Not only is it a great restaurant but the Chef, Jose Andres is a rare individual. Besides being a world class Chef he's a world class humanitarian. His work during Natural Disasters and now during the Coronavirus Pandemic is awe inspiring. If you're not up on what he's done and currently doing just do a quick Google search. I'm not trying to be overly dramatic but he makes me want to be a better person.

I agree about Jose Andres, over the last few years he acted while other dawdled.

We ate at Jaleo in December and is now one of our favorite on-property restaurants. It is like a little bit of Spain in the states. I have been to Barcelona several times for cruises where we would do several day pre/post cruise stays.

Except their customer service is the pits.

I'd made an ADR several months early. About a week before the dinner,I received an email that the restaurant was going to be closed for a private event. There was absolutely no help offered for a replacement ADR, either for the same night at a different restaurant or at Jaleo for a night of our choosing. I wasn't looking or asking for any kind of discount for their change, just a table.

literally nothing else was available at DS from 6:30 to 11:30. Our original ADR was at 730- we could not make any ADR prior to 6:45 (not that one was available) since I was working a conference until 6:30.

Went and purchased a gift card that supports employees, since we will eat there on our next trip. Also donated to his World Kitchen group. I have been meaning to donate to them after the last hurricanes. No time like the present. Just an amazing person.

Such a late cancelling of a reservation is really inexcusable. I can see a few weeks or a month about just a week.

When you received the email, did you try to contact them? If not, you should have. While they probably couldn't help you with ADR at a other restaurants, they should have tried to squeeze in another night.

Unlike other restaurants at DS who have sister restaurants, Jaleo doesn't. If you did contact them by phone, you probably talked to a host/hostess type person. If they were of no help, I would ask to speak to a manager, preferably the GM. If that doesn't work then I would at least ask for the GM's name, email address and a mailing address. I would then the snail/email route to reach out to the GM.

Of course I contacted them. They are fully aware of the popularity of DS. If they had cancelled (or worked with another restaurant in DS to block availability, even if it wasn't a restaurant I preferred, I'd be a bit irritated, but accepting. And restaurants work with their neighbors quite a bit, even if they don't share ownership and especially among professional restaurateurs. To cancel my reservation in fsvor of someone else at the last moment is unacceptable.

i agree they should have at least offered me another date/time with the hopes I could have used it. They could, at a minimum, have offered me a paella to go (at an appropriate charge).

I can see you sitting out front eating paella on the sidewalk. I would totally do that.

Did you ask? Were you talking to a manager? If who you were talking to some random front line employee, I would ask to speak to a manager.

As a follow up Jaleo is selling Gift Cards on their website at a 20% discount. All proceeds from the cards are going to support his employees during this shutdown.

I’m not buying any gift cards. As much as I support small business, I am not going to get stuck w useless gift cards if the business goes under. Ymmv
