Has anyone heard if A Nightmare Before Christmas will be at WDW Haunted Mansion this year? I kinda remember there was a chance it would get added this coming Halloween?

I doubt it will ever happen. WDW is a destination resort, as DL is more of a community resort. WDW does not need anything to draw guests for that time period like DL does.

As I understand it, a "Nightmare" makeover of Haunted Mansion was offered to WDW years ago, when they created it for DL. WDW said no, so the setup went to Tokyo instead -- where you can still see it today during their Halloween celebrations. I actually saw it there last year, it truly is a fantastic makeover of the ride.

I'm not the biggest NBC fan, but I saw the DLR makeover a few years ago and was blown away. I expected a few cosmetic changes but experienced what was nearly a completely new experience. I actually like the NBC movie more after having experienced this. I sure wouldn't want to change HM permanently, but jeez that was cool:thumbsup2

THat's a shame and very shortsighted. Sigh, "leadership" at WDW has been really bad for the last 10 years.

You have to remember, the MK is a buisness. Why close an attraction for weeks to do an overlay that is not necessary? DL needed something to get guests into the park in what is usually a slow season.....MK doesnt need this, so why spend the money? :confused3

We'll have to agree to disagree on the business merits. I personally feel that is a shortsighted POV and closing in September to bring in an overlay that is special and could potentially bring in new guests during several slow times from the oct 1 to Dec31 period.

You would also have a lot of angry guests during the weeks before and after the overlay due to the attraction being closed for instalation and the removal.

Between the Halloween parties, and the Christmas parties, and Thanksgiving weekend, there are enough things going on in the world to attract guests during that time frame. A NBC overlay is not going to bring enough guests to warrent the cost.

Well they are taking down It's A Small World for an extended period so maybe they can add Nightmare to that?? Now that sounds fun! ;) :thumbsup2

Well, you can't really say that as there is no way to prove either way whether it would bring in guests or not. Without doing it, we just don't know.

As for the shutting down, most of the times I have seen HM shutdown for Refurb is either September (to be ready for October) or in January. People will always complain about shutdown rides... the trick is to limit the schedule... so having Haunted Mansion down is ok; having Space Mountain, Big THunder Mountain, POTC and HM down is BAD.

As I said, differences of opinion. Neither of us is going to convince the other they are correct and unfortunately, the only way to do so is to actually do it, which we know ISNT ever going to happen.

I guess my point is that Disney keeps raising prices while cutting services. It's already straining many people. Since 1998, ticket prices have more than doubled. It took the first 27 years to reach that level in the first place (although part of that was the A-E ticket system). The ticket growth over the last decade has been unprecedented. If it continues this way (and so far signs are pointing to yes) Disney will start to price themselves out as people won't view as high the value for dollars spent. Things like these special overlays increase that perceived value.

Hey I'm not the only one that feels this way about Disney's prices for the current value... Pete has ranted on it numerous times. Sadly for those of us who go to Orlando, Management at Disney World seems to be far inferior to the management at Disneyland. Just my humble opinion.

I miss the Country Bears Christmas Overlay. I wish they'd do a new one with either some public domain songs or with songs not under copyright. Unfortunately, I'm afraid Disney will kill that attraction completely. It's dead at DL, we'll see if WDW follows. As cheesy as it is, I still enjoy going.

I love the NBC overlay at DL, but agree it makes no sense for WDW, and would needlessly disappoint many people who are making those "once in a lifetime" trips. Maybe just having it at DLR will convince more people to make a visit to the other coast, where they will NOT be disappointed.

I was told that the rehab of HM included adding the fixtures for the Nightmare additions. There were no specific plans to actually do the Nightmare decorations, but they wanted to be able to if the decision was changed.

Sorry, but I can't see WDW eliminating the CBJ anytime soon.

However, I do agree that that show's Xmas overlay does need to return indeed.

Let's hope it happens this year. With all the construction going on in the MK, especially in Fantasyland, they do need to give the guests a reason to keep visiting that park, even while the construction is going on.

I totally agree. We've been to DL once. It was in the month of Nov. and we did HM with the NBC overlay many times. It was cool, but as HM is one of my favorites, I kept thinking ahead to "next time" when all the stuff was down so I could really compare it to WDW's HM ! Really, NBC just wasn't a huge hit for Disney (compared to say Lion King) and just doesn't have a broad appeal . . . and WDW has to appeal to a "broader" audience then DL and if they did the overlay would probably have more guests saying "what the heck is this???" than "cool . . . "

Well nothing is fixed yet but it is unpredictable that anytime it will be declared that jack is in the film or not. So that can be the unpredictable story for us and whatever they will make, we will see and get the enjoyment weather the jack will there or not.

NBC has a HUGE global appeal, especially with the teens and young adults. While the theatrical releases may not have made huge profits, the merchandise has always sold well, and was frequently even found in stores like Hot Topic before Disney started re-marketing it.

If anything, NBC has a much broader appeal than most Disney movies, which cater more directly to children.

Sorry, I just disagree...it seems WDW does too :confused3 --at least so far. Remember too, that an entire resort has been influenced by a 'children's movie' -- Animal Kingdom Villas (and some would argue, AKL as a whole).
