Nathan is turning 2 on Friday and I swore that I was not going to let things get out of hand when it came to planning his party. He is certainly more aware this year than last year but I really wanted to make it pretty low key.

The guest list is pretty small (5-7 adults and 2 kids - including Nathan) so I did well there but then I bought the party stuff! I am doing a Sesame Street theme for him this year. I did Mickey last year and he really LOVES the Sesame Street gang so it seemed like a good idea.

I got the invitations, the Elmo cake plates, the Big Bird dinner plates, the big Cookie Monster napkins, the little Zoe napkins, the Grouch and Bert/Ernie goodie bags, character tablecloth, etc. I bought an Elmo cake pan so I can make his cake. I am doing little goodie bags (Playdoh, stickers, candy) and Elmo/Cookie Monster cookies for his daycare class on Friday. I made more elaborate goodie bags (Elmo ball, crazy straws, Playdoh, playdoh cutter, rubber duckie bubbles, little Sesame Street puzzle, more stickers and candy, etc.) for Nathan and my best friends little boy who will be at the party and for DH's cousin's daughter who could not make it. Plus I am making hot wings, veggie tray, tortilla wraps, and cracker/cheese tray for snacks at the party.

That doesn't even count the gifts! I don't think we did too bad but I have been picking up a few things over the past few months as I saw them so it ended up being more than I intended just because I forgot how much I had put back and I hit a few good sales. He is getting from us a My First Leapad, 3 First Leappad books, 2 puzzles, 2 music CD's, some glow-in-the-dark stars for his room and a little CD player to put in his room so he can listen to music when he goes to sleep. Plus I am sure to pick up a few books for him tomorrow when I hit the 50% off sale at Scholastic!!!

AAARRRGGGHHHH!! Make me stop!!! I really didn't want to go overboard. I know Nathan will love it but it is starting to stress me out just a little since I feel like I have so much to do over the next few days. Why do little kid parties do this to us?????

Hi Becka: That's OK--go overboard! They're babies for such a short time. Enjoy every second of it. And :bday: to Nathan. I can't believe he's 2 already!

It's hard not to go overboard with your first. You are making me feel guilty. My little guy will be 2 on Sunday and I haven't even thought about a theme, cake or presents. I guess I better get busy.

I know one time I bought so much for my 1st son's birthday that I put some of it away for Christmas.

lol sounds like our parties. We still have only one DS. And for his 2nd (last September) I had TWO parties, one in Utah and one here in Rhode Island........I definately need to learn to tame it down he is well on his way to being spoiled. This year I am just taking him to a baseball game.

Try not to stress too much, you can knock yourself out and all your son will want to do is play with the balloons....lol that is what John liked best......go figure.

I go overboard. My daughters 1st birthday had 50 people and I had Catered food big goodybags and elma and Barney there. Her second party I had all the above minus charters and this time I had Blues clues and a minature zoo thing. My sons 1st party I had Barney and the rest of everything else his 2nd party had Bob the builder but less people probably 25 to 30. son didn't have a 3rd or 4th birthday and daughter celebrated her 6 birthday at Disney. Call me crazy but I like to throw partys. I think thats my calling in life but don't know where to start.

I hate to tell you that it doesnt end. I still go over board on all the boys and my oldest will be 17 this year. I just cant help myself. I start buying one or two gifts, then usually give them early because I bought them early, then more on birthday.
