just a side note to this:
read the book... the movie cuts out the final chapter, which (to me) is the whole point of the story....
What movie is the OP talking about??

I don't think that a boy + nail polish = gay
BUT I DO think that pink nail polish on a man = he looks feminine whether he's gay or not, and I would NOT want my husband wearing pink nail polish. In my world, straight men do not wear pink nail polish. I don't care if they think it looks nice or if it's their favorite color. If I saw a man I knew was straight with pink nail polish on, I'd think he was wacky.
How many of you would be ok with your men wearing red or pink nail polish to work or even just around the house? How many honest Disers are here?

I honestly would not care and I am not going to tell him that he can't. I don't think it is my place to tell my BF what he wears or what he can and can't do to his body. I don't even think I would notice if it was some random person. I am not that most observant person.
I do think the issue here is more letting young boys do this and not male adults, since letting a young boy do this is seen as confusing them as what gender roles are.
If wearing nail polish makes the man happy, I'll give him a full manicure.
Oh! Phew, I was getting worried. Thank goodness cricket isn't very popular in the US, so I should be safe.
Or maybe pink+boys+nail polish=cricket players![]()

It's ok if I'm the only one who wouldn't be ok with their husband wearing nail polish.
But ask your man if he'd wear pink nail polish. I'm thinking he'd say hell no. If he doesn't, fine. He's your man, not mine.
Ok, I see I'm confusing the issue.
I just feel that if it's ok for little boys to wear pink nail polish, why is it odd for men to wear it. But I think i may be the only person here on the Dis that would strongly object to my husband wearing pink nail polish and I'd tell him so. Pink nail polish on a man does = gay to me, or at the very least odd. And I didn't marry an odd or gay man, I don't want to be married to an odd or gay man, so the nail polish comes off.

I also didn't marry a man who wears nail polish and I'm quite ok with that. However, I did give birth to a son who is entirely his own person and I will love and accept him, no matter his preferences or sexuality. I chose my husband, but I did not choose my son. He may like pink, or choose to wear nail polish, or be straight, or gay, or a football player. Any way, he is my son and I will love him.
My 8 month old son likes to sit in my closet and play with my strappy heels. That has as much bearing on his sexuality as a preschooler choosing to paint his nails pink.
You know, some of the piling on here is getting a little disturbing. I can't help but think about how easy it is to do so from the safety and anonymity of your home, which is hundreds, if not thousands of miles away from the rest of us.
I also think that it's really easy to create an online persona under those conditions, that might be a little more open minded and accepting than the actual user.
Those of you who are okay with little boys wearing pink nail polish, let me ask you this: would you allow him to wear it to school? Isn't the problem with bullying serious enough now, for kids who dress in a way that is considered mainstream? How about a dress? Would you let your boy wear a dress to school? Ah...I thought not. Maybe we really aren't quite as open minded as our online personas now, are we?
I'm not sure how so many people in one thread are so accepting of this. I am friendly with a lot of men in my circle of friends, and most of them are very tolerant and open minded. I'm pretty safe in assuming, however, that not even one of them would wear pink nail polish in public. Not even one.
