Hi everyone. We'll be driving next weekend and was wondering if anyone uses the Jacksonville bypass or do you go right through Jacksonville? Any opinions on it appreciated!

Thanks all!

Depends when you are going through. We did the through route at 2 in the morning, wasn't bad, but bypass on way home. Construction was happening in the city.

Jacksonville has been nonstop construction for as long as I can remember. It isnt as bad now as it has been though.

It really depends on when youre going through. If its close to rush hour, use the bypass (though it does seem a lot longer). Keep in mind that in the south, Fridays tend to be days people leave work earlier too.

We use the bypass on the way down only because we overnight near Orange Park mall. Breaks up the driving for us and only leaves 2-3 hrs the next morning. FYI the Blanding St. exit (Orange Park Mall) has lots of restaurants and hotels (thats where we stay).

It seem every road in our city in under construction. I would go straight thru Jax. Its hard for me to keep up with all the detours just to get to work.

I would not worry about driving thru town with a pop up. Jacksonville is a non stop construction zone. You will be good either way though. I would go the bypass coming in though because where I-95 meets I-10 is a cluster. 295 is not under any construction right now and as long as you don't hit it before 9 a.m. or after 4 p.m (rush hours) you'll be fine.

Good luck

Just keep in mind that if you stay on 95 at one point you have to be in the left lane, I think it is right @ the split for the bypass. I did not know that the 1st time I drove down with the camper and was in the right lane I did not think I would be able to get over in time but a very nice person blocked each lane as I moved over helping me and I never got a chance to thank him.

Take the 9a Exit to bypass downtown....Living in Jax., it is the best route for you to go...The exit is just past the airport exit ...

I have friends that come in from out of town and they use that everytime...It eventually drops you off at the end of 95 just outside of Jacksonville...

Trust me, even if there was no traffic going through downtown, you are better off going that direction...

PM if you have any questions on the exact route...

Thanks everyone for the great tips...I'm printing them all out and will hand them over to hubby for the "official planning"!

shawnandjeff, please let everyone know about the trip, as there will be many of us coming through that way.

stack, surferrat, and tina: are there any plans for them to complete the 295 loop on the east side..? Or has that already been done..?

the I295 Connector to 95 is already connected...So if you are coming from that direction that is the best way...

From I95....9a is the way to go....

No matter what you run into some type of construction in Jacksonville...Everyone of our Major Roads are under construction....

I 295 is 35 miles, taking I 95 is 25 miles if that helps. I always take 295 but in the middle of the night it might be different.

Since this thread seems to be good for directions, may I ask....Is there any other direct way to get to Disney with out taking 95 to Daytona then to I -4?
Thought , I might ask.
Thanks

I295 is the west loop while 9a is the east loop which will be renamed to I295 once it is all interstate.

In my experience I295 will take much longer than either I95 or 9a.

To me it is a toss up I95 or 9a. I say this because 9a really ties up around J Turner Butler Blvd during rush hour which is the time you would want to use 9a to avoid I95.

If you take I95 make sure to stay in one of the two left lanes as you approach the I95 I10 split.

Please don't any of ya'll send these poor people on 9A until the overpass over Butler Blvd. is finished I think in 09. There is a huge construction zone (bridge being built and roads widened) after where you would split off to I-295. Right now it's a PITA. Even if it's 10 miles longer save your nerves and just do the bypass. That's why they call them a bypass people. lol. That const. zone I spoke of is murder right now. If it get's better I'll post more later. I-295 right now has nothing going on and is all clear. IMO, I would use it and you'll be south of a mess. If you don't believe me go ahead and go 95 and we'll see who's right.

lol...! We'll be coming through on 3/31..and since we are heading to the fort with our 35ft. trailer, we'll be taking the bypass thank you very much. An extra 10-15 minutes is no big deal to me. We are also considering the 417 around Orlando...
