For my birthday I did Dolphins in Depth at EPCOT and at night we did California Grill

For my daughter's Birthday we did Hoop Dee Doo.

How about Cirque de Soleil?

I'm am just working my way through your tour report and am really enjoying it. I've just gotten to Dolphins in Depth and i have to do it - i almost cried just reading it!!!! How do i book it??? I'm coming from the UK so i won't be on any of the plans that have been mentioned

Jambo!

I have a few (okay...maybe more then a few) questions....

1. We have booked a concierge room for 9/2-9/9 this year. Now I am worried about the construction/having no lounge (I know they will have something...but I don't want to spend the extra money to have a little desk/food area set up in the corner of a hall or something). I know that nobody knows the answer....but has anyone heard any hintsof what might be at that time?

2. Sunrise safari and sunset safari...which did you like more? Would you suggest doing both? We have a son who is turning 8 while we are there (woo hoo wdw birthday)...the sunset safari has an age limit...would an 8 year old be able to go? What a cool gift would that be if he could!! What about the sunrise safari...I think I remember all of my boys being able to do that one (they will be ages 10, 8 (after the second day), and 5.

3. Do they still have activities throughout the day at AKL? When we stayed there back in late 2002 they had so many fun things going on at the resort.

4. This will be our first time doing concierge at AKL. We have stayed concierge at the Poly and the Beach Club. How does AKL concierge compare?

SORRY for all of the questions....but "lurking" on the thread I get the feel you are pretty much experts when it comes to AKL.

THANKS for any and all input and help.

Also...*yes, I have even more questions*

First, dh and I will be celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary the day after we check in...ideas on plans for me to make? Special somethings I could order for the room? Any unique ideas out there?

Second, ds2 will be turning 8 while we are there. The day after our anniversary (he was a great anniversary present one day late!). I would like to order a cake for him. I know the concierge can/will handle helping me plan that...but any great cake ideas? Any other ideas? ???

Third, out of fairness to my other children who never get to visit WDW on their birthdays (and ds2 has only celebrated ONE birthday in his entire life not at WDW) I think I would like to try and have an "unbirthday" something for them as well. I thought about another cake but with the dining plan and staying concierge and all of the snacks that brings....I am thinking maybe something else??? I have no idea. Just wondering if anyone else has ever done this and has any ideas for me.

THANKS A MILLION! And once again...JAMBO!

Boma is definitely worth it for breakfast! We would pass by it every morning on our way out the lobby, and it smelled so good, but didn't know if we wanted to spend $18 apiece for it, as all our TS's were for dinner. Turned out that all those dinnertime ADRs became such a hassle of having to stop what we were doing to get to our restaurant on time, and having to find transportation to get there, that we cancelled our last dinner TS and used that credit for breakfast at Boma instead. I'm so glad we did ... it was a fabulous buffet, and the food was scrumptious.

Thanks for the opinion! I decided to try and get a ADR for our last day. So we have all options. Actually that is not such a bad idea that if one evening we feel not up to go out and eat, we could still use the credit for breakfast! But then all those dinner ADRs are handpicked and I really want to eat at these places! Isn't it strange how all this having to have ADRs makes you obsess about the food at Disney??

You have a lot of great questions and you've certainly come to the right place - I just wanted to chime in the cake issue - the Zebra cake is way cool looking and very tasty. I can only imagine a young boy would love it. We certainly did.

Have you already booked your stay? I found it actually very efficient to book one of the specialist internet disney travel agents. I Think Dreams Unlimited is a sponsor of the disboards, but nearly everyone of the big unofficial websites is somehow linked with one of them. I have used them twice from Germany and it was great (well the second time I will find out once I get there in February). I found it easy to communicate via email, but called both times to pass on my credit card details. And in the end it worked extremely well for us with the exchange rate ! :thumbsup2 The great thing is that they took care of our ADRs, so no sitting on a bad phone line with someone in a callcenter on the other side of the ocean. And both times when a dsicount code came out it was immediately applied to our bookings. So in the end we will staying at the AKL for less than the price it would have cost us to stay at a moderate if we had booked through a German travel agent. :dance3:

I would recommend checking out the room service menue as found on allersnet: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_aklin.htm

Otherwise, from what I have read from the many concierge guest who have posted here, it seems that the concierge people are very helpful, so I think they would be helpful in arranging surprises!

I think the ultimative cake info :cake: is found on this thread:

I am sorry, it's late here and I am out of ideas at the moment! :sad1:

I've got the same question as JAYCN - but we'll be staying AKL Concierge June 9 - 14th - needless to say I am concerned about how the AKV remodel at AKL and the concierge are going to affect our stay.

Does anyone have any ideas?????

Thanks everyone

...On a side note, I am proud to say that my son and I have finally tried Zebra Domes. It happened two weeks ago. Ben has not been the same since LOL.

...and don't say that you weren't WARNED.....:rolleyes1

...may I make a suggestion?? How about planning the day around MK/DTD area?? I would make a late day (as in late morning/early afternoon) of MK, catch a boat to WL for ressies for an early dinner at Artists' Point (a VER-R-R-RY nice way to celebrate a birthday!), followed by a ride to DTD and an evening at Cirque du Soleil......

Well....ummmm.....ahhhh....I figured that you would be there already!!;)

THANK YOU ALL for the wonderful info!! Any further suggestions you have would be very welcome! I cannot wait until I am able to walk into AKL again and be "home".

Once again, JAMBO...and what a very welcoming and helpful thread this is! I am loving the pictures I am finding on this thread. I am looking forward to spending a bit more time around this waterin' hole as I await my trip to the watering hole of dreams...AKL here I come!!!:wizard:

OH and a very happy early birthday to you Kimmar!! WOW 50 years! What an awesome milestone!!

WOW WOW WOW..and thank you very much. SO many good answers all in one post...and you being tired too! You earn two thumbs up!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Thanks again!

personally i wouldn't go by the roomservice menu as it only really lists basic roomservice meals.. when i was starting to make our honeymoon i called the lodge directly and talked to private dining they told me 4-5 neat special options i could have them do.. these options are not listed in the roomservice menu.. i have decided to go with the honeymoon package i may also order a cake to be done on a different day also..

Hi,

We're already booked with a UK tour operator - unfortunately this means that i have to make any extra reservations myself, even for rooms. I think this will be our last trip for the next couple of years so i want to try and find the best places to make reservations to eat and also the best tours and things to do. The only park in the world we didn't do in 06 was Epcot (we ran out of time) and i really want to explore DTD. Any suggestions??
