We WERE (past tense) Colts fans, until that game on Dec. 26. They had a shot at history, and they threw it away. It would be ever so ironic if they lost to the Jets, fair and square, with all their starters next week.

You know, most people don't know or care who won the Super Bowl in 1971, or 1973.

But even the casual football fan knows of the legendary 1972 Dolphins. To have had a shot at that, and tossed it aside is just a travesty.

In sports, don't we all try to do our best? Give it our all? Put everything on the table? And what kind of lesson does this teach our children - don't do your best, go ahead and lose, because "it doesn't matter"??

The management and the owners will lose out the most if they don't win. The players are under contract.

I was in the city when they lost that game.

I was also in the city when Robert Irsay snuck out of Baltimore under cover of the night to move the team to Indy. From that time on, I've never trusted the Colts owners and managment.

And I have relatives who continue to live in Indianapolis who are very irritated at the management's demands for a new stadium, paid for by taxpayer money, and by people who will never be able to afford a Colts game ticket, but will continue to bring in money to line the pockets of the owners.

This is going to get off topic of the Jets (or Colts v Jets) but since you brought it up.....

This city has flourished since the Colts got here. Downtown bears no resemblence to what it was 25 years ago. Business are moving into downtown regularly and are filled, especially on game day. I was there Saturday night and everyplace we walked by had people lined out the door 3+ hours before kick-off and the downtown mall is overflowing. The Economic impact from having the Colts is huge in terms of national exposure and conventions and the like that have come to town that never would have considered Indy before. If the Colts had left (like some short sighted people wanted to happen before the new stadium wsa built) that tax income they they generate would have had to been recouped another way.

The Super Bowl in '12 alone is expected have an economic impact of $300-$400M and bring great exposure to Indianapolis.

I agree with you. We are fortunate enough to have season tickets, so we were at the first game against the Jets. I was so mad when I saw Painter come in I could have spit nails! I wanted the team to have a shot at 19-0.

I was so irritated that I ended up writing a letter to Irsay explaining my frustration with Bill Polian(we all know it was his decision) and the choice to pull the starters. However, I also told him how proud I am to be a fan of this team because of the way the players handled themselves. They had a shot at history taken out of their hands(literally) and I didn't hear an ill word spoken towards management. There is nothing I want more than for these players to be able to win the Superbowl.

Do I like what Polian and management did? Nope. Do I still support the players and all they have accomplished? Absofreakinlutely!!!!!!:cheer2

Peyton can't handle the Jets defense. Remember the game was extremely close before they pulled the starters. No running game can hurt indy when Peyton has to throw against the Jets cornerbacks. Should be an interesting game.

That just about killed me watching Peyton's frustration during that game. He wanted to get back in there so desperately. It was really disappointing, but I completely agree with you. I value the players and really appreciate what the Colts have brought to the NFL. Even thought they weren't perfect this season, I'm still rooting for them.

I'm definitely not taken this game for granted and I seriously doubt the Colts think it'll be a cakewalk either. Certainly the Colts are the better team but all that matters is who plays better on game day. The analysts are talking about the Jets' defense but last week they were saying the same thing about the Ravens and expected the Colts to have some difficulty that didn't materialize. Time will tell. At least the playoffs will be interesting this year! I'm excited to see the Saints and Vikings. That game should be very interesting.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. I know a lot of people who feel that way. Just because the Jets are viewed as the underdogs doesn't mean they can't win. Stuff like that has happened before...where everyone writes off the other team and boom, they win. Hopefully, that won't happen to the Colts but still.

I do have to say, I'm relieved the Jets knocked out the Chargers. I'd much rather see the Colts face the Jets than the Chargers. Eek!!

I would bet if you listen to New York fans you would hear the same thing. Heck, I bet there are ads for ticket packages in their newspaper as well.

It really doesn't matter what the fans or local media say since they aren't the ones taking the field on Sunday. After what happened in the '05/'06 season, I don't think our players take any game for granted.
