J.C. Penny's "fair & square" pricing...the results are in

The store by me is never crowded anymore. Honestly I use to get my DS the Arizona jeans on sale cheaper with the coupon. I really don't shop in there anymore.

The flyers the send in the mail are done very nice, but it's a waste of money in my opinion.

Personally, I think what JcP didn't take into account was that people shop the sale flyers. If they see something they percieve is a "good deal" they buy it, whether they planned to or even need it. Now people are only going when they need something. They are loosing out on those, "What a great deal" sales.

I do miss looking at the ads and looking for coupons.

I like JCPenny for my DDs clothes--she needs their 1/2 sizes. We were in there about 2 months ago as she needed new clothes for spring and summer. When we bought what she needed, DD even remarked gosh that's a lot of money for so few clothes you used to buy more than that for less money.:lmao:

I have been in the store that one time since the change. I don't care for it.

They used to have a very nice girls plus section. My DD's both matured a bit early, are a bit more curvy. Its not only the prices that have changed. The selection now is horrible!

I get that you might prefer JCP's strategy if you aren't a sale shopper, but if you are, it just doesn't make sense to shop at JCP anymore. Yes, the Kohl's price was higher on those shorts, but I never shop at Kohl's without at least a 20% off coupon which would have made Kohl's a better deal for me.

I just think the whole idea is misguided - at this price point in this economy, more shoppers are going to be looking for deals in the form of coupons and sales. For the most part, the "not a sale shopper" crowd isn't choosing JCP in the first place.

A little OT, but I want to know how you get a Kohl's coupon for 20%. I've never gotten one for over 15%. NEVER, EVER! I don't know anyone else who has either. I really started to think they didn't exist.

We are finding great deals at JcPenney despite the pricing change.

I gotta say this thread makes me laugh. Walmart gets away with their stupid Rollback prices, yet people are saying they feel insulted with JcPenney doing the same thing? I don't get it...?

I hate Walmart and hardly ever shop there, but when I look at their flyers, some of the rollback stuff is still more expensive than my local drug store or grocery store, yet they sucker lots of people into thinking that they are cheaper on a regular basis (excluding their blow out/anniversary sales of course).

I always get 20% off Kohl's coupons! Tiger

Apparently I'm the only one that likes not having to wait for a coupon or a sale. I like the new way and I'm surprised it's done so poorly.

I bought a pair of cute wedge shoes today at JCP. My daughter and I were at the mall and I was looking for a pair of summery wedge shoes for me that weren't 6 inches tall like they almost all seem to be this season and we decided to check out JCP after not finding anything at several other department stores. They were marked $35 which was pretty good but when I took them to the register, they rang up at $24. I was really surprised because I thought they didn't have sales anymore but I was pleased.

Edited to say that I just looked at the jcpenneys website and discovered that a lot of shoes are "best" pricing today since it's a Friday so apparently I got a best price deal.

They plan to change their advertising to 'do the math.' Because insulting people's intelligence is so effective.

Yeah, I did the math.
Old price was $12.99, now it's $11.
Old item was on sale for 40% often, or was bought with a $10 off $25 coupon, and sometime both.

Rounding 12.99 to $13.
I can get the item everyday at $11 now.
I used to get 2 of them same item for $16 with $10 off $25, and less than $8 during a 40% off sale.

I did the math, it's a big fail JCP.
Haven't spent a dime since the change, and will not until they change it back.

I found 2 adorable Bonnie Jean dresses for DD this week at JCP, $11 each. Those same dresses at Kohl's and Macy's were at least double this price even on sale. That being said, I don't wander into JCP any more just because I have a coupon so no more spontaneous purchases. I also think those big heavy books are a waste of money, they go straight into the trash. I checked out 3 different stores in 3 different cities (we were traveling) and each store had a huge selection of plus size kids clothes, very few registers open and a lot of open space so they all felt empty. I like the idea, but honestly many of the girls styles they carry aren't something DD or I like, so I don't see us shopping there often. I still might check them out for household goods though.

Boy am i saving money!!!!

Because i dont shop at JCP anymore...I was the person that waited for the $9.97...$6.97.....$2.97 clearances and did i ever clean up...

I mean to tell you i would spend many thousands at jcP....I buy all my aunts clothes, my grand kids and many adults..besides my own and my DH...

No more i hate the store...deals are soooo hard to find...this new CEO needs to go back to APPLE stores....

I would go to JCP at least once a wk..the mall is 1/2mi from our house...Its so depressing...

I am not surprised at the way things have turned out so far for this business..

I only shop when I need something, so lower prices all the time would be more appealing to me. That said, JCP has no idea if I like their new pricing. I don't shop that often! I don't think I've been shopping since they started the new campaign.

So many of my friends I've seen who always buy on sale buy so much stuff that they end up spending way more than I do just going in and buying what I need at the best current price. Then they don't get around to wearing it, so what's the point?

I assume JCP would want my friends as customers way more than they want me!

I don't buy a lot of my own clothes at JCP but I do get dd's there. The junior dept. at our JCP is great and has some really great looking clothes. I don't buy anything because I have a coupon or because its on sale. I do buy when we need something.

DD had to have new clothes for graduation. She picked out a great outfit that is beautiful on her for less than $40. I also noticed that the swim suits in her size were cheaper than the one that I bought at WalMart. She will have to have a second one and we will definitely go to JCP.

Also bought a couple of tops for work for me and both were less than $15.

I like the fact that I can go when I need to buy something and can get a decent deal on it.

I agree that some of the girls' clothes are good.

I bought my DD a very fancy dress for our Disney cruise in the summer. It was on sale for $22.00 at Jc Penney - yes they still do have featured monthly sales. Girls' dresses were April's featured sale, so the dress was regularly $30.00, and then on sale for a cheaper price.. A similar dress would have been more at Kohl's, even with coupons.

We deal with bottom line pricing, so if the price is right, then that is how we decide where to shop.

I am floored at the whole psychology of retail - people will willingly pay more for an item, because of a sale. Never mind that the bottom line price is more.

As I said before, this is how Walmart has suckered so many people into thinking it's a great deal.

We know our prices very well, and so we are confident in our ability to get the best bottom line price for our item. Total price paid is what is important, and not the process by which we secured that bottom line price.

Today will be the first day I've gone to JCP since the new pricing started. I used to go in every once in awhile, and always found good deals. Just didn't go as often because it's not as convenient as other stores. I have fallen into the Kohl's trap, with the sales/coupons/Kohl's cash....although I don't know why. I don't like shopping there. I feel it is a trap as soon as I get in there! But I also can never seem to find much that I want. I have a ton of gift cards I got for my birthday that are still sitting in my wallet because I can't find any clothes! Which is really sad because I have to replace my entire wardrobe because nothing fits anymore. But unless I am 16 or 60, they don't have clothes that I want to wear. So...hoping JCP will work out better for me, even though I have to spend my own money!

I have only been once since the change, but honestly I really have not been shopping them for a while before then. I feel like the clothes are for teens or executives. I find more casual basic items on sale from lands end, gap, or old navy. I used to love Arizona items, but they seem to have ditched that brand or ignored it.

I also loved their housewares and bedding, but they seem to change those lines every 6 months and have limited the "home" line of solids and basics.

I like the idea of the pricing because I have very little mall shopping time anymore and as much as I love a sale or coupon, I can't justify a 30 min trip to the mall just to see what they have. I have never purchased anything for myself in Kohls. I just never see anything.

As an online shopper, their website is not an easy one to navigate. They should work on that.

The new store is really nice looking inside.
