Anyone else come down with a severe stomach bug or food poisoning this week? My kids were there (Contemporary) this past Sunday to yesterday, and both got hit with something late Thursday night. It was so bad they couldn't home yesterday , and Disney wanted $900 for an extra night in the wing!!! We didn't even pay close to that to begin with. Just trying to figure out if it was bug or something they both ate!

Don't think they'll get the answer to the how question but as for $900- that's Disney policy, or at least it was in my experience a couple years back when the airline cancelled my flight. If you need another night last minute and there is availability- rack rate or get out. The only exception to that is hurricanes and even then its a case by case situation with the front desk.

Yea, they have certainly gotten worse with customer service. I called and explained that my kids were there (18 and 21) and both violently ill, so can we please extend another night at the $530 rate we paid. No way were they able to get on a plane in that condition. Besides the 900 , I was told they would have to check out of the room at 11am and wait for a new room at 4pm. Absolutely ridiculous. It's dead of January , I know they have rooms! Thx for the hospitality, Walt! 😡

We just got home... Disney Springs and the restaurants/bars were empty. However, I heard there are dance teams and cheerleaders competing starting this weekend, so maybe the resorts are full? It's ridiculous, though; they should have extended the room and rate to your kids. If they needed proof, just tell them to go check in on the kids and let Disney SEE (and smell, and hear) how sick they are!

That's awful.
We went Friday to Monday last weekend and didn't get sick but we stayed at WL and only visited HS and MK. I also sanitized our hands after each ride and wiped all the high touch places in our room: door knobs, faucets, flush lever, remote control, etc. We also washed with soap and water before meals.
Unless your kids are germaphobes, they probably didn't do all of this. I know I wouldn't have when I was their age.

Wow that's super disappointing. I would try to call guest relations through the regular disney number and ask for guest relations/supervisor.

This past summer we were at CSR and my mom ended up in the hospital and we needed to extend our room a night. Front desk told me I'd have to call guest relations to see if they could grant me the rate I was paying. Honestly I was a lil annoyed as my mom was going into emergency surgery, but called and they were very nice and got same rate. We also of course did not have to vacate the room to checkin again.

That's pretty shameful.

Might be Noro that is going around. The sickest I have gotten was on a January WDW trip with my family . We all got sick but I was the worst. A true nightmare. We stayed a few extra nights but at that time it was reasonable rates.

It's MLK weekend. It's a super busy weekend at WDW and has been for years. If this happened last weekend they might have more leeway.

Did you try going to the front desk and asking to extend.....or did you only call? I would guess the phones have zero leeway where the front desk can probably extend discounted rates not available to new bookings.

It sounded to me that the OP's kids went on their own.

Come on

They are not " Kids " They are Adults aged 18 & 21
I know that's not the point of the thread but I sorta agree with you here. I know how it feels to be confined to a hotel due to food poisoning unfortunately but the OP isn't down there with them and there's no reason why the OP should be calling the hotel demanding this or that, it makes it an awkward conversation to have too over the phone because you're not physically there so like what do you expect the hotel to really be able to do not to mention it's a parent calling on behalf of adults staying at the hotel.

FWIW OP in my situation last year when I had food poisoning I was stuck in a hotel near JFK, when we needed to extend our trip we were going to be charged the nightly room rate of that night (not the room rate we booked), that is a norm enough thing.

However it's not like my husband pitched a fit when he went down to extend the room stay.

My friend’s daughter got norovirus at Universal last year. Stomach issues so bad that she couldn’t keep down even a sip of water. She ended up hospitalized for two days.

I wasn't there .. I called . Kids were too sick to get to the lobby.
