Jan. 22- 29 , 2011 Western Caribean Cruise on the Disney Magic!!!

Hello - We just booked this cruise this morning. It is myself, my husband Doug and our boys Jake (9) and Jason (7). This will be our 2nd Disney cruise and our first 7 night. We are very excited! I've decided to try and surprise the kids with the cruise - we were supposed to be going to WDW that week but we decided to change plans.

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you and yoru family joining us!

What a great suprise for yoru kids! We wanted to suprise the kids for Christmas.... that lasted almost a month...lol. DH and I were way too excited and the kids were wondering why mom bought luggage...lol.

Hi folks!

Funny to read Lokkabear question about excursion planning, since my crew and I did just that last week-end, over an amazing Indian-themed dinner (BTW, the secret for a smooth and delicious mango lassi? The Mighty Magic Bullet!). Now, I'm a firm believer that us adults shouldn't try to force ourselves to compromise and find ways to be together all day and night. In fact, I even look forward to explore the Magic by myself, grab a chai latte at the Cove Café and just absorb the view... Just so I'm all refreshed and smily when I meet my friends later on, you know? :hippie:

As it happens, we don't appear to have much interests in common as excursions go: one wants to cuddle with dolphins, the other would like to snorkel and I want to parasail all the way from Key West to Cozumel! :rotfl:

I'm looking at the parasailing offered at Castaway Cay, as well as the one over at Key West's Fury Cat (I can't post link yet, so you'll have to Google it). The latter one being half the price, it does look inviting! I may very well choose to go to Fury Cat - twice! :yay:

As for Cozumel, we're torn in between exploring the Tulum ruins and trying out the Mexican Cuisine Workshop. Not that I fear that I won't be fed enough, mind you! :rolleyes1

So, what are YOU planning? Let's share!

Hi Everyone!

Our problem with excursions is that almost all of the one's we're interested in, our DS is too young to do. And it's all stuff he would love. Can't do it without him!!

So... we will probably do the Trolley Tour in Key West and get tix on-line so we can get off and on where/whenever we want. Last cruise, we walked. You NEVER heard so much moaning and groaning over HOW LONG we had to walk and when will we be there... And that was the DH!! :sad2: Kidding, not really the DH, just the kiddos. In Cozumel we'll probably go to Paradise Beach on our own. Can't think of anything more fun than sitting in the sun and having waiters bringing me refreshing adult beverages whilst the young 'uns frolic in the blue, blue ocean...

Nothing really appeals that much in Grand Cayman... We'd rather stay on board and have the pools to ourselves! ;)

You know, there is a very popular clothing optional rooftop bar in Key West.... Who's up for that?? :lmao: Should we have a meet there or what? Of course, being rooftop, it may be too much for GiddyRhino's roomie's hair. Wouldn't want to cause hair havoc too early on in the cruise!

Oh, well....

I guess that's out...

So what is everyone else doing?

Is it January YET???

I'm thinking that we will do Key West on our own. My friend told me it was easily walkable, but we may decide to do the trolley tour. In Grand Cayman I am planning on doing the island tour and stop at the turtle farm (I'm sure the kids will love this). I'm not sure what to do in Cozumel yet -I'll have to talk to my husband about it when it gets closer. He tells me I'm obsessed with Disney if I bring stuff up about our trips too often - I don't know where he got that idea from :rolleyes1

I picked up an Hawaiian shirt for Jake and some cute shorts with pirate ships on them for Jason on clearance at Target yesterday. It's killing me that I can't tell them why I'm buying these things, LOL. Let's hope we can keep the secret until January!!:goodvibes

Well you have already beat the length DH and I kept our trip a secret...lol. I think we lasted 2 weeks? Seeing mom buy luggage was a big giveaway..lol.

We are either walking or doing the trolley in Key west as well. I am still working out the other spots. I really want a Mayan tour of some sort so I will probably stick with DCL for that one. The dolphins in Grand Cayman I may find someplace cheaper but I am still researching. If not, DCL will be doing the dirty work on that one too.

DH is almost as bad as i am with buying stuff for the cruise and is just as excited. I love that I can go over any new information I find with him every night and he gets right into it! Tonight I get to tell him about what I read today on there being a Baraccuda at the family beach at CC!!!

Is it January yet?

I just can't keep that kind of secret either! :sad2: Wish I could, just to see the look on their faces when we get there (or they figure it out!)...

I'll definitely have to check Target out for the Hawiian shirts and the shorts that SSR Lover mentioned. They always have a bunch of great Fish Extender stuff in the dollar aisle...

Is it January yet?????

Julianne, I thought I had said "welcome" to you guys here but I guess not! In any case, welcome! We are practically neighbors! I grew up in Perry Hall and have family and good friends in Bel Air. Now we live in Ellicott City. My oldest son is currently 7 and named Jason also! We also have a 6 year old son named Aidan and a 3 year old daughter, Helen. Glad to have you aboard! :)

Thanks for the welcome! I guess it really is a small world after all, LOL.

We've still managed to keep the trip a secret. The funny thing is Jake got his National Geographic Kids magazine last week and there is a contest to win a trip to Grand Cayman next summer. He is very interested in going to see the sea turtles (he learned about them in school last year and we even "adopted" one for him). My husband told him if he got a good report card this fall, we would take him to Grand Cayman next year. So now we can discuss our trip a little bit without the kids catching on. :rotfl:

I booked a room for us at The Country Inn & Suites the night before the cruise. The kids have an early dismissal that Friday, but we've decided to pull them that day and leave early in the am to drive down instead of leaving at 1:30 in the afternoon. We always wind up losing a few hours south of DC stuck in traffic when we leave in the afternoon. Is anyone else staying there?

We plan to go down on Friday (fly though) and stay at CI &S too! Maybe we'll run into you there. :-)

Hi all:

We just booked the cruise through DVC. This will be our 4th Disney cruise. It will be me, DH and DS. Our son will be graduating from college in December and we are taking this cruise as a graduation trip. He will also be finishing the Disney College Program in January!

Glad to meet everyone and looking forward to our trip together! :)

Welcome!! :) Wow - Disney College sounds exciting! I don't know much about that at all. Hope to meet you all on the ship!

Welcome MIKESMOM88! Glad to have you sailing with us!

It's funny that SSRLOVER asked about hotels since Tinkerbell123 and I have just been discussing this! I wish we were staying at the CI&S now that it seems everyone else is staying there but being our first ever Disney Cruise and my first big trip out of Canada since I was 4, I let Disney do all the bookings from air, hotel, transfers and the cruise. We will be staying at the Hyatt Orlando Airport for the night before so I am sad to say i will miss hanging out at the hotel pool with most of you. BUT! I look forward to meeting you on the ship!!! I think DH, the kids and I are going to be in Orlando in time for dinner so I am looking for any good suggestions as to where we might eat. I need to reseach some places to see who can accomidate DD and I diet wise so if you know of any amazing places to eat, let me know so I can look them up! Thanks!

Christina

I tell ya, I love summer but I sure wish January would get here already!

Hi Everyone!!

Welcome aboard Mikesmom88! I hope I get the chance to talk to your son about the college program. Always wanted to do that!

We stayed at the Radisson last year, but the kids saw the kids suites at the CI&S and wanted to stay there, so we will be there too! Radisson had a really cool pool, but the rooms weren't all that great. Breakfast was really good there too, but I have heard the same about CI&S... We're going to Fish Lips again for dinner and I CAN'T WAIT!!!! LOVED their food! The DH and I ordered a ton of appetisers and had THE best ahi tuna dish EVER! I have been craving it ever since! :sad2:

So is anyone up for doing a meet t-shirt?

Kelli

Ok, this sucks! I hate not being in the same hotel as everyone else! I don't think they will change if for me though so I am stuck. Oh well, I am sure you will all be sick of me by the end of the cruise anyways...lol. Chat with you all soon!

160 days till we sail!!!!!

Well, at least you can get on the first DCL bus out of MCO! I was so mad last year when our flight landed at 12:30 and it took forever for that bus to leave for the port, LOL. We didn't get on the ship until just after 3:00 and I think they stopped serving lunch at 3:30, so we had to go directly to BBB and missed our DIS meet. I am determined to get on the ship early this year! :rotfl:

We have now booked for this date as well! Had booked the eastern on the 29th of Jan. but really wasnt to interested in the eastern caribbean so changed to the western even though we cruised this last November. This is our 2nd cruise and are also booked on the dream with b2b in August. Joining me Leslie is dh Terry and our 6 year old grandson Logun, Loguns first cruise! Took 2 of our other grandkids last year and they loved it now its Loguns turn! Yes to the FE , cabin6633, looking forward to chatting and meeting you all!:thumbsup2

Welcome aboard!! Glad to have y'all. We are also going to do a scavenger hunt for kids/families & probably one for adults too if you are interested! I'll add you to the FE list...

We thought about the Eastern too, but the DH was in the Navy a zillion years ago and his submarine stopped at a couple of the islands that are stops on the eastern cruise once or twice and he hated it. Said they were yukky. Of course, I am SURE nothing has changed in the 25 intervening years!! :rotfl:

We did this same cruise last January. Also, I am volunteering to act as your grandchild for the B2B next August!! I am much more self sufficient than a kid! ;)

WELCOME! WELCOME! WELCOME!

YAY! More people! Like Kelli, I will more than gladly go with you in Aug! I wont even require anything but a very large suitcase to cram into! I think I am slightly over the 50 lbs weight restriction though.. Oh well. :(
Welcome aboard! :dance3:

PS Kelli! Get back to work, your setting a bad example! :happytv:

Welcome, Leslie and family!
Your Logun will fit right in with my boys, ages 8 and 6 at the time of sailing. (actually DS just turned 6 today!) I've been on the boards more lately - it's getting closer! :-)
