I know it is early, and nobody WANTS to talk about it, but Ivan looks like he is on his way. He is a strong storm and I think that people who leave their storm shutters up are smart people!

By looking at this map, it looks like FL is a possibility, AGAIN!

http://www.weather.com/maps/news/atlstorm9/projectedpath_large.html?from=home

Enough already!!! FL has paid it's due.
Everyone, let's get together and pray on this before it even starts!::yes::

I hope your countdown clock is accurate and you have a care free Disney vacation in a few days. Ivan worries me too. I pray for the wonderful people of Florida. They don't need to get hit again. I must say I am concerned for our trip on the 19th, but I worry more about the people in Florida. I can always postpone, but I sure hope I don't have to for the sake of everybody else.::MickeyMo

We can always reschedule our vacation, but the poor Floridians don't need any more to worry about :(

Bad Ivan, bad!!! Go away :(

I'm just waiting now to see if my airline offers waivers for our travel date (this Friday). of course if it's not looking safe we won't go regardless, but if I can avoid losing the money for airfare and room deposit, I'd like to try.

Poor Florida. We're hoping, hoping, hoping this thing fizzles out or takes a track that sends it back out to sea to die.

Too much already for poor Floridians!!! :( This is insanity.

I really think that it's FAR too early to be concerned about Ivan at this point.

There are probably hundreds of hurricanes that start every year. And of those hundred, a few look like they may threaten the United States.

But with the exception of this year, how many hurricanes actually hit?

And did you know, that statistically, the Carolinas and Virginia are more likely to be hit by a hurricane than the Florida coast.

So just chill out. This is something akin to what happened after 9/11. The terrorist threat was ALWAYS there. We just became acutely aware.

The hurricane threat is always there. You're just acutely aware of it now.

Fri? We are supposed to arrive at 10:45 AM. Do they predict Ivan will hit Orlando? I always envied the FL residents, and wanted to be one. Now I feel really bad for them. I'd be upset if we couldn't go, but feel worse for the people that keep getting pummelled by these storms.

While I agree that it's not necessary to go into a panic as of yet, it is still a good idea to keep an eye on this storm. A few days ago was too early to tell...when we were still dealing with Frances. This hurricane should not be completely brushed off and ignored. Telling people to "just chill out" when they are concerned about themselves and their vacations is a bit insensitive. We can't look to history to tell us not to wory because this hurricane season has made history itself. We've never had two hurricanes cross Florida within weeks of each other and there has never been a storm that has become a hurricane as far south as Ivan did. Not to mention the Orange County Chairman has told local residents to keep their homes boarded up and supplies at the ready. No one is taking a chance with this storm. At the worst it hits us and we are prepared. At best it totally misses us.

For those of you who are concerned about your vacations, do what you feel is right for you. Disney will undersand. Disney will always be here. If you choose to visit anyway, Disney will keep you safe...that's their job.

Ivan is still far enough out, that it could go anywhere at this point. They won't even begin to make a prediction where it could make landfall for a while. There is no talk of closing any airports. It's way too early for that.

Actually Max Mayfield the head of the hurrican center said yesterday that they have never seen a storm intensify as fast as Ivan. Also Fla was hit by 3 hurricanes in 1960 I think it was. So it has happened and it can happen. We just hope it does not. Personally I am not unpacking and I am ready to evacuate again this week. I swaer if another one comes after Ivan I may just move!:D

Samirella-
i have a quick question for you since i see you live in orlando....... i am undecided as to whether or not i will cancel my upcoming 9 day trip-sched. to leave nj this friday....one of the things that has me & my husband concerned is if there will be ANY provisions left at the store....i saw things on the news that had the shelves bare in FL, and i certanly don't want to take away from others who need it more than i do... but what i was wondering is if the grocery stores have things such as milk, fruit and diapers? or are these some of the things they are saying it may take a while to stock back up... thanks for any help, and lets hope this new storm will pass FL!

I just moved here and have rode out my 2nd hurricane in less than a month. I am not looking forward to Ivan. While we got hurricane reminants in Pa (surrived Agnes in 1972, which devistated Wilkes-Barre, along with others), it was nothing like this.

There are probably hundreds of hurricanes that start every year. And of those hundred, a few look like they may threaten the United States.
The storms get numbered when they become a tropical depression, then they get named when they become a tropical storm. "I" is the 9th letter of the alphabet, ergo the 9th storm of the season. I forget how forcefull the winds need to be in order for it to be catogorized a TS, but it's probably at least 30mph.

So just chill out.
While you probably did not mean to be insensitive, you are to me. As I sit here, with water coming in next to my bed, yeah, you bet your "butt" that I am worried about Ivan. I am also wondering if my office is still standing, and if not, do i still have a job? I just moved here, so after spending a couple of grand, I hope I don't have to spend some more and move home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace & all stay safe - especialy in the path of Frances, and what ever else comes down the pike.

The folks in Florida have suffered so much already.:(

Lets hope disney doesn't get damaged this time! We've been lucky so far....*does hail mary 100 times*

There are already deliveries being made to grocery stores. Publix is very good at keeping things on the shelves. I stopped by the one near me on Friday evening and they were full with the exception of milk. I would say just keep an eye on the storm and get to the store as soon as you get here.

From what I understand it runs in a 30-40 year cycle. 30 or so years of mild tropical weather with the occasional really bad storm. Then 30 or so years of severe tropical weather. I believe we are currently entering the cycle of severe tropical weather.

I think that the "Chill out" everyone was quoting is for those of us traveling, not those of you who are dealing with this disaster. It is easy to begin worrying about our vacations and to forget about all of the people in florida who are without electricity, good water, food and even shelter.

I hope that your homes will be okay and that life will get back to normal for you. And, by all means, I hope that Ivan doesn't show up for your sake (and not mine as a traveler) because I can't imagine how much more anyone can take.

I am very hopeful but keeping a close look on Hurrance Ivan. We're headed Sat 9/11 thu Sun 9.19. We really need this vacation as our 20 month old son ahs been thu some stuff medical issues for the last 6 months. & this would ne a huge nreak from Dr's, hospitals, theraipists having MRI's EEG;st; las 's, extensive boodwrk etc. & to top if we've been cooped at home waiting for France for 3 to 4 days ! Luckly we only got some winds, rain & lots of debris but my family is really looking forward to our trip just to relax & get back to normal. We have everything booked with all our PS's made & just when we make it thru Fraces here comes Ivan ! :duck:

So my plan is e-mailing my TA for any possiblity for to re-schedule our vacation (last resort) or pray that it misses South FL & Central FL. Here is the lates links for the current positiion on Ivan. I will be regiously checking on the weather websites several times a day. Just pray for the storm to PLEASE leave poor Florida alone, everyone has gone thu enough. This trip will mean alot to those of us who want to forget the last 3 weeks of constant worry & stress. So please IVAN GO AWAY !!! : :thewave:

pandora,
I will pray that Ivan goes away, you do need a vacation. No one deserves to be sick, but to be 20 months old and have to go through that kind of stuff, he needs some fun and so do you.
I am hoping to take a long weekend from Sept 10th to the 13th before my mastectomy for breast cancer. I won't be back at the parks for at least the next 6-8 months once I start Chemo, so I was really looking forward to this trip.
IVAN< GO AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Peggie

Ivan is now a Cat 2 ( I know it could increase) my question is (please forgive me if I sound stupid)....The Dr on the weather channel said it is much smaller than Frances, I assume he meant in width, so if it does hit FL what would be impacted? I dont want to travel there (fly in 9/12) and make things more congested for Floridians who need to be on the roads but I also do not want to arrange my vacation if Orlando is not in it's path....both because FL needs the boost the economy (the news reported a loss of 41 million with the parks being closed this weekend) and I do not want to cancel my vaca if all is well....As always prayers and well wishes to all in FL.
