Jamie Lynn Spears - 16 and Pregnant

The only thing I can say about Brit vs Jamie.... at least Brit was in her 20's and married before she started popping them out. It didn't make her a better parent obviously but she wasn't (that we know of) preg at 16 and all over the tabloids because of it.

I just hope that this doesn't trigger tweens to want to follow in her footsteps because it's cool. She at least has the $$ to support this child unlike most 16yo moms.

I'm really dreading my DD12 finding out about this. She is a fan of the show & of Jamie Lyn. How do you explain this stuff to a pre-teen? :confused3

What about girls even younger, say 9 & 10 yr olds who who are fans, how do you explain to them that "Zoey" is pregnant!?

Last I heard, teenagers across all demographics are getting pregnant. Doesn't matter if you come from a trailer park or a mansion. Teenagers have sex. Some of them get pregnant. Blaming her mother is ridiculous.

I was a pregnant teen. I have a 16yodd now.

Knowing what I know now...I blame the parent.

I don't believe for one minute that she "sold" her story to the magazine because she wanted to profit from this. I am certain that she went to the magazine so SHE could be the one to break the story on HER terms, and not have so sleazy tabloid exploit her. Personally, I think it was a smart move on her part.

What's with everybody bashing her Mom because a teenager got pregnant???? It's not like she is the first 16 yr old in history to have premarital sex and get pregnant! I have read several stories from people right on this board who were teenage moms, some of them even younger than Jamie Lynn.

So true.. crap happens.. from the church going virgins to the ones in the trailer parks to the rich kids in beverly hills.

Hopefully you will see her look at her older sisters mistakes and she will do the opposite.

I dont remember everyone freaking out this much when Beyonce's sister was pregnant at 17.

crap happens..
Oh, I get it -- she was just a passive victim of circumstances beyond her control? So, I see it now -- She stepped off the curb into a crosswalk when the light said to walk and the pregnancy bus ran a light and hit her?

No. She chose to have sex. Sex leads to pregnancy, if it is unprotected. She chose to engage in risky behaviors and now she has the consequences of it.

I know teenagers have sex and some of them end of pregnant even when their parents try to keep an eye on them. However SHE LET HER 16 YEAR OLD DUAGHTER LIVE WITH HER BOYFRIEND, thats just asking for her to get pregnant. There is no way I would take parenting advise from someone that let their teenager live with their boyfriend.

If parents put bondaries on their children it is less likely that something like this would happen.

I found this on another board I post at:

Zoey 101 Headliner Jamie Lynn Spears Stars in Nickelodeon TV Movie 'Goodbye
Zoey,' Premiering Friday, Jan. 4, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT)
Teen Queen's Character Faces King-Sized Decision: Move to London or Stay Put

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Jamie Lynn Spears' Zoey
Brooks receives life-changing news in a special one-hour original Nickelodeon
TV movie premiere, "Goodbye Zoey," airing Friday, January 4 at 8:00 p.m.
(ET/PT). In a pivotal plot for the hit series, the independent teen wrestles
with whether to move to London with her parents or to stay put on sandy shores
with her pals at Pacific Coast Academy.

"Friendships are put to the test in this exciting TV movie, where the kids
face the real-life challenges of making tough decisions and moving to new
places," said Marjorie Cohn, Executive Vice President, Development and
Original Programming, Nickelodeon. "We think the surprise ending will leave
viewers riveted and looking forward to the new season of the show."
Zoey's life is shaken when her parents reveal their sudden plans to move
to England and give her the option of packing up and settling abroad with
them. Overwhelmed, she ponders the prospect of leaving all of her best pals
at P.C.A. She quickly consults her friends Lola (Victoria Justice), Quinn
(Erin Sanders), Logan (Mathew Underwood) and Michael (Christopher Massey) who
will do anything to keep her from moving, but waits for the right moment to
tell Chase (Sean Flynn), her long-time guy pal. But when he inadvertently
discovers the news before she has a chance to tell him, Chase is crushed that
Zoey didn't come to him directly and brushes her off -- prompting her to
seriously consider saying goodbye to her life at P.C.A. And just as Zoey
thinks she's made her decision, Chase inadvertently throws a major league
curveball leaving her more confused then ever.
Zoey 101 debuted in January 2005, and was the network's highest-rated

leader with that demo and now ranks as the number-one series on TV with kids

on all of television, with Zoey 101 ranking among the top five.
The series and the TV movie come courtesy of executive producer/creator
Dan Schneider (Nickelodeon's iCarly, Zoey 101, Drake & Josh, The Amanda Show,
Kenan & Kel, and All That) and his Schneider's Bakery, Inc. Schneider also
penned and executive produced Paramount Pictures/Nickelodeon Movies feature
film Good Burger, and his recent credits include creating and executive
producing the WB series What I Like About You starring former Nickelodeon
star Amanda Bynes.
Nickelodeon, in its 28th year, is the number-one entertainment brand for

but then an article from AP said the third season is done and will begin airing in Feb but I think that's the last season.

I think they just finished the 3rd season (airing) but another article says the fourth season has already been taped and will air through 2008.

But still. I feel so badly for those girls. They had no CHILDHOOD!

I was wondering the same thing. My DD is 8 and likes Zoey 101. She already knows what a train wreck Britney is, but she thought her sister was different. I guess not. And yes, I know accidents happen and 16 year olds do get pregnant, even with BC. But I'm trying to figure out how to explain it to my DD before kids at school do. These parents who pimp their children out to stardom need to take extra care to actually parent their children, because their kids are the role models for our kids.

The scans haven't hit the internet yet but they will by this afternoon from OK magazine.

Here's some snippets from ok:

Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old sister of Britney, is 12 weeks pregnant!!!!!!
The Zoey 101 star says the father is her longtime boyfriend, Casey Aldridge. Here are some interview snippets via OK!:
On the pregnancy news being a shock to her and Casey: “It was a shock for both of us, so unexpected. I was in complete and total shock and so was he.”
On keeping the news to herself when she first found out: “As soon as I found out for sure from the doctor, I took two weeks to myself where I didn’t tell anybody. Only one of my friends knew because I needed to work out what I would do for myself before I let anyone’s opinion affect my decision. Then I told my parents and my friends. I was scared, but I had to do what was right for me.”
On her mother not liking the news of her pregnancy: “[My mom Lynne] was very upset because it wasn’t what she expected at all. A week after, she had time to cope with it and became very supportive.”
On her future with Nickelodeon series Zoey 101: “I haven’t spoken to (Nickelodeon) personally, but they have always been so great to me over the past years and have given me so many opportunities.”
On the message she’s sending to other teens about premarital sex: “I definitely don’t think it’s something you should do; it’s better to wait. But I can’t be judgmental because it’s a position I put myself in.”
This will be mom Lynne’s third grandchild (Britney has two young sons herself). “I didn’t believe it because Jamie Lynn’s always been so conscientious,” Lynne says. “She’s never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby.”
Nickelodeon’s statement: “We respect Jamie Lynn’s decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn’s well being.”

No place it was confirmed that she was living with her bf.

I'm sorry, but there is NO excuse for a young teenager to have a child, it's called birth control. I'm sorry, but No 16 year old I ever met was ready to have a child, in some cases, some did step up to the plate and ended up fine, but some didn't. Most had to live at home with mom and dad and therefore didn't take on the full responsibilty of raising the child themselves, because they had help. They, being irresponsible, put more stress on their parents. I am all for if you get pregnant, then be the parent and raise your kid, but don't push them off on to someone else, as I have seen (this goes not only for young girls, but other mothers that were well past the age of 18 who had no business having kids in the first place). I am not saying this is how it is for everyone, but a lot yes. I just don't understand why a 16 year old would want to have a baby in the first place? Why would you want all that responsibility at 16? I am just suprised that she would throw her career with Nickelodean away for something that she has all the time in the world for later on. I really don't want to point fingers, there are always the exceptions, and I don't really think it is fair for her to be punished for what her sister has done, but she could have made a better choice. I don't understand the rush it seems for young girls to get pregnant.

I guess in one way you can say that since she had her own show, and making money, then she is responsible enough, I am sure that is the argument people are going to use. IMO, if she was mature and responsible enough in the first place, she wouldn't have gotten pregnant. With that being said, I also heard on the radio this morning that her show has been cancelled, I have no doubt even if it is a rumor that it will get cancelled regardless. So now she has no show, obviously won't be able to get another job, so will have to live off whatever is saved up, or live off her mother or sister's money, again, not really responsible in my book. Teen pregnancy doesn't have to happen, it 100% preventable.

My opinion on this is big deal. Of course it's in the public because of who she is, but this happens every day. I don't feel sorry for any of them. We all make decisions we have to live with.

As for who's to blame? I'd say Jamie Lynn and her boyfriend. At 16, you know what happens (especially when your dear big sis has problems). Who knows? Maybe she wanted this to happen?

No one really knows how they were raised, but them. I don't think entertainment is really something you should push your children into though, but that's just my opinion. Too much stress and "grown up" issues for young kids.

Yes, the kid shouldn't have lived with her boyfriend at 16. That was stupid parenting. But at the same time, she couldn't be with her 24/7. You give your kids the knowledge and support they need and hope they use it well.
I know my parents were there for me and taught me right from wrong, but I am a learn from my own mistakes person. So, their "knowledge" was a guide, but I never believed it, til I tried it.

As for telling kids..I'll tell them "Hey guess who's pregnant now?" I'm not real worried about them wanting to follow in so and so's footsteps because they think it's cool. That's where I hope my support and mom skills come in and they realize that it's not.

I certainly hope I'm not in the Spears's mom's shoes ever, but it's something that could happen to any of us.

At the rate those chicks are procreating, half the population of this country will be inbred members of the Spears clan in 20 years.

Im sure what she has "saved up" will last her awhile.. If she doesn't turn into a lush like her sister and turns things around she will be back to work.. maybe not for nickelodeon but no reason why she wont get other jobs.

I remember the rumor was that she thought she was pregnant last summer. If they weren't using protection, then that was just plain stupid. They had a scare before, you would think that they would be extra careful, so that she wouldn't get pregnant. It really is a shame. I have a 15 yo DD, who also has a boyfriend. I worry about the same thing too. I don't know if she is active, but it still worries me. I talk to her all the time about sex, diseases and pregnancy, so I hope it sinks in. But teenagers don't always think about the consequences of their actions. Not saying I'm mother of the year, but this can happen to the best parents too. Kids will do what they want to, no matter how much you tell them not to.
