JAMBO! The UN-official AKL Thread ~ UPDATED(short film/pg 8 & slideshow/pg 12) Part 2

If it's any help at all, I called AKL directly yesterday because I needed to make a decision on where to stay, and I was told that guests will see and hear construction, but that they will try to have the bulk of the noise between 9 am and 6 pm. If you have a savannah view, you will see a partition where the construction begins.
Hope that helps!!!

I am feeling pretty good about my standard view room I booked for July 07 right now. I am thinking of upgrading to pool view though. I really don't think the noise will be that bad. Although, I do plan on afternoon pool or rest breaks, so hopefully we will be ok. We need two rooms this trip, so in order to keep cost from being outrageous, I figured I'd book either WL or AKL standard views, which ever were available with AAA rate during my time frame. I must admit to being a little let down that WL wasn't available. We haven't stayed at either, but have visited AKL for Boma and thought the pool area was awesome! But, I'd prefer WL for more transport options, beach area and proximity to monorail resorts for dining.

I just got off the phone and the CM I spoke to said they had a meeting about the construction at AKL this morning she said that the construction at the main lodge itself will be complete partially May and the rest July. She said we should hear much because the rest of the construction is going on far enough away where they are building new savannahs for the DVC villas. I was also told that I would lose my discount if I tried to switch hotels because I used the 40% code and being it is expired I would lose it. So I am stuck

What are the chances of an upgrade to concierge at check in. FYI, I am willing to pay ($35? $50? extra/night) for it. I just don't know if they do anything like that.

I have been calling for weeks trying to switch, but with the 40% code I used, I keep getting told that there are none available.

Uh, oh - where's the CL??? Now I'm worried! :scared1: Sounds like it's time to get on the phone to Don & Juanita for an update. Whoever gets an answer first, please post, OK?! :flower3:

Yes, I will. I am staying there for two nights (to get away, don't laugh) and will find out. It looked pretty darned empty up there.

My family, DH, DS11, DD9 and I will be going to WDW for the very first time ever and staying at AKL. Can't wait! It's a secret for the kids, I won't tell them until a couple of days before we go. Hope I can keep the secret. So I have booked a savanna room and pd the $200 deposit. Now my mom said she may want to come with us which would be great. My question is this: Can a family of 5, 3 adults, 2 kids share one room at AKL? Or do we have to move to another resort? If we have to move, where to and is it too late to do so? We would hate to have to go to the expense of 2 rooms. Help. Any suggestions? Oh yeah, we're going from Sept 4-12, 2007. Sorry for all the questions and thanks everyone - great forum by the way.

Unless you book a one-bedroom suite, or an ajoining room, it ain't gonna happen. Will someone please tell I Run Long I am wrong for her sake?! Even with two queens or one bed, plus bunkbeds, I don't even think AKL will allow you to have this many people in one room. No matter what resort you are in.

Just thinking out loud...one bedroom suites at any of the DVC properties? (Saratoga Springs, Old Key West)...

I don't know for sure, but I could swear I have read of families of five staying at POR. Two beds plus the trundle.

Yes, you can do five at POR in the Bayou section. It sleeps five with a trundle bed but the trundle is small and intended for someone under 5 feet and 100 pounds.

I thought I read somewhere that there are deluxe rooms at AKL that sleep five. No? :confused3

:lmao: sorry, had to. ;) you could even run home quick if you forget something vital! but really, staying at the lodge, even if you just live down the street, would feel like a getaway!

So I am understand that by end of July first week of August we should not be disrupted for construction? We are taking afternoon breaks everyday and if I have to deal with a ton of construction noise that is not going to be a nice afternoon vacation nap. :(

Okay, I just switched from POFQ to AKL for April 5-10. I have only read up to page 49 on this thread!! We are so excited to be staying at AKL, even though all I could get was a standard view. Will we be disappointed? Actually, I know we won't, we'll be vacationing at Disney! I will be working my way through all the posts between now and April 4th!!!!

A deluxe room sleeps 5 - either 2 queen beds with a sofa bed or 1 queen, bunks and a sofa bed. For bunk beds, it is a separate category now so has to be booked that way.

I Run Long,

Sharon gave you the correct info for the AKL. You will need to book a deluxe savannah room for five people. From what I have been reading, these rooms are hard to get.

Thanks for everyone's feedback. So, I can book a room that will sleep 5 without having to have 2 rooms or a suite? Can I get it as a savanna room or is it a different category all together?:confused3 If that is the case, what is the category called if indeed there is a different name. Thanks all.

Unless construction has changed this, there are 2 categories of room you can book for your family of 5: *deluxe savannah view* and *deluxe pool view*. As has been stated though, due to the DVC construction, the number of those rooms is becoming very limited. Best thing to do is get on the phone to Disney Travel and check availability. Good luck and let us know how you do. :)

Thanks. I'm going to call my TA right away. I think it is best if I go ahead and book it this way. If my mom doesn't come we'll just have a bigger room I guess.:confused3
