Now Now, tsk, tsk, tsk....When's that big "50" trip your DH is "surprising" you with? Did you see the deal that came out today for Disney Card Holders for the fall? Maybe you can persuade him with that deal, and work your way up!

... ....I gotta go check it out....:car: !!!

I have a conceirge question... I am just curious if beer is available from 5-10? I read what they had on allearsnet but it was clear. It says wine available from 5-7 and cordials from 8-10. I know beer is available upon request but during that whole time frame?

Please don't think we are just going to sit around and drink free beer all night. I am just curious if beer is available after a long night at the parks.

We just booked a standard room using the visa discount. No other views available. We have never stayed at AKL before so can you tell me about the standard rooms? Are they any different than the pool view or savanna view...besides the fact that I may be staring at a parking lot :rotfl: What areas/wings are the standard rooms located in? Any pictures? Any areas I should request?

...unless your children are truly adventuresome eaters with hearty appetites, I personally wouldn't recommend Jiko...however, depending upon your DS's ages, you might want to enroll them in the Simba's Den and have a 'romantic' dinner at Jiko with your honey....also, the Mara is a great place for kids - while, in reality it's probably best described as a 'cafeteria-style' eatery, the selections are quite good, varied, and reasonably priced! Boma is an awesome place to, for EITHER dinner or breakfast ~ it is our 2nd fave place to eat dinner, Le Cellier being our favorite....

DINING AT THE ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE

Three restaurants are located at the Animal Kingdom Lodge:

MARA is the quick-service dining option, open from 6 AM to midnight. Order your food and have it prepared for you, or grab pre-made sandwiches and other selections. Refillable mugs are available here in regular or travel sizes. Straws are not available for drinks - they may be dangerous to the animals and birds if dropped into their enclosures.

BOMA (Flavors of Africa) offers buffet dining for breakfast (7 AM - 11 AM) and dinner (5:30 PM - 10 PM). It is styled after an African marketplace, and manages to approximate the bustle and noise! A wide variety of offerings are presented, many based on traditional African cuisine. Boma has its own wood-burning grill and rotisserie, and at dinnertime combines its meat, poultry, fish and vegetable offerings with a good selection of soups and desserts.

JIKO (The Cooking Place) is open for dinner (5:30 PM - 10 PM) and boasts twin wood-burning ovens that give it its name. It features modern African-inspired cuisine and an extensive list of South African wines. Jiko's décor calls to mind the African plains - note the "birds" flying overhead!

VICTORIA FALLS LOUNGE is located on the second floor overlooking Boma. It's open from 4 PM to midnight.

CL QUESTION HERE!

I am thinking of upgrading from savannah to CL so I can do the sunrise safari. However, I was wondering, now that the DVC is coming do all the CL rooms face the savannah now or is it still pool view and savannah views?

Sorry for the big text, just everytime I post in here, the post get lost and then my ?s never get answered. Hoping this time this will catch someones attention
;)

Thanks for the responses ! I feel much better about the bunk bed option now (even if we have to move a ds after he falls asleep and hope he doesn't roll out :rotfl2: )

Any particular room area I should ask for that is better than another?

Tig-girl my ds are only 4 and 7 so if your 6 footers fit comfortably mine have to! Have a great trip next month!

The CL rooms are not all savanah rooms. Some still aren't.
At least that is what people are saying over on the dvc setion.
I was reading that over on the dvc misc section.

Yeah! Only 30 days left for me!! I wonder..........

1. If there will still be noticeable construction going on
2. If the resort will be half-empty
3. If the bus service will be BETTER than POFQ despite the fact AKL is further away from everything
4. If we'll be upgraded from our standard room (don't care if we are or not, just wondering)
5. If AKL will cause my DH to finally "get" what I love so much about Disney!

Hi, as I understand it, the CL rooms can be either savannah view or pool view. I think I read somewhere that it used to be that the only pool view rooms were the smoking rooms, so you were more or less guaranteed a savannah view if you requested savannah view. However since there aren't any smoking rooms any more, it is now open again. I would suggest requesting a savannah view when you book the room and once you get in touch with the CL IPO people point out again in a polite way that you really want a savannah view. From all the great reviews I have read about the AKL CL I think they will try their very best to give you a room that you will like!

regarding 3. I think you will love the direct busses! We loved the bus service!

on all the other questions: interesting ifs, hope you will report back on the outcome!

and best of luck for 5.!!!! pixiedust:

Thanks for the replies. I think I will just stick with the regular savannah view. At least im guranteed a savannah view. I think I read somewhere on here that if theres an opening for the sunrise safari and no body fills it from the CL that anyone can grab that spot. Is that true and do they still do that?

I'd be really bummed if I ended up in a pool room. When I made my reservations I was told that a savannah view room was guaranteed in the CL room type, but this was before the non-smoking policy. I guess I'll request it through IPO and hope for the best. The whole reason we're staying at AKL was Sunrise Safari and the savannah view from the room balcony.

I don't think they've ever done that. :confused3 The Sunset Safari opened up to non-CL guests (for $220/pp last I heard), but the Sunrise has always been for the exclusive use of AKL-CL. sorry.

This is not true. All Club rooms are now Savannah view only. No more pool view. I'm staying very shortly and have spoken with IPO planners.

Great news! That's what IPO told me too, but I wasn't sure if it had changed when the smoking policy changed. Have a wonderful trip.

So we're 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000% sure :lmao: that ALL CL rooms are now savannah?

That's great news! I think it was discussed just after the new non-smoking policy came out that there now would be pool view CL rooms. I never understood why they would let people pay for CL and then not give them the best view available!
