I needed this vacation. It was a long year, and I needed a break. I figured if Ivan hit, I could stay in my room and read a book, but I was going.
Let's start from the very beginning. November 2003, my daughter, Sarah 23, becomes engaged. The wedding will be May 29, 2004, in Topeka, KS, we live in Colorado. New Year's Eve Day we spent at David's Bridal picking out a beautiful dress.
January we decided to sell our house, and move into something smaller. Thus started the fix up. We put it on the market mid-February.
The end of March I went to WDW with some friends who won an award with his company, but had a 6 week old baby they needed to take. They took me, all expenses paid, to watch him when they went to meetings and events. I thought I'd have a great time. Instead, I was miserable. I was so homesick for my husband. I guess we've shared so much at the World, that being there w/o him was just too much. Okay, I'm a sap. It did, however, make me want to go back really bad. During my March trip, I did some preliminary planning for Sarah's honeymoon. We were sending them to WDW using our DVC points. Her dad told her he'd pay for the wedding, or the honeymoon, her choice. She chose the honeymoon, and got the honeymoon and a lot of the wedding (including the beautiful dress) paid for by us. Guess she made the right choice.
One week before Easter we were hit with some shocking news. Our other daughter, Kimmi 21, unmarried, tells us she's pregnant. I was devastated. I never thought I'd be dealing with this issue. I guess I had my blinders on. I was in quite a depression for many weeks.
During all this time, we are doing wedding planning. Now we have to figure out how Kimmi's bridesmaid will fit since her bustline is increasing in size, daily.
One week before Kimmi and I are to leave to help with last minute wedding plans, we get an offer on our house. They have cash and want us out by Memorial Day. Um, not happening, I'll be in Kansas at a wedding. We offered back a move out day of June 11, and then we're off to the wedding.
We spend a stressful two weeks there. Sarah is having a hard time dealing with Kimmi's pregnancy in the midst of planning. I thought they'd come to blows, but they worked it out. The wedding came of wonderfully and Sarah said it was everything she'd imagined her wedding would be. Glad it's over, really!
We get home on Memorial Day and have to move out a week from that Friday. Clean out, have a garage sale, pack up, move to an apartment. We lived in the little, unairconditioned apartment for two very long months. Finally, closing day arrives.
We move into our new, yet small, house on July 23, 2004. I didn't realize it was installed with a revolving door, but it seemed to be. We had 5 different members of our family decide to visit within three weeks of moving in. It took me forever to unpack. In addition to the company, we were remodeling. It's a new house, you say. Yes, but it was cheaper in the long run for us to upgrade our flooring ourselves instead of having the contractor do it. So, we started in the master bath with tile, then carpet in the master bedroom. The carpet was installed two days prior to leaving for WDW.
Phew, I'm exhausted reliving the last 10 months. I know many others have more stressful lives, but this we more than I could take. I finally talked Stephen into a quick September trip for sanity's sake. We purchase Annual Passes because we were already planning on going to WDW in May 2005 for our 25th anniversay. Using DVC and APs, our May trip will not cost that much, so we will be able to do other things we usually don't do.
Our trip was from 9/11/04 - 9/17/04. Everyone we talked to said not to go. Hurricane Ivan was projected to hit Florida. As I said earlier, I needed this vacation, and went anyway. Glad I did because Ivan decided to miss central Florida and unleashed in the panhandle instead (my heart goes out to those who were hit). However, our weather was wonderful, hardly any rain at all. I had a great time buying wonderful little goodies for the baby (no longer devastated, and looking forward to the birth of Ireland Kelli on or about December 17, 2004.) Have you seen the new Disney Bear? He is ever so cute, but they also have a Baby's First Disney Bear the is to die for. She got that one right away, along with a number of cute outfits, bibs, and socks. I think she'll be spoiled.
Stayed tuned for Ivan or no Ivan or Where are all the people? Day 1: Travel Day. I hope to post pics along with the report.
