Kimmar, can you get that pressed pot in the morning at Boma? or is it just a dinner thing?

AKL experts...I'm trying to figure out my room request and have a question. I am going to request a room on Zebra Trail. We have a Savannah room booked. Is it redundant to request Zebra Trail and Arusha Savannah? I've heard that the middle of Zebra Trail has the best views. Would it be obnoxious to request "middle of Zebra Trail." Also, which floor is the best? I was planning on asking for "upper floor", but maybe a more specific 3rd floor would be better since we are going to have a stroller and could avoid elevators.

Thanks! I am really looking forward to our stay at AKL!!!!

ETA: I forgot to mention that proximity to the pool is also important to us. Is there any location on Zebra Trail that is preferable for this?

We just came back and stayed in 3522 which is in the middle of the zebra trail-savannah view with bunkbeds. It was very close to the elevator that goes straight to the pool area and Mara which was perfect for us. It did not face the Arusha side though--it faces the edge of the property. Initially I was disappointed but I think we saw more animals and our balcony area was more peaceful than the Arusha side. We did have a people pen below us but it didn't bother us and wasn't in our line of vision as we looked at the animals. If you want the Arusha side then you would need to specify Zebra and Arusha.

Thank you! From the map I was looking at, it seemed that all of the Zebra Trail rooms faced Arusha. I'm glad that I asked since that isn't the case.

Amarberry ... When we made our reservation at AKL we requested Zebra Trail, 3rd floor. We were assigned to Room 3427, which is the second building down, lobby level, overlooking Arusha Savanna. It was perfect! We took a half-minute walk to the right to get to the lobby, or a half-minute walk to the left to get to the elevator, which took us right down to the laundry room, pool, and Mara. On Zebra Trail, all the odd-numbered rooms face Arusha Savanna, and the even-numbered rooms face either the pool or Uzima Savanna.

...if you requested Zebra Trail, they will give you a pool-facing room if your ressies are "Pool view". Otherwise, you will get a "Savannah view" room if THAT is what your reserved.....

How many times we have walked by Kona Cafe and not even thought to try it! Hmmm...the Poly bar with the widescreen tv is our new football playoffs hangout...I may have to try it. Although, those new chai latte rum drinks are to die for!

I am starting to think about planning for our annual summer trip. We are 95% positive that it will be at AKL (our favorite). When we stay at AKL I usually book a regular savannah view. This year I am thinking about a deluxe room, either savannah or pool view. Is the difference in size of the room noticeable? Is it worth the additional cost? This trip will be myself, my DS (9yo), my sister and her DS (2yo). My sister is going to be bringing her stroller and knowing her, everything else she owns! So I am thinking we will need the extra room. Also, are deluxe rooms considered concierge? Or what if we went with connecting rooms, do you think we would have any luck getting them?

Ok, so, we paid our $200 deposit today! We're definitely doing CL at AKL in Nov!!!

It seemed silly when we realized it's still 10 months away, but I can't wait!

So, my question is, at what point do I contact the CL IPO? Obviously, I've got like 4 months before we can even start making ADR's, but when is it advised to get in touch with them? Or, just wait until they contact us?

A couple posts refer to a map of the lodge (I think). Does anyone have a link? Also, we have a pool view bunkbed room booked. ANy advice about a room to request? We are most concerned about quiet and close to the lobby and/or Mara, less concerned about seeing the animals from our room . . . Thanks!

We were at the Lodge over Christmas. Had 2 pool view rooms. On my room request, I asked for: non-smoking, Zebra Trail, close to lobby, 3rd floor (which is lobby level). All my requests were granted - the location was great and the rooms (3416 & 3422) were very quiet. HTH!

...any savannah view room will be reasonably more quieter tan a pool view room - except if you DO have a pool view room on a higher floor....

Thanks Kimmar for that list of refurbs. I had actually seen that last night! I think we have pretty much just decided on the lodge.......... waiting till noon for DH and then I'm going to make final arrangements!!!!

.....:thumbsup2

OMG that's an awesome map! I just printed it out and stuck it on the bulletin board next to my desk--it makes me happy just to look at it! The kids still think we are staying at All-Stars but I decided I couldn't spend 12 hours driving to WDW and not stay at AKL. It's such a great place. I appreciate the advice about the quiet rooms being savannah view. I am still debating that upgrade! An advantage to the pool view, though, might be that we will probably be closer to Mara and to the bus stop, which would be nice. If we stay with the pool view, I do think I will ask for a room on the top floor, to minimize the chances of lots of noise.

Jambo, we are heading out to AKL exactly one week from today!
I have a couple of quick questions...We are staying in CL, and I've read some of you post how wonderful Don, as in Donald Duck is, and it really is amazing how great the planning and interaction with guests is here. Do you actually get to meet him? I know they don't accept tips, but my kids have letters for him that they would like to give him...

We are booked for a Deluxe Club Level room...I know everyone asks a thousand times, but where can these be located?

Last question...the necklaces that they give kids, do they get them when they check in? Is there anything else kids get like the bucket at the Poly?
I'm trying to pack as light as possible...

Any other tips or suggestions? Thanks so much!

I never noticed noise from the pool in our room unless we actually had the balcony door open. We stayed in a 2nd floor room pool view. Maybe it depends where the room is located. We were on the zebra trail side of the pool room 2468. No noise at all. My 2 year old napped every day from 1-3 and we did not hear a peep.
