I have a few questions--what is IPO and who are Don and Juanita? TyRy, do you have any pics of the view from your room? Our TA put in a request for a room on Giraffe Trail (rooms 5018-5032). Are those rooms even available now? Thanks. Loving all the pics!

Once converted, you'd lose the daybed and closet, but gain an armoire, queen pull out, kitchenette (with mini-fridge, sink, microwave, coffee pot, etc) and flat screen TV and DVD player. The "studios" will sleep 4.

That, of course, is assuming your room isn't part of the 1BR half a 2BR "lockoff" suite...which it might be....not sure on that. But I'm assuming you don't need that EXACT room, and just one very much like it. :)

Thanks so much for the info and believe it or not, ours was not a Deluxe room. Just a plain old standard one that slept 4 - no pull out couch. That's why I wasn't sure if it was going to be converted. :)

If it was up to DH he'd want that EXACT room, simply because it was one of the few with a view not blocked by the trees..and he calls me picky!!!

Good Evening All!
Just wondering......anyone heard anything new about the dreaded construction/closing/moving.....all that nerve wrecking stuff that is going to make my last 2 months before the trip very shaky?????

Hoping to hear some good news soon, like all the villas above the pool views are finished perhaps?????

Oh, I forgot to ask this previously, but does anyone know if AKL has upgraded to the flat screen tv's in the rooms?

...you are SUCH a 'worry-wort'....:lmao: :rotfl2: [...but you know that I STILL love ya.... :teeth:]

Can you tell which ones were my favorite?

MOST of the "non-deluxe" 5th floor rooms are also scheduled for conversion...they're just a bit smaller than the other rooms...and are considered the "value" category for DVC. Less points to book them and a few less sq ft than the other DVC rooms (which comprise the Standard, Savannah, and Concierge categories).

The kicker comes from the fact that varying documentation has showed varying numbers of those rooms being converted. The difference, though, I think has been in those rooms that have a parking lot views on the 5th floor. Some docs show those as being converted to DVC, some don't. Since that's NOT your room ( :) )...the answer is still "Yes, it will be converted". Again, though, it's tough to tell whether it will remain a studio or be part of the 1BR part of a 2BR lockoff (the 1BR piece of the "puzzle" actually takes up 2 "bays", or former rooms).

Anyway - onto the pics:

View of zero entry pool - I have to say this pool was a thousand times better than the one at WL - we never felt crowded here as we did at the WL just days before.

Thank you again for the info - finally seems to make sense. The AKV is the only one DH has even given a second thought to about purchasing so maybe this will push him over the edge. Guess we'll see what happens when the DVC sales center opens at Woordfield next month....already have a promise from him to go check it out.

Or at least maybe it'll make him want to go back on October when I've been bugging him to go.

You are very welcome. I also get totally homesick when looking at them!!!:sad2:

Here's the views from our room....really kind of nice.

View of MGM Tower in distance...DH pointed that out first day as I was very unhappy (GASP!) about being at AKL after having come from the WL and seeing the castle. Boy did my attitude change after a couple of days!!! :goodvibes

Looking to the right...you could kind of see one of the savannahs, but we never really saw any animals.

Thanks, TyRy! Great pics! Gives me a better idea of what we might get with a pool view (what we requested)

I want to thank you all for the insights, photos and laughs. i have been reading this thread in preparation for our upcoming trip. We had booked our last 2 nights at AKL as a surprise for DS. Today I got the dreaded e-mail and we have been relocated to the Poly. I am bummed about not staying at AKL. I will get there one day though!;)

...what a shame!:sad1: [...now you will just HAVE to make another trip to WDW....;) ] Did you, at least, remember to make ressies for Boma or Jiko?? We have eaten several times at the Poly and it is a wonderful resort - at least you will still be at the "Happiest Place on Earth"...

I echo that, Kimmar! You can get your fix by spending time at the resort with dinner ressies. We've done that with the Poly as we can't afford to stay there!
