Okay...does anyone have any pictures of room interiors? I know, I know, I am the picture hog...but I would love to see even more pictures! You guys are such great photographers!!

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for good nonalcoholic drinks at AKL? Do you think any of the specialty drinks would work out as the virgin version (say that four times fast ). We are expecting a new little one...so the plans I had for sipping drinks by the pool need to be altered a bit.

I'm lucky that I can get on and post on this one thread these days! Did your life ever get so hectic, for such a long period of time, that you just feel like you are running like a hamster on a wheel? Well, lets just say..... I NEED to get to AKL soon............very soon!!!

Okay, you guru group of AKL knowledge...I need your help!

I am surprising DH and DD(5) with a Happy Birthday 2 night AKL CL get away weekend, with sunrise safari reservations already in hand! Now, delight me with what else that I should know and do during this three day getaway!

The only time we will spend in the parks is on Sunday, after the safari, so all the other time is in the AKL! What do I need to know, and what can I do for them surprise wise?

Remember, I am in touch with the IPO already, so whatever you suggest may come to fruition!

Okay, by then the major inside construction stuff should be done...so make full use of the wonders that are around every corner. Plan time to just hang out at the lodge and soak up the atmosphere. For your dd, make time to do the children's activities (which will be posted in the lobby) which are offered throughout the day. Flamingo feeding demonstration, night vision goggles to look out at the animals, the story around the fire pit, crayon rubbings, a parade with African insturments, cookie decorating. Those are just a few of the activities that take place at AKL. Also geared more for adults they have culinary tours and art work tours. Top that off with games/crafts poolside and you could stay at AKL for an entire weekend and never leave but stay busy and have fun!

Talk to the concierge about preordering a cake to be delivered to the room. We are doing this as a surprise for our boys this coming September. We chose the zebra stripes cake.

I also had the concierge email me a copy of the private dining offerings and saw a romantic dinner to be served on the balcony. If time permits I am going to arrange that for dh and myself...and get the boys their favorites to enjoy as well.

If you are willing to "go off resort" you could head to DTD for a little Disney shopping (maybe let the birthday girl pick out her own gift?!) and grab a bite to eat.

Do you have ressies for Boma or Jiko? Look into both of them. YUMMY!

And nothing is quite as grand as grabbing a frosty drink from the poolside bar and relaxing the afternoon away while your dd splashes in the zero entry pool!! It's great!

Ok, I am hearing such conflicting info on the boards lately about AKL, one post says the resort is completely going to close due to construction, but I have a hard time believing that!! Anyone there now that can confirm this info? I have a ressie for Aug 14th and have not been called, they say they are calling in chronological order but if that is the case then they skipped me because others are saying they received the call to move and there stay is in late August. I wish I knew the truth, Anyone?!!??

I too have seen the many conflicting reports posted, which is why I came to this thread to ask. Maybe someone here will know!! If I were you though, I'd call to find out and if you are willing to move if need be let them know that.

I for one would NOT want to move, we LOVE the lodge, but if this was affecting my trip I don't think I'd wait for them to call me......... I'm too impatient!! Good Luck - let us know what you find out if you do call.

jaycns...that's perfeact! We are eating at both Boma and Jiko while we are there! We are going to take full advantage of the lodge!

I have been reading your trip report from Sept...I love it! My DD has a crush on your youngest...she says, "Mommy, isn't he handsome..." Your trip report is great! I am really enjoying it, and so is DD!
