Fellow NJ'er here, too. We were at AKL 8/25-9/2 and it was indeed awesome as I've reported. It was beyond our expectations and the only 'hiccup' that we were not prepared for was lack of drawer space. However, we quickly figured out a plan and made it work. The resort was fantastic, a must-do for us again.

....and yer trip report and pix ar-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-re....WHERE??!?!?!? :rolleyes1

I'm looking at booking AKL for the end of November next year. We are getting married in Disney so we would really like a romantic place to stay. We will be getting married at Sunset Pointe and will most likely eat at O'Hana's that night.

Do you think that AKL is the right resort for us? The other option was POR

Hey 'county neighbour'!! We'll be staying at AKL for our VR at the pavilion in Dec 07. We just love everything about Africa and wild animals, so that's why we chose AKL. It sounds a lovely place and I'm sure it will be perfect for you both - it's a little bit off the beaten track so pretty secluded and romantic!

Hi dee slack, when in December is you VR? We will hopefully getting married in the last week of Nov 07, so we'll be there from 26th Nov - 03 Dec.

My Fiance has always wanted to stay there, he also loves animals, but we really had to look into the cost of it. I'd heard great reports about POR too but I think AKL is the way to go

wallyb,

It's more of a feast than a tasting dinner at Jiko. You'll get three different entrees (usually filet, chicken and fish with side dishes), several appetizers, dips and a hugh dessert tray. It also comes with three South African wines. Everything was great. You and Paul won't be disappointed.

Kathy

Wow - Thanks so for the info!

Oh yeah, i got the free upgrade from standard to Savannah View for free! We were on the Zebra trail and it was awesome. Saw the baby zebra and giraffe. :goodvibes We went to the Arusha trail to see if the view was better from that side, however we didn't notice any better view from that side even though there's alot of chat about the Arusha trail being the best.

A baby zebra?!?! I didn't know there's a baby zebra there, only heard about a baby giraffe. Please tell me more! Anyone know how old it is or have pictures? We'll be there in 3 weeks and my DD8 LOVES zebras (which is the main reason we upgraded to the AKL.

Hey Janet, only 22 days for me so maybe we'll run into each other there?! Maybe we can enjoy an "adult beverage" poolside while the kids swim! It's just me and my DD8 going on this trip (Sept. 27-30)

I'll try and find a photo of us to post so you'll recognize us if you see us. :thumbsup2

My fiance and I are staying at the AKL for our honeymoon in October! We are soooooo excited about it, it seems to be a very fun and romantic lodge. I've never been to the AKL, or even to Disney, but from what I have read, even the Standard view rooms at the AKL are pretty awesome, so that might save you guys some money. We booked the pool view, which is beautiful, but it would be amazing to get an upgrade to savannah too....but, we won't be disappointed with the pool view either.

Anyway, I've learned there are tons of cozy corners and places to view the animals, so if you want to save some money you can book Standard and still have a fantastic honeymoon!!! (and really, to be honest, how much time is really going to be spent looking out the window--if you know what I mean!! :teeth: )

I've been trying to stuff as much Disney info as I can into my brain pre-honeymoon so we both aren't completely clueless when we get down there, but one thing I've been having trouble just keeping track of is when each of the nightly shows are.

Epcot has IllumiNations, I remember that one--but I know there is also "Wishes", a light parade on the water, fireworks, and more...

Can someone please tell me what each of the shows are, what times they are and which "land" they are in? Also, any "hints" on good places to watch these shows?

I have already booked our dinner reservations, but I want to adjust them so we can catch at least one or two of these shows.

Thanks all! :goodvibes

We're hoping to have our VR on Dec 11th, but have a while to wait until Disney can confirm that date.
We'll be arriving in Florida Dec 6th (2 nights Royal Pacific @ Universal) before getting to AKL 9th for 9 nights then to save money we've then got our last 5 nights at H.I. on I-Drive. I'm sooo looking forward to AKL - there have been some fantastic reports and photo's of that place I'm excited already!!!

We live in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, if you're on the Notts side of Derby's.

Bummer we check in on the 30th. It would be nice to have a drink & be able to chat with another adult while indulging :teeth:

We are looking at doing a Wishes Cruise, you watch the fireworks from a boat. You can also do Illumination cruises too.
