Jamming Phones to Keep Worshiping Quiet

DOHA (Reuters) - Qatar has imported 1,000 frequency jammers to block mobile phone transmissions that disrupt prayers and sermons in the Gulf state's mosques, the daily newspaper The Peninsula said Thursday.
The Cellular Phone Hunter, a pocket-size device, should silence the modern-day nuisance of cellphones chirruping during prayers, the paper said.
"Imams and muezzins (prayer callers) have been instructed to switch on the devices a few minutes before the call for prayer and keep them on till five minutes after the prayers, five times a day," The Peninsula added.



We need these in our movie theaters and performance venues!

They don't go off at my church. I guess folks don't carry them.......or the church is just too rural.

Happens at church all the time... always during a strong point in the sermon, or during communion (silent prayer time)... nothing like really trying to worsip from the heart, and hearing Van Halens Jump from a ringtone... GRRRR!


One of the ministers actually had to make a point about telling others to turn it off!


Wonder if I can get one of our services!

I think they'd be a handy device. I could actually enjoy movies again.

They used to be a nuisance on the commuter trains goings home for my DH... he's been up since 430 am, put in a 10 hour day, doesn't need to hear someone next to him shout to a friend on the celll "Yo, I'm on the train" Really, is that necessary!

This is one of my BIG pet peeves! DD's chorus has been trying for the last 4 choral performances to get a quality recording of a concert (for CD's). But there is always some JERK who has his/her cell phone ring in the middle of the concert. And, yes, the director does ask that everyone PLEASE turn them off and should small children get squirmy please take them out. UGH! I really would like to have one CD before she graduates!

I hear them at church, bible study, movies, eating establishments, and everywhere else you could think of. What did people do in the days of no cell phones. Seems to be we survived just fine.

That sounds like a wonderful invention, I wonder if we can get those in the US?
