that certain people do their FE deliveries or is it a whenever thing? I read somewhere that they had a schedule for deliveries so you didn't have a single day without goodies. How have you guys done this in the past?

Onboard Movies: Ok, dumb question but I figured someone here has to know... do they only show Disney Movies onboard?

Dinner: We are second seating for dinner and I have another silly question... if you want to sit with someone specific, do you have to plan it ahead of time or is it something you can change on the fly, providing your at the same seating for dinner? My biggest fear with dinner is having someone with really messy kids that doesn't understand that DD and I cannot have any cross contamination when it comes to gluten and our food. Had lunch with my one neice the other day and she had crumbs half way accross the table (she is 15) and was complaining that it doesn't matter, why did I make a fuss and move DD.... Well, if DD even gets one of those crumbs in her food and eats it, she will be visiting the onboard doctor. :sad2:

Ok, I think I have taken up enough time and post space. Time to call mom and work some more on the game rules!

Chrisse :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Definitely! It does have this years dates on it though. I'll try to find out who did the design to update dates to our cruise...

:rotfl2:

Yes! Do you want me to put you down for that?

I have heard the water on the ship (tap) is so filtered that it is as good as bottled water.......Again wouldnt know dont drink water.

Just an FYI.

I thought the water on the ship was fine. I just brought bottles and refilled them on the ship. Didn't have any problems.

Oh i dont know if i answered you.......But that is awesome........are you in a verandah on that side of the ship?

We are in a verandah! Thanks to KSF.

I think at both CC and KW we will be on the side to look to land.

I think we are. I was reading room reports on nearby rooms as there wasn't one on ours and they mentioned having a great view of CC!

I like being close to the back of the ship so we can just go straight up to the drink station and to topsiders.

Me too! Also, being on 7 there won't be as many stairs...

Drinks: I know for a fact hubby wants to bring wine for me and he will probably bring some beer for himself for when he isn't drinking wine with me. We are definitely bringing wine, and just bottles of water to refill on the ship. I thought the water was just fine.
T Shirts: I ask that if we do go with meet t-shirts and we have all the same color, that it not be red! It makes my hair look orange....lol. Ok, I really don't care but remember my warning! On our meet for that cruise, we just did whatever color shirt you wanted. I wanted royal blue but couldn't find that color in all the sizes I needed. I'll have to remember who designed that tag. I did have some issues getting it to the size I wanted. Must have printed out about 10 different sizes (thankfully on paper!) before getting it to the size I wanted...

Good idea! I'll bring some cards too, and will bring our Princess Uno deck. That is a great game, but we do have a rule that you can't sit next to a spouse/significant other to play as it could cause a divorce! Or at least a major fight! :lmao:

Rooms: We are staying on the 6th floor, anyone else going to be on the same or is everyone on the 7th? We stayed front and port side to try to avoid smokers. My daughter has allergies and I would like her to be able to actually enjoy the veranda and not have to be confined ot the room because of a neighboring passengers smoking. Bleh! Didn't think of smokers. Hopefully we will not be near any...

Cigars: Neither DH or I smoke at all. We have enough bad habbits anyways, don't really need another.

The DH used to every now and then, but it's been awhile. I do like the way some of those smell. Not nearly as bad as cigarrettes...

I did Disney ones, just because there isn't anything all that interesting in our town. We lived in Charleston, SC for years. If we were still there, I would have tons of magnet ideas.

Meets: When are we planning on doing the meet and greet? Fist day obviously but will it be a before we sail thing? an after dinner thing? Any thoughts?

Usually a first day one around 3:00ish, but that seemed so rushed. Maybe one that day and set up a couple of others too. We'll need to set up a meet for the scavenger hunt and a couple of card meets too...

Once the FE list is closed out, I'll assign days for everyone to do them so they are spaced out. If you have a preferance for a day, just let me know.

Onboard Movies: Ok, dumb question but I figured someone here has to know... do they only show Disney Movies onboard?

I think so, but on ours in January, it wasn't all kids/animated ones.

Well, if DD even gets one of those crumbs in her food and eats it, she will be visiting the onboard doctor. :sad2:

Yikes! Don't sit with us then! Alex is the crumb queen. Not all over the table, but still... :sad2: I would say to have them make a note on your cruise reservation. You might want to ask for a table for just your family to be extra safe. On embarkation day, go by Beat Street (I think) where they are doing Palo, spa, etc. reservations and they should be able to tell you if that was set up for you.

Getting way to excited for 4.5 months to go!! :sad2:

Ok, I know this sounds crazy with 4.5 months till we set sail but.... WHAT SHOULD I PACK!? :confused3 This is our FIRST vacation out of Canada and I am already stressing about packing! Any tips? Any MUST HAVES I should know about? I have read on the main boards but I wanted advice from people I will actually sail with. HELP!

Chrisse

It's not crazy - I have already begun to think about this as well. One thing I would suggest is a highliter (perhaps even different colored ones) to mark off things in your Navigator that you might want to do. Sunscreen (I have a lot of extra bottles leftover, so I am going to stick some of those aside), goggles for the kids for swimming, several bathing suits each (these can be worn as your outfit for the day, espcially on sea days), crocs/flip flops for beach/pool, light-up alarm clock, hats (even though it's January, the sun will be stronger in the Caribbean than at home), some detergent if you plan to do laundry (I'll probably bring those Purex 2-in-1 sheets), and ziploc bags in various sizes (you never know when these might come in handy). I try to limit the number of shoes by selecting ones that will go with several different outfits. Our cruise last summer, the boys just wore their crocs except on dress up night. I had considered taking some bottled water, but I think I may just take a few plastic water bottles and fill them up for excursions. I need to save room for the alcohol I'm planning on bringing, lol! Other than that, just plan your outfits before you leave, make sure you have any meds you need and extra camera batteries or a charger. That's all I can think of for now - I'm sure someone else will chime in if I've forgotten something!

These are the things i would not want to be without on the cruise

1. EXTENSION CORD!!!! uggh i did not bring one last time and i regretted it every time i wanted to plug something in......extension cord with extra plug ins

2. clear over the door shoe holder.....i do use it for flip flops and for minor bathrooms things like travel size soaps, hair clips, hair barrets, etc

3. hair dryer, dont count on theirs

4. my own cup/mug/etc

5. creamer for coffee

6. hat to throw on when i get up in morning and dont want to do hair to go get coffee ( i know i could order room service but i like to get up early and walk the ship before too many people are up)

7. a good book

8. I pack my clothes by day in large ziplocs easier for me to see what i have already packed learned the hard way when i tookl my first cruise and repacked about 15 times cuz i couldnt rememeber what was in the suitcase.

9. meds tylenol, seasick pills etc in carry on

10. own bottles of alcohol

That all i can think of for now

I dont care about matching shirts for all of us....if that isnt what we want but what about some way of being able to pick each other out in the terminal.

Dont know about you guys but we get there FIRST THING.

It can be a long wait but i cant help my self I just gotta go.
I really missed my DH being there last time, the 2 teen girls that were with me took a nap and my older DD was in the bathroom half the time.

We did get a picture with Mickey!

Ok lastly for today........

DAY ONE

What will you have them announce you as?

LAst time since it was just us girls...we came up with the "WONDERful Sali girls"
SALI being our initials
Dont know what we will do this year maybe something just for our DS since we will be celebrating his bday.

Lunch where do you perfer to eat?

we have done once at topsiders outside and twice parrot cay
I really perfer to eat outside and will definitley be doing that this time.

What will you do during the sail away party?

I think we will just chill and get to the front of the ship asap to watch for dolphins and see where we are going we saw a manatee last time as we were leaving and if you go to the correct side you can look over and see people waving to you some will be at the termianl with mickey hands on waving othere will be at the park or restaurants kind of cool. We have seen the show and most likely wont go to it unless my DS wants to its really his week

OKAY WELL GOOD NIGHT!!!!
TTFN

Just checking back in...

Welcome to everyone who has joined since I last visited. I'm going to do my best to be more active in the thread now that my boys are back in school.

I'm currently putting together a list of things to do before we board. It is getting really long. LOL

I started to do a bit of shopping for my boys for the semi-formal dinner night. I figure that you can't go wrong with matching clothing. ;)

I'm still on the fence about Fish Extenders since I'm concerned about the packing space but I'm certain I'll join in because it sounds like so much fun.

Question: Has anyone here used Happy Limo? I sent them an email a week ago for a quote for a private bus for my group and have heard nothing back. I'm certain that this is probably a sign that I should walk away and find someone else. But I sent them off another email so we'll see if I get a response this time.

Lynn,
Can you tell me about the announcing thing? I'm not sure that I've read anything about that yet.
