Jan 2 2013 Dream Cruise

I spoke with DCL this afternoon, and got two different answers to the dining activities. So I contacted my TA and she did some research for me - with the night at sea at the beginning of the cruise, there's a different schedule than usual. Here's what I found:

Dining rotation will be the same location on nights 3 and 4.

Pirate night is the third night.

Semi-formal night is the second night, cruise casual on night 1 and 4.

Movies scheduled are:
  • Monsters, Inc. 3-D
  • Lincoln
  • Wreck It Ralph
  • People Like Us
  • The Odd Life of Timothy Green
  • Brave
  • Avengers

She also paused, and said they were looking at possibly changing some of the on-board activities and rambled on about the fireworks and weather, so of course everything is subject to change.

Yea on the movies!!! I've never seen Brave and DD19 says it's really good!

Cool! I wanted to see Lincoln, but wouldn't go because I figured it would be showing on the boat.

racingfandj - I have a 4yo DD that would be glad to get away from her 10yo brother while on the cruise.

Awesome! Our kids don't know about the cruise yet, so JJ is going to be so excited on Christmas when we finally tell them. I may let her stop by to say Hi! :wave2:

SSawka - Yes, it's Singulair. This has been the craziest experience ever. I don't like to make excuses for things and her medicine change crossed my mind, but never really seriously. I feel for you if you have to deal with the side effects of it in order to be healthy. It's a crazy medicine.

Thanks for setting up the fish extender exchange. Looking forward to the cruise. The kids have no idea. Will see you at the vista at 3 pm

Wow - leaving work today made this trip finally feel REAL!!! All of a sudden I'm getting nervous that I haven't gotten everything ready. I've never felt so excited for Christmas to get over!! :lmao:

How far are you traveling? We are driving 24 hoursish total... glad I don't work on the 31st! Can't wait for relaxation on the ship!

My DW said goodbye to her students (after a day off for snow) on Friday, and we're both off until the 8th. We drive down on THURSDAY, with lots of lazy stops along the way. So we have one day after Christmas to take down Christmas (you'd have to know Bethany) and make sure we've got everything packed. It's so different to drive knowing you don't have a suitcase limit - this is not necessarily a good thing. We'll be bringing DD back home after the cruise from her Disney internship (if you go to Animal Kingdom before the cruise, let me know if Rebekah is your driver!).

Hurry up Christmas!!!

We're flying out the afternoon of the 1st. Going to spend the morning watching the Rose Parade and then head to the airport. Pretty easy flight to Orlando and then we're spending the night in the Hyatt at the airport.

I'm glad we're flying Southwest because that way we can each have two pieces of checked bags!!

Well, believe it or not I just booked TODAY for the Jan 2 cruise. Here's our story, we've been on 3 DCL cruises (2 on Wonder, and 1 on Dream) and loved it. We went to Disneyworld in September, and I had no plans to cruise this year.

But, we have had a very bad fall. My husband passed away suddenly on October 21, leaving me and our boys 9 and 5. We are devistated. And there has been one thing after another even since then.

I'd been wanting to go somewhere just to get away, but my 9 year old said he was too sad to travel anywhere. Until this morning, when he said he wanted to go on a Disney Cruise THIS break.

Um, sold out dude. So I decided to call DCL and ask if there was anything. The nicest lady, Paula, heard my situation, and said she'd keep an eye out for a room cancellation. Well, she called a few hours later and said she'd been checking every few minutes since we talked. She REALLY wanted to get us on that cruise, and even bent a few rules, apparently. But she found us a cabin. After that, how could I say no? Airfare was crazy, but I feel we really need this.

So right now we're in 5682. We fly in on the 1st and are staying at MCO Hyatt.

Here's hoping for great weather, and a healthy fun trip. DH and I loved cruising, so I know this will be bittersweet, but I know he'd approve of this fun last minute adventure, too.

Andrewsmommy - Welcome to the cruise! Sorry to hear about your husband. Glad Disney could work their magic and get you on the ship. Bring the boys to the meet n greet. Maybe they can make some friends or if the younger one likes the kids club, you and the 9 y/o can spend some alone time together. I hope this is a healing trip for all of you.

So my mommy-brained moment of the day...Riding home from KC today and I'm telling DH and mom about a friend from work travelling at the same time and place as we are. I openly reference how we had to take the earlier flight because it was sooo much cheaper because there are 5 of us! :scared1: Thankfully, the kids are both tuned in to their own worlds and they didn't catch me in my vacation story! :rolleyes1

Oh please come to our meet and greet on the first day! :wave2:

I'm so sorry about your DH, I can't even begin to imagine how you and your children feel. But I'm so glad that Disney was able to find a cabin for you on our cruise. I've typed a million words of comfort for you, but none of them seem right, so I'm just going to give you a cyber hug and pray for your family.

We're staying at the Hyatt too and taking Disney transportation to the port!

Soooo excited! Did the big reveal to the kids today and made our FEs for both cabins... well, started anyway! I love Christmas, but excited to be past it soon and sailing away! So excited to meet all of you!

We all welcome you - with such a horrible fall, your family deserves a joyful January. Our prayers are with you and if there's anything we can do to make your trip more enjoyable, please let us know.

Andrew's Mommy,

So sorry for your loss. I understand your loss and would love to meet up with you at some point. I lost my DH on March 4th. We had been married 25 years and he left behind a 20 year old, a 17 year old and a 7 year old. We struggle daily with the loss. We booked our first cruise for June to help us heal a bit as a family. We found it so healing, we booked this Disney Dream Cruise for January as a reward for getting through the holidays. Holidays can be really tough but I am finding it comforting to know that we will get through it and have time to just be......

Again, sorry. It sucks. No other words but it sucks....
:(:(

I'm sorry you went through it too. its so hard. I'd love to meet up with you - i was going to seek you out anyway since I saw you were travelling with just your kids. I am from the south suburbs of Chicago! We'll plan to come to the meetup. We are now in 7622 - I was shocked another cabin option came up and our first was right over a night club so I'm happier with this. My kids are jumpy about noises at night.

We've always done FE before, but I'm sure we're too late to join now, but we might bring some stuff and keep an eye out for FEs hanging out there!

Thanks all for your kind words.
